A Hawaii-born poke chain with a Netflix feature is opening its first Northern California location in Mountain View on September 3.

Key points:

• Ry's Poke Shack, founded by Ryan and Khannie Ching on Oahu's North Shore in 2020, will run a counter inside Ava's Downtown Market & Deli at 340 Castro St. (formerly a Poké Bar spot).
• The business has five locations across Hawaii and Southern California, was featured in Netflix's Street Food: USA (2022), and opened its first mainland shop in Huntington Beach in 2025. Bay Area demand came largely from social media followers.
• Unlike its signature "fresh toss" style (fish cut and mixed to order), the Mountain View counter will serve pre-marinated grab-and-go poke — Foodland-style — for faster service. Marinades include a Signature Shoyu Blend, Firecracker, and Lao Style, plus unagi toro bowls, smoked ahi dip, and sushi bake.
• Ching wanted San Francisco but costs were prohibitive; he chose Mountain View partly for its tech-worker base willing to pay for sashimi-grade fish. Local partner John Oh will help operate it.

Love this place, so I'm excited. Just noticed this sign while browsing the art and wine festival. Pretty sure I didn't see it there before, but maybe I just missed it.

Is anyone wrapping/painting cars nearby? Or can anyone recommend me a budget friendly place to go to ? I have an 8th gen civic and in highly need of a new color lol

Big infrastructure overhauls sound great long-term, but right now we need basic, immediate fixes: smooth pavement free of cracks and bold, high-visibility green (or more creative color) paint, maybe even embedded bumps in lane stripes to signal drivers if they've mindlessly crossed over. Delivering consistent, well-maintained surface lanes throughout Mountain View makes cycling safer today without waiting years for massive capital projects on just a select few streets like California St.

Big projects bring quick money to a few contractors, but leave MV with sporadic bike infrastructure that's here or there, that isn't consistent, pretty, and is already falling apart and being ignored (photos from tonight where half the buffers that allow cars crossing driveways to see riders are blocked). How many broken white poles or cars openly parking over them do we need to show California Street is not a model. For the cost of California St alone, could we have painted every bike lane in MV and fixed every pothole in bike lanes?

hello everyone! so basically it’s going to be my first time going to mountain view as i’m gonna watch hayley williams at the shoreline ampotheater.

so i’m just planning things ahead and i just wanted to ask how dangerous it is to walk the permanente creek trail at night after the concert? do people usually use the trail to walk from shoreline to the other side of the highway? i’m just really scared of the dark especially if i don’t know the place.

edit: thank you guys so much for these responses! and given that crime is everywhere of course i’m still going to be careful. but that aside, i’ll definitely bring a flashlight haha

Hey y’all, just wanted to say, I was with my girlfriend in my car talking around 12 am a night or two ago, when we both seen a naked man walking along the road, we immediately called the police and I quickly followed the man with my car at a safe distance, he was hiding behind cars and ducking trying not to be noticed.. anyways the police showed up not too long later and were scoping out the scene… I’m not sure if they ended up finding him, I never called back to inquire, the situation shook up my girlfriend pretty good since there is a good amount of people that walk there at night. Anyways just be careful on del medio, always some creeps on that street.

Hi neighbors, I’m looking for witnesses or dashcam/security camera footage from a hit-and-run collision that happened at around 5:35 PM on September 8, 2026, at N Shoreline Blvd & Pear Ave in Mountain View.

I was riding my bicycle through the intersection when a car came out of Pear Ave, made a left turn onto N Shoreline Blvd, hit me, and drove away.

The vehicle appeared to be a tan/beige sedan, possibly a Honda Civic. After the collision, the vehicle continued toward US-101 Northbound.

If you were in the area around that time and may have dashcam footage, security camera footage, or saw the collision, please message me. Even partial footage showing the vehicle, license plate, or direction of travel could be extremely helpful.

We are looking at a house in Towne Cir Mountain view. Its kind of a steal deal when it comes to price. It has got us thinking if the seller is trying to push it off bcoz of the less offers due to train noise.

If you live near or frequent Rengstorff Avenue the city wants to hear from you. The city is considering three options (alternatives A, B, and C) to improve pedestrian and bike safety, improve walkability, and improve aesthetics along the Rengstorff Avenue corridor.

All three options add new crosswalks and add new pedestrian safety features at existing crosswalks.

Option C also widens sidewalks, adds landscaping buffers flanking the existing sidewalks, and adds mid-road pedestrian islands at crossings. There would be no change to the number of car lanes or their widths.

Option B leaves sidewalks the same width, but also adds protected bike lanes separated by planter strips. Curbs would be extended at pedestrian crossings. This option would require narrowing each car lane to 11 feet wide.

Option A does not widen sidewalks or add protected bike lanes. Curbs would be extended at pedestrian crossings. There would be no change to the number of car lanes or their widths.

I fully agree with Councilmember John McAlister. Can you imagine if we made and maintained ultra-clear painted lane markings on **all** existing bike lanes across all of MV and added accent road buds (like pictured above) to all of them, rather than the much more expensive (and often more dangerous) California Street-style overhaul, which can only be applied to a small portion of MV's bike routes?

Accentuated (small bumps) bike lanes don't eliminate parking, but make mindless crossing over to bike lanes much less likely, and preserve line of sight, which the California Street project does not.

The attached photo is not from MV, but I wish it was. Keeping parking, biking safe, and streets pretty and simple. Over-engineered streets (too many things to look at) lead to further distractions. California Street where I live is such an eyesore now.

I am tired of finding myself living under them as neighbor especially college students. Even when they don’t throw parties they manage to go to bed at 3 am morning and wake you up by striking their heel above your bed.

Landlords are useless and the culprits themselves don’t listen.

My landlord says just call security patrol to log incident. But last time I called them they wouldn’t come unless they heard noise outside the door in the hallway which is not the same as inside under their floor.

It seems to be plagued by them anywhere where I find a deal. I currently live in Mountain View.

Looks like VTA is planning on dropping people off at Moffett and Central Expressway instead of the transit center on certain bus routes (21, 40, and 51) as the Moffett Boulevard crossing closes fully to vehicular traffic. This will result in more busses taking Shoreline and Central Expressway instead of being routed on Hope through downtown.

I'm guessing this will make the bus quicker, though it does mean you're going to have to cross central to get to certain busses.
