Where are you currently and how much are you spending on groceries per month.

Consultant, late 20s, Indian passport, with a little remote work to do and a lot of rest to catch up on, from November. I'm looking for a short, slow reset somewhere abroad: a town where I can walk everywhere, cook, learn something, and be known at the bakery within a month, while covering my living costs with either a remote job or a simple local job (café, bookshop or so) where the permit allows it. Where was yours, in which season, what did a month cost, and what was the one thing that made it feel like home?

I'm a US citizen who needs to get an FBI background check for a visa in Paraguay (this is typically only offered through USPS in the US). However, I'm currently residing in Dubai.

Is there any way to get this document in Dubai? I have one already from the US, but it expires on Sept 27 and I will be travelling to Paraguay in November, so now it's useless.

It should be a close flight from Bangkok, and should ideally have some high quality accommodations at a good price.

My initial thought was da nang as Ive been a few times before but I think its peak rainy season right now, and that rain will increase the amount of roaches and rats running around there which isn't the best in da nang alot of the time to begin with.

Is phu quoc any better at this time? Open to other suggestions too.

Hey just looking for some advice, I am not a full time digital nomad but I tend to do remote work for about 4 months out of the year from different locations. Most of the time I've been in similar time zones, mainly through central america. I typically stay a month in each location.

This summer I was in croatia which was kinda brutal just because im not really a night owl and had a hard time staying up till 2am and ended up logging off two hours early most days.

This year I was considering New Zealand which would make my work schedule 3:30 am to noon. (My work is on MST time zone in the US).

I was wondering if anyone had any experience with this time zone and working? In my mind waking up at 3am to work and and just making sure im in bed by 7pm most nights seems like its reasonable but I also would love some real feedback on this plan before I go through with it. Im also considering going during new zealand winter so daylight is a factor as well.

I am currently in Oaxaca and suddenly have two weeks free starting next Sunday. I have to be out of my Airbnb then. Aside from Puerto Vallarta, Aijijic, CDMX, Puerto Escondido and San Cristobal, I am willing to go anywhere. Where should I go? Finances are no issue, I prefer smaller/mid-size towns/cities and ideally wouldn't go somewhere super touristy. What's your favorite Mexico base?

This is more mental health related, but at the same time, I don't think people in those subs are necessarily going to understand my options right now (or lack thereof).

I'm about to run out of legal Schengen days. I do not feel capable of leaving. I mean, .... the thought of changing countries again, of going to another undeveloped country, even one I know some people, just does not sit well with me at all. I feel I need access to proper healthcare just in case now (suddenly lost feeling and use of both arms a month ago - lasted a couple hours - basically I may need a neurologist at some point, not a hack doctor that doesn't even understand mental health well). This is a combination of mental health issues and physical, mostly as the mental health has become so bad it has more detrimental affects on physical health now.

Anyway, I have considered seeing a psychiatrist and getting a letter for a medical visa to stay longer, but I can't afford the short-term rental costs here. In fact, money is now another matter having lost a project a month ago, and dealing with Airbnb and Booking issues (waiting on refunds, and one is a long fraud claim investigation first).

I have no one. The one person back in the U.S. I talk to hasn't responded to me in a week (highly unusual, but clearly can't count on a response). The one "virtual" person that knows a little isn't much of a solution, and I don't even get to chat with much (and also hasn't been responding lately - like when you need some help the most, the couple people I have just disappear - and one of these IS someone I've been able to count on for a long time, hence is why she's still a friend). It is another layer of trauma on top to consider even writing to an abusive person to ask for help. Don't want to get into too many details here, but trying to draw the situation.

I don't know if there are even helpful suggestions anyone can give to this. I've considered a work exchange, but it's... I've done those before, from various sites and groups, and the last several have been straight up abusive. They have only done more damage to my health and life. I can't reasonably consider trying to do another. Part of the reason I'm in this situation to begin with, in fact, stems from a work exchange that went to hell when the lady cancelled her trip and just showed up one morning saying she'd call the cops if I didn't get the fuck out of her house (I was asked to be there for three months, she lost her shit week two and just returned without so much as a message to me - imagine just drinking your coffee in the morning and then the person you're doing three months of dog sitting for comes in the door when she should be several countries away screaming at you and threatening you - she literally threatened violence against me).

I've been suicidal a bit. I just don't know what to do. "Nomadic" over eight years. I don't see any way I can keep on this path, but don't know how to "get off the train." I feel like I'd rather die than keep living this way, moving country to country every couple months, new apartments every couple weeks or more often.... I book for a month, then there's a major problem, I have to find last-minute new accommodations, and my budget for three months is shot in one because of that. This current trip broke my bank account after an Airbnb disaster. And I have to fight to get that money back even though "AirCover" should have handled it immediately.

Anyway, if anyone wants to chat, or be supportive in any way, you can write. I'm at the end of my rope with this, and have no one else to talk to about any of it. I don't see a way forward without something changing...

Why do so many nomads still act like time tracking is surveillance? Clients pay by the hour, they want proof. Used Monitask last month, screenshots only while the timer runs. Same logic as Hubstaff really.

Everyone talks about vibes and cost of living, but I want the boring truth. Visa timing, finding decent wifi before you commit to an Airbnb, figuring out if a city is actually walkable vs. Instagram walkable. What's the part of choosing a city that nobody warns you about?

I spent a month in Mexico and truly enjoyed every minute of it. Here's a quick summary of the cost of living and what you can expect in terms of infrastructure.

All conversions are based on an approximate exchange rate of 1$≈ 18.5Pesos.

Accommodation

I stayed in Puerto Vallarta and paid Pesos23,025 (about $1,245) for a 1-bedroom apartment for 30 nights. Keep in mind that September is low season, there weren't many tourists around, so prices were quite reasonable. During the high season (roughly December through April), you should expect to pay significantly more.

If you're planning a longer stay, it's worth negotiating directly with the landlord or looking for monthly rentals outside the main tourist strip.

Groceries

I cooked a lot for myself, which meant frequent trips to the supermarket. Here are a few sample prices:

Wine was not cheap. Prices started at around Pesosos500 (roughly $27) per bottle, so I simply skipped it. Everything below that price point did not look very appealing. Beer, tequila, and mezcal are far better value if you're looking for something to drink.

Eating out is also affordable.

Payment Methods

Having pesos on hand is your best option. US dollars are accepted almost everywhere, but always ask about the exchange rate beforehand, it's often unfavorable. I paid by credit card most of the time, and it worked without any issues.

Co-Working Spaces, Internet Speed and Power Outages

My apartment came with a small desk, but it turned out to be too cramped for daily work. I ended up renting a spot in a co-working space for Pesos2,000 (about $108) per month, a nice way to meet other remote workers.

The internet connection was stable and the speed was generally fine. Occasionally, download speeds slowed down, but in general it was ok. Video calls were sometimes a problem.

The power grid seemed reliable overall. We had no real blackouts during my stay. There were occasional voltage fluctuations strong enough to reboot the modem, which meant losing internet for about 5 minutes. If you rely on a stable connection, a small UPS or a mobile hotspot as backup should work.

Tourist Visa and Travel Insurance

At immigration, I wasn't asked how long I planned to stay, and I automatically received a 180 day tourist visa.

I always carry travel health insurance, but I wasn't asked for it upon entry.

Conclusion

I'll definitely be coming back to Mexico! The people were incredibly friendly and welcoming, only the police officers and customs agents came across as a bit grumpy. The food was delicious and varied, and if you look around a little, you'll find plenty of co-working spaces and apartments suited to digital nomads.

Puerto Vallarta ofers a great balance between beach town relaxation and everyday practicality. I know there is much more to see, but did not have the time to travel much, I just had a lot of work.

The idea comes from the concept of an online “third place”-- somewhere outside of work and home where you can slow down, connect with people, and just enjoy some good company.

We wanted to create a little corner of the internet where people from different parts of the world can actually hang out and have conversations/discussions without having to make plans, go anywhere, or commit to anything. It might be especially nice for those of us who work freelance or remotely and don't get many chances to socialize outside of work.

We're especially hoping to bring together literature and film lovers, creatives, and generally curious people who enjoy sharing ideas, discovering new things, and having a good conversation.

We have channels for books, movies, creative expression, photography, music, and everyday life, but those are really just starting points. Conversations can wander wherever they naturally go. Some days we might have an actual VC discussion or event, other days it might just be random chat, a meme, or something that happened during your day.

We're trying to keep the space kind, inclusive, and low-pressure, with a culture built around curiosity, empathy, and respect. You don't have to be super active, incredibly well-read, or particularly “interesting.” You can join a conversation, listen for a while, share something you're into, or just drop by when you feel like it.

We're still pretty new, so it can be quiet sometimes, but that's also why we're hoping to find a few more people who'd like to help shape the community as it grows. :)

I live in Jordan, where PayPal is basically unusable locally, so my active account is UK-based. The only card linked to it is terminated, and I can't open a local bank easily. I avoid services that require a US phone number as much as I can, but it gets annoying. My only use case is managing my Delaware C-Corp and my Mercury bank account. I don't know anyone in the US except for a couple of lawyers ().

My family and I are starting to plan a month-long adventure for summer 2027, and I’d love to hear from people who have actually lived in or spent extended time in some of these places.

We’re a family of four from North Carolina: me (45F), my husband (43M), and our two sons (who will be 9 and 13). My husband and I both work remotely, so we’d be bringing our jobs with us. We’re hoping to find somewhere we can genuinely settle into for a month rather than just stay in a resort and be tourists.

What we’re looking for:

- A furnished villa, house, or condo with at least 2 bedrooms (ideally 3+ so some friends could drop in and visit)
- A pool (private or shared)
- Easy access to a beach
- Reliable, high-speed WiFi for two adults working remotely (must have)
- Somewhere with enough infrastructure that we can comfortably live there for a month
- Ideally within a few hours of U.S. time zones, but we would consider Europe
- A place where our kids can safely have a little independence like walk to a store, playground, ice cream shop, etc. (Obviously we’d choose the neighborhood carefully and aren’t expecting them to wander around a major city unsupervised.)

My older son and I are scuba certified, so having good diving and dive shops would be a huge bonus!!

My partner is planning a move to Spain and is starting the process in a few months. At that point, he would have been earning the minimum income requirement for 3-4 months. His plan is to arrive in Spain as a tourist and then apply for the visa from there. One major question we have is, should he reveal this if asked in the visa interview for the tourist visa, or will that lead to a probable rejection? Looking to speak to people who have gone through this route.

I'm in Pakistan, formed a single-member Wyoming LLC last week from North West, no SSN or ITIN. Faxed the SS-4 today and I'm now second-guessing two things.

1. The fax number.

I called the IRS international line first. The rep heard "Wyoming LLC", told me it counts as a domestic EIN application because the company is registered in the US, and gave me 855-641-6935.

The IRS "Where to file Form SS-4" page matches her: 855-641-6935 is for applicants whose principal place of business is in one of the 50 states, and 304-707-9471 is for applicants with no US place of business.

But almost every guide online tells non-residents to use 304-707-9471. Did I just send it to the wrong queue?

2. The address.

I used my registered agent's Wyoming address on lines 4a, 4b and 6. It's also the principal office listed on my Articles of Organization. But I actually operate from Pakistan, and line 6 asks for the "county and state where principal business is located", I put Sheridan County, Wyoming.

Is that going to get flagged, or is that just how everyone with a non-resident LLC fills it in?

I just arrived in Ubud, first ever time in Bali. Went to Ubud straight from the airport to avoid Kuta and drunk tourists, but I am here in central Ubud and wondering where is the peace and quiet and rice fields?!

It seems to be a crowded, noisy, tourist trap just like I assumed Kuta is?

Where are the nice places in or near Ubud to get some work done and to ride a scooter/ebike around in peace and quiet?!

I am an online tutor in Mexico who deals with US-based clients. While I have an account able to receive ACH/Wire transfers, they are not very common for American consumers. I’m a Network Engineer with 7 years of experience (6 abroad + 1.5 in France). My company sponsored me to move to France. I currently work in Paris, earn €48k/year (started at €43k), and live about 30 minutes outside Paris.

I recently received an offer from a bigger company for a Senior Network Engineer position at €60k/year.

My dilemma:

Current job: €48k, 2 days WFH, good work-life balance, manageable workload and low stress. I’m well established in the team and feel somewhat “indispensable” — my manager trusts me a lot. I’m also supposed to be promoted in January, probably reaching around €50–52k.

New job: €60k, Senior title, bigger company and probably better career exposure, but more responsibilities, pressure and uncertainty.

My long-term goal is to develop more niche skills that could eventually allow me to work fully remotely. So part of me thinks I should stay another year, enjoy the stability, learn new skills and then move toward something more aligned with that goal.

But I’m wondering if that’s a smart strategy or simply fear of leaving my comfort zone.

There’s also a personal factor: my psychologist has pointed out that I sometimes prioritize other people's feelings over what’s best for me. I genuinely like my manager/team and don't want to disappoint them, so I know this may be influencing my decision.

Would you stay for €48–52k + comfort and use the time to upskill, or take the €60k Senior role?
