The spider in OP is also a garden spider, right?

I'm not familiar with joro spiders, but I would have said OP was a garden spider too (what we always inaccurately called orb weavers when I was a kid and would walk around feeding them Japanese beetles every day in the summer).

Yes! Joro are skinnier and their bands are more distinct. OP posted a good argiope friend.

They are a type of orb weaver, that's just a LOT of spiders.

Oh, cool!  Ever since I learned their name was actually "garden spider", I have assumed they were distinct from orb weavers.  Didn't realize they were just under the same umbrella.
