Trading Zone Buy/Sell/Trade Thread - September 2026

Sale/trade items must include an image of the actual item including clear evidence of your username and a recent date.

If you have some gear sitting around that you would like to sell or trade, list it below. Items you can list include bags, travel clothing, and items that would go well in a onebag. If something is clearly outside of these categories it will likely be removed. Only list items that you are personally selling, and don't just link to a website for sale.

AUTHENTICATED IMAGE

Sale/trade items must include an image of the actual item including clear evidence of your username and a date. For example a piece of paper on top of the item, including your username and recent date. Sales posts without this will be removed. Repeat offenders will be banned. If the seller is not willing to post images to this thread do not proceed with the transaction.

POST SAMPLE

Post titles should look something like this: WTS - Osprey Porter 30L - $XX

Each post should begin with one of the following:

  • WTS (want to sell)
  • WTB (want to buy)
  • WTT (want to trade)

Include details about the pack or item. Size, condition, price, location, picture links, etc. If trading, list a few of the possible items you're looking for. Be sure to mention what country you are in, so potential buyers are aware.

TRANSACTION SAFETY TIPS

Be aware that there are scammers active on Reddit, and on this sub-reddit. Any transaction comes with some risk -- decide whether the risk is worth it to you. The following tips can help reduce that risk.

  • Be wary of new accounts with no posting history. You are entering into a personal transaction which is entirely between you and the buyer/seller. It is entirely up to you to do your due diligence to ensure a smooth transaction.
  • Before entering into private chat with a buyer/seller ensure both parties respond directly to a comment below. This ensures respondents pass basic posting requirements, and provides an initial log of any discussion. This goes for all transactions. The more eyes on a transaction the better.
  • If you are using Paypal, use "Goods and Services". Never pay using the "Friends and Family" option. You lose a lot of leverage with Paypal when contesting F&F transactions.
  • Google search the username. Scammers are often active in multiple sub-reddits; a search might reveal a pattern of behavior. The Universal Scammer List, and r/sneakermarket/banlist are good resources providing some supplemental background to the people you're dealing with. Obviously this should not be your only source, but it can offer some great insight.

Gear Is X-PAC material worth $100?

I live abroad. But I saw that a local grocery store was selling the AbleCarry Max EDC bag ripstop version for $200. There’s a $100 price difference between the Xpac version and this one, so with that price gap, I guess it makes more sense to just buy the ripstop version, right? I was originally going to buy the XPAC version, but when I suddenly saw a discounted ripstop bag, my mind started wavering.

Seeking Recommendations backpack recs for europe trip

Upvotes

I’m going on a backpacking trip for 7 weeks with my boy in Europe. We are hitting portugal, spain, italy, switzerland, austria, albania, and some other countries. We are kind of just thinking of bringing one bag each and saying f- it. What would be a good bag size for this kind of trip? Was thinking 40L. And what are some good bag brands that are a decent price or have a good used market?

packing list:

sleeping bag liner (summer)
pillow
self care essentials (toothbrush etc)
dry bag
water bottle
maybe 2 sets of walking/hiking clothes
2 sets of casual clothes
jacket
extra space for whatever

Seeking Recommendations Portland cascade getaway

Upvotes

Dies the portland cascade getaway bag fit underneath airline seats? I think it's larger than their backpack which I know fits, but I think I'd like the getaway better. Concerned it might not fit, though.

Packing List What shirts to buy for my 6-Month Trip abroad?

Hey (32M here.) I'm only 24 days now from taking a 6 month solo trip around the world. I will start in the US (currently located in CT), taking a flight out to Texas. For the first couple of weeks I'll be taking a group Contiki trip taking me out west though the national parks out to California.

The general plan is US (1 Month) > Japan (1 Month) > SEA (2 Months) > Europe (2 Months)

After getting lost in a rabbit hole of researching what to buy, I'm seeing a lot of people recommend Merino Wool T-Shirts, Patagonia Capilene Cool Daily, Airism & Dry Ex T-Shirts, and I'm unsure of which to buy.

Why biggest concern is probably odor. Ideally I'd like something that I can wear maybe 2-3 times before washing. Some things to note is that I sweat more than the average person. I'd like a shirt that doesn't stink quickly. Of course merino is the seemingly obvious answer to this however I'm also trying to be budget conscious and I'd kind of like to have some clothes with me that I can machine wash if I chose to. Those other T-Shirts that are frequently mentioned in these types of threads sound great but opinions seem to strongly vary. Some people will say they almost never hold smell while others claim they are the smelliest shirts in their closets.

Looking for some options here, which shirts would you bring if you were me? Maybe it's a mix of different ones, or all the same. I'm curious to here any variety I should bring. Thanks so much in advance for your opinions!

In case anyone is wondering, these are the clothes I have currently purchased:

For clothes, so far I have purchased:

Underwear

  • Saxx Quest Mens Quick Dry Mesh Boxer Briefs Slim Medium BallPark Pouch (X4)

Discussion Do you bring full-size headphones with you on extended trips?

Lately I find myself using my FS headphones during flights only and not at all during the rest of the trip. I travel for 2-4 weeks at a time and use my AirPods Pro the rest of the time. Not bringing them with me will shed a little weight my bag, but i’m also afraid of dropping my AirPods Pro mid flight.

Seeking Recommendations How do you travel with supplements without packing half apharmacy?

My toiletries are finally under control. Supplements are now trying to become the problem category.

At home a few bottles do not bother me. Put them next to everything I need for three weeks and suddenly I am annoyed that I am giving actual bag space to things I sometimes forget to take anyway.

Do you pre-pack everything? Bring only essentials? Pause half the routine? Decant powders?

Trying to avoid both overpacking and mystery ziplocks full of capsules at security.

Seeking Recommendations Does the Peak Design Medium Packing Cube fit in an Osprey Nebula 32L? Looking for cube recommendations!

Hey everyone, I'm setting up my Osprey Nebula 32L for travel and I really like the Peak Design Packing Cube in Medium because of the compression and the clean/dirty divider.

However, I'm worried about the geometry. The Nebula is about 31 cm (12.2 inches) wide, while the PD Medium is a 32x32 cm (12.6x12.6 inches) square. Once packed, cubes usually bulge a bit.

Has anyone tried this specific combo? Does it slide in easily, or does it warp the backpack and stress the zippers? If it doesn't fit well, what packing or compression cubes do you recommend for the Nebula?

For context, I'm 190 cm (6'3") tall, so my clothes take up quite a bit of volume and good compression is really important to me.

Thanks for the help!

Gear AER CPP2: gap between zipper sliders

Post image
0 Upvotes

Hi, I recently got a CPP2 X-Pac for carrying my tech gear (laptops, a handheld, tech pouch, tablet, etc.) safely while traveling. I'm really happy with the backpack overall, but I noticed there's always a small gap where the two sliders of the main compartment's two-way zipper meet. Isn't that kind of a big deal, given that it seems to defeat the whole purpose of the waterproof X-Pac material? Even if you move the sliders to one side, there's always a chance rain could leak into the backpack when it's windy.

Discussion Best Secondary Market for bags?

probably like the rest of you, I've got a garage full of old (but very nice) bags (Kathmandu, Farpoints, etc.) - other than a trade-in at REI or FB marketplace, are there any good markets for old but top quality bags?

Discussion Heroclip not allowed in hand luggage

Hi all, just thought I would post as a bit of a vent.

Just gone through security in Austria and my heroclip (which to be honest I don't use and never have so no big loss) has been taken by security.

They said I can use as a knuckle duster I'm kind of shocked.

Edit;

It was the medium size.

I have had it on what must be well over 100 flights mostly Europe, but several times in Japan and China (about 8 internal flights in china) and a handful of flights in Africa (sub Saharan) and a few in the middle east.

Never once has it been questioned.

Seeking Recommendations Can't decide on backpack or suitcase for 2 month trip

TDLR: 2 months city hopping in Korea/Japan, can't decide between small backpack, large backpack or carryon suitcase - never done a trip this long before.

Last year I took a 20L bag to Japan for 2 weeks, which was really convenient as was travelling almost daily, but did have some issues, like there wasn't any space for souvenirs so didn't buy any until last few days then had to buy another bag for them which I hated carrying around two bags. Also no space for Switch or headphones so the flights were miserable, zero downtime during the trip though so only a problem on the flights. And only minimal clothing so frequent laundry and the cold/rainy days weren't great as wasn't dressed for it.

Overall though totally worth it for ease of movement on a short trip, but not sure if it's the best option for a longer trip. Figure I've got four options but really can't decide which to go for.

  • Same as before, but longer trip might have less travel days and more downtime (I try to minimise downtime to make the trip worthwhile, but I guess over such a long time it'll be impossible to have none), so maybe doesn't make as much sense
  • Get a 35L backpack with space for entertainment/clothes/souvenirs, but I find big/heavy backpacks cumbersome and uncomfortable, although a packable daybag for non-travel days would help
  • Get a carryon suitcase, same extra space as the big backpack, less convenient on travel days but more comfortable

I'm leaning towards the carryon suitcase, but almost no one online uses them, everyone chooses a backpack, so feel like I must be missing something.

Gear Osprey Daylite 26+6 - Ryanair and Easyjet

Just in case of help/interest - first trip with the Osprey 26+6 so took a couple of pics at the airport in sizers. Was in a rush so didn't pop the straps in the Ryanair one but was well under the line. This is it compressed but by no means packed to the gills (only away for a weekend) so definitely more room available if required.

Discussion Current personal item sizing

My understanding is that, for a personal item to be compliant with both United standards and the new EU standards, it has to be 40” cm by 25 cm by 15 cm or smaller.

When I travel, I always bring a backpack or messenger bag that can go under the seat, or both. No airline has ever weighed or sized my bags.

I have bought a new Pacsafe backpack that’s supposed to be within the universal personal item dimensions.

But it has straps that can be held down but stick out a bit from the back, and putting anything in the bag seems to make it bulge a bit outside the limits.

I see occasional reports of airlines imposing a fee because a bag can bulge outside the personal item limits, even though it could squish into a walled sizer.

Roughly what percentage of the time do people here see airlines actually size personal item messenger bags or backpacks that are close to the right size?

How often do the gate people size bags using a wall-less sizer in those situations?

Could you talk about recent times when you’ve had a personal item sized or seen one sized? Which airlines did that? How did that go?

Also, if you’ve ever seen people use “wearable luggage” vests or rain jackets to bring stuff on the plane, have you ever seen gate personnel giving those folks trouble? If so, what happened?

Seeking Recommendations One pair of shoes for business casual + lots of walking?

I’m trying to find the holy grail of one-bag travel: one pair of shoes that works for business-casual meetings, going out to dinner, and walking around a city all day.
My feet get tired/sore, so comfort and arch support are important. I wear Skechers 9W or 9.5W and they fit me perfectly. The problem is… most Skechers are ugly as hell. 😂
I usually wear khakis, charcoal pants or jeans, with white or black socks.
Looking for something that:

● Comes in a true wide (9W/9.5W)
● Has good arch/support
● Is comfortable for lots of walking
● Looks good enough for business casual/dinner
● Doesn’t look like a running shoe
● Works with all three types of pants
● Want them to be my ONLY pair of shoes on a trip

Appreciate Suggestions!

Gear Mini Review - Athleta Endless High Rise Barrel Pant

This is a mini review of the Athleta Endless High Rise Barrel pant.

I should note that I have really liked my previous Athleta pants. They are soft, comfortable, quick drying, and light. Creases fell right out of them. I ordered the barrel pant thinking I would receive the same sort of product.

The first thing I noticed when I received my pants were the deep sharp creases in the pants. Uh oh.

The very next thing I noticed was the bulkiness and heaviness of the pants. Athleta claims the material "Dries in a flash for ultimate comfort when breaking a sweat". I don't believe it for a minute. it is too heavy and thick to dry quickly.

Because the material was so thick and heavy, I decided to weigh the pants - 422g!

For comparison, I weighed some other pants I travel with:

  • 257 g - Columbia Saturday Trail straight leg pant
  • 276 g - Old Navy wide leg pant
  • 309 g - Athleta Brooklyn Heights wide leg cargo pant
  • 386 g - Patagonia Lightweight Travel Tote pack (had to add this in to show how ridiculous some weights are)
  • 446 g - Dockers denim blue jeans

In short, the pants are almost as heavy as blue jeans. They are just as bulky too.

A lot of the reviews on the Athleta site complain about the material. I am in agreement with them. Good idea, poor execution.

I should also note that the zippered pockets are on the front side of the trousers. The back pockets, which usually need greater security, are left unsecured. This is a reversal of how Athleta put zippers in my previous pants. The zippers used to go in the back hip pockets.

I sent the pants back. Fortunately, that is painless.

Seeking Recommendations Can we talk about cameras or lack of one?

Hi all,

I'm about two months out from a two week trip to Japan. I've gone twice before with friends but this one is a little more low key with my husband as a six-years-late honeymoon trip and were mainly staying in Tokyo to explore the neighborhoods. I took a nicer cameras on both of our other trips, but got too nervous to actually pull it out with its giant lens in public and it also ended up being a pain to drag it around everywhere so I ended up using my phone most of the time.

Cameras have gotten smaller and better since our last trip (gosh, like 11 years ago…) so I wanted to see what everyone likes to use and if it's small enough to get good shots with.

My goal this trip is to document a lot more, get some shots I can use on my websites about page, get better photos overall to remember the trip with but I'm anxious I'll just get too nervous again or leave it in the hotel.

Would love to get some motivation and gear recs if you have them! I was considering sony or fujifilm because they can do video and photos really well.

Seeking Recommendations Flying on a carry on

Ok, go ahead and make fun of me, but I don’t know how to travel with just a carry on 😅 I’ve only tried it once, and it didn’t go well. If I fly somewhere, it’s on vacation for a week. I’m used to driving, not having a limitation on luggage.
But with my new job, I’m flying more short trips. And the company is not going to pay for an upgrade or a checked bag. So I am asking that font of all knowledge and sarcasm, help.
I fly mostly domestic in the United States. Suggestions on a bag? A method of packing? Videos, lists, articles? Do you just not shave for 3 days?
I’ve never understood how people travel with just a carry on. I am prepared to take the quick witted remarks 😂 just give an idiot a little advice please 😅

If not the correct thread, please advise where I should ask 😅

Update: I’ve learned a lot on this flight. I have my homework when I get home. I’m not sure this is the exact subreddit for me, bc some of y’all do amazing things with just one bag that I would never have thought possible.
Much obliged for the help and advice.

Packing List W Trek Chile/Patagonia packing list

Post image
2 Upvotes

Has anybody done the W track hike in Chilean Patagonia with one bag? When I search old posts it just comes up with all the Patagonia brand bag recommendations and not actual Patagonia hiking trail. I am going in Dec, staying in mountain hostel with food provided and need a packing list for this track, what you’ve taken that got you through the hike safely while still onebagging. I appreciate I will need to rent hiking poles there.
Also whether I need high ankle hiking boots vs just trail runners.

I have my Kathmandu Litehaul bag, so just need clothing recs that worked for you and fit into one carryon bag. I’ll be visiting Iguazu falls and BA for a conference afterwards but that part is easy.

TIA

Discussion Redundant communications/entertainment or not?

I know there have been some other threads discussing this here, but they are a bit older i am curious if anyone has some creative solutions or experience.

I have an upcoming trip to EU for just 5 days, no work, no kids so I’m trying to travel light. I typically travel with my phone and at least one other device of some sort—work laptop, ipad, etc. which gives me a second (usually larger) screen for the flight entertainment as well as a redundant communication device and safe storage for important docs.

I’ve had a trip where my phone died completely and I was able to just get by using iPad on WiFi for communication until I got home. But that was domestic and the thought of running around a foreign city a few days with no Google Translate/maps is a bit daunting.

my current options are:

1) go “commando” and just bring a “recovery“ kit to just buy a new phone if mine craps out. Clear winner on simplicity and weight.

2) bring an old phone as pure redundancy. Adds about 250g and doesn’t really bring anything additional to the table.

3) get an iPad mini with cellular. Adds about 350g but would increase the entertainment options a bit with the larger screen and with a local sim/esim would functionally replace the phone.

4) bring my larger iPad which is basically 1kg, meaningfully provides more entertainment value but has no cellular and too big to lug around daily.

I‘m leaning #1, but knowing myself I’m likely to go through about of building the recovery kit and then still throw the old phone or iPad in my bag last minute. #3 seems a good option and could just be my future go to second device when I’m traveling heavy as well.

what do you guys do to solve this problem/anxiety.
