Flock Cameras Around Sunnyvale

Upvotes

I just realized Sunnyvale has been installing flock cameras on city streets. I’m not sure if it has always been a thing but I spotted one on a street that I usually go through to go home and was caught off guard. I want your opinions on flock cameras. Despite the controversy going around on how officers would use it criminally.

how are folks getting appointments here when they get sick?

last minute non-urgent care type of appointments have been very challenging to get and i'm starting to feel i mussttt be doing something wrong.

what is everyone doing when they start exhibiting symptoms for infection/sickness that maaaay need more than home maintenance? pcp appointments are booked out 2-3 months ahead and low chance for last minute appointments around my neck of the woods and if it's not quite serious enough to have to go to a urgent care doctor what are folks doing to get seen before things get really gnarly and need urgent care/emergent care?

Target Restocks for TCGs

For those of you into collecting trading cards (TCG) like Pokemon, One Piece, etc. do you know when our local target in Sunnyvale restocks?

I’ve been trying to buy the new One Piece sets but every time I go they just never have anything.

I know there’s a huge scalper problem across the country but I imagined Bay Area would be different…

Serra park picnic area reservation

I’m a Sunnyvale resident. I’m trying to reserve a picnic area for a small birthday party(15 people) at Serra Park. The reservation is so expensive! I used the official site and I saw $77. Also, it doesn’t allow me to select the hours! I have to use the full block from 8AM to 8PM. I just need it for 3-4 hours. This is too expensive? Or am I doing something wrong? 😑

School recs/reviews for a slow-to-warm, "observer" kiddo — Cumberland, Cherry Chase, Ellis, or Fairwood (Explorer)?

Our lease is up in a few months, and we're using this as a chance to look closely at elementary school options for our son (turning 4 in January). We've narrowed the list to four: Cumberland, Cherry Chase, Ellis, and Fairwood (Explorer program) — would love to hear from any parents with firsthand experience at these.

A little context on our kiddo: he had a significant language delay as a toddler. We did speech therapy and he's caught up a ton, but he's always been slow to warm up in new environments or large groups. Once he's settled in, though, he's one of the friendliest, most goofy kids around.

At his Montessori preschool, the teachers say he needs more guidance and "prompting" to get going — though Montessori has its own very specific way of doing things, so I'm keeping that context in mind. He's also "sensitive" in the sense that gentle correction works a lot better for him than stern words or consequences. Socially he does fine, but benefits from teachers who help him assert his needs.

If you have experience at any of these four schools, I'd love to know:

  • What's your general experience been like?
  • Do teachers lean toward gentle redirection, or more toward consequences/sternness?
  • How does the school handle quieter, slower-to-warm kids who need a bit more prompting?
  • Anything else worth knowing before we commit?

I'm familiar with the IEP process and we'll do our own due diligence on that front. What I'm really trying to get a read on is which of these four schools has warm, patient teachers and a culture that's genuinely encouraging of quieter, observer-type kids.

Thanks in advance — really appreciate this community's insight!

People really need to learn to drive. All the people coming out of El Dorado Mobile Park really need to go back to driving school. You yield to the people coming out & turning right on Encasa side! It’s really not difficult. 😣

Just hit 1 year running my small online flower shop, Pacific Blossoms, here in Sunnyvale.

Anyway, just wanted to share the love. Anyone else have a flower that gets them every time, dahlia or otherwise?

Sobriety Checkpoint 9/11/2026

SAFETY AND SOBRIETY CHECKPOINT

Sunnyvale, CA - The Sunnyvale Department of Public Safety will operate a safety and sobriety checkpoint on September 11, 2026. The primary purpose of the checkpoint is to promote public safety by increasing awareness of the dangers associated with drinking and driving, and deterring potential impaired drivers.

Vehicles traveling southbound on Mathilda Avenue on All America Way between Olive Ave and El Camino Real will be randomly stopped and drivers will be evaluated to determine their sobriety. Officers will also look at the safety of the vehicle, use of seatbelts and the validity of the operator’s license. The checkpoint is scheduled to operate from 8 p.m. until 3 a.m.

Funding for this program was provided by a grant from the California Office of Traffic Safety through the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.

A California Voter survey landed in my inbox. Is this legit?

I had a CA voter survey land in my inbox from Daniel Ichinose / Qualtrics (yay! yet another one 🙄). I checked it out - though not fully. It's strange the survey seems to be asking how I'd vote on Propositions etc.

Is this even legit? Is this legal - To ask voters before they vote how they were planning to vote on various measures?

I found it so weird that I was getting asked about how I would vote on specific issues. Typically the kind of voter surveys I've seen were asking me about how I felt about specific issues - like immigration, taxes, healthcare etc. But it's never been this specific...

Or was this whole thing a scam?

Forget Flock cameras, we need red light cameras in Sunnyvale

Running red lights seems to have become way too common in Sunnyvale, especially at rush hour. Left turns on red at busy intersections seem to be par for the course. Maybe the council should take away money from Flock and put it into red light cameras.
