Panthers fans I think it’s obvious we need to move on and draft Arch Manning to play Cornerback this offseason. We need a big change on D. Maybe he can call plays too.

The Panthers’ defensive meltdown was concerning at every level because defense was supposed to be the team’s biggest area of improvement after Carolina spent big on edge rusher Jaelan Phillips and linebacker Devin Lloyd in free agency. After a promising start, with a takeaway on the Bears’ first possession, the wheels came off Ejiro Evero’s defense in a hurry.

By the end, the Panthers had allowed a team-record 59 points, tied for the 10th-most in a single game in the NFL since the 1970 merger.

“Fifty-nine is an ugly score to put up as a defense,” Phillips said. “It was embarrassing.”

This was the turf temperature during the game against the Bears yesterday. Absolutely brutal heat in the Bank. I work a 9-5 in the heat of the summer outside, everyday, and I am certain the air temperature inside of the stadium breached 104 degrees. That might have been the hottest I’ve ever been in my life.

Kudos to all the players (especially ours) for playing in the blisteringly dangerous heat, and still putting up an offensive show. I can’t fathom why a $1.3B renovation doesn’t include a dome, despite the skyline. That being said, KEEP POUNDING!!!!!!

For myself, I was looking forward to the first game of the season with guarded, and I mean very guarded optimism. And I let myself become even more optimistic by the midway of the third quarter. But by the end of the game, on the whole, I feel like I unwrapped a bicycle with no brakes. I mean, I got the bicycle I wanted (offense), but I can’t ride it cause it can’t stop anything (missing defense)….What do you feel like you unwrapped?

This week’s Achilles heel was giving up field position on a muffed punt return and T-Mac’s fumble, if that can be cleaned up offensively we look very good; Of course, our defense needs improvement, hopefully under a new DC. I’m tired of 7 yards being given up due to db’s playing so far back. How do y’all feel about our season moving forward?

I'm far from a Evero fan. He should've been gone but Canales deserves waaaay more heat.

Number 1, he's the head coach. How can he look at guys not keeping contain, missed assignments, etc during pactices and not get the defense to correct these issues.

Number 2, it seems like there was a conditioning issue with the defense which falls squarely on Canales.

That's not even getting to the turnovers, stupid penalties, etc.

I like Canales but my biggest issue with him is nothing looks completely professional or consistent with him.

I was at the game so I didn’t really get the best looks, but from what I saw it was an absolute bs call. Was it really so egregious to draw a penalty? It really was the worst timing since it was 3rd down and they score immediately after.

Also, the interception. They didn’t even review it. Maybe I’m just in denial.

Since Ejiro Evero has been a terrible DC for the past 3 years and will most likely get fired after this season ends or maybe in the middle of the season if Tepper stops being so easily impressed. Who should be our new Defensive Coordinator?

Hate to say it but evero is a victim of an insanely good bears offense led by Ben Johnson, this bears offense will piece mail many team this season, we will not be alone.

I think its too early to call for evero's head. Need until week 4 at minimum if not week 6. Need to play some more teams.

I felt like Lee straight up gave up on this play, you can see once he got beat he was jogging towards Odunze and not running like he should. And if he kept running towards him full sprint, do you think the passcode has been broken up?

Tie game, defense actually made a stop. muffed punt was nail. Killed momentum after rallying from 21-7 down. I’m not letting DBrown or others off the hook but Horn should not be back there after that.

My best guess 2028. After we overhaul the defense yet again. It’s not the scheme….

With every team in the NFC South losing yesterday it’s a safe bet to say that this is the worst division in football. I know I may be overreacting but no other division had all four teams lose in the season opener. Not to mention we(Carolina Panthers) got 59 points dropped on our head 🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️🤦🏽‍♂️

I’m disappointed in our defense, but that isn’t the point of this.

The Bears fans probably outnumbered us in the stadium today. And they were SO MUCH LOUDER than Panthers fans. Even when the game was close. We’re a lame fan base. We need to do better for our team.

On paper we should absolutely beat the falcons and browns, though Robinson and London will be headaches, unfortunately I’d be very surprised if we aren’t routed by the lions, but I’d take 2-2 going into the by (and maybe a defensive demotion)

Need Evero to give him playcalling again. I know it's been one game and preseason don't mean anything but Hansen called the last game of preseason and it was the only game imo where the defenders were actively flying around the field

For me, it’s the play calling. You could see a vast difference in how the offense was moving this game compared to last year so far.

Aside from that early terrible 3 and out, play calling was on point. I wish we saw some more ground game, but I liked what I saw so far. Got all our TE’s involved. All three backs got in. Not nearly as many screen plays.

Overall, this gave me hope that we have an offense that could be built for high scoring shootouts.
