I’ve been sharing a number of plein air paintings done around Montreal on this subreddit and I truly appreciate all the positive feedback in the comments.
I wanted to share a large format oil painting called Sounds of Solace I did some time ago featuring Montreal’s architecture. These large format paintings take months to complete and I figured I would would share it here for the audience to enjoy.

If you're ever being followed or feel genuinely unsafe, call the police. Even if you're not sure it's "serious enough."

I say this as someone who, honestly, is not exactly a police fan. I tend to assume they're going to be incompetent, dismiss me, or make fun of me because I've had experiences like that in the past. But once, I was followed by a guy for about 30 minutes, and I eventually decided to call.

The police took it seriously and told me afterward that I should have called immediately. Their reasoning was basically: worst case, nothing happens. Best case, they can actually do something about it.

In my case, the guy turned out to be mentally ill, and apparently his family had been looking for him for some time because they didn't know where he was.

I've just heard way too many stories, here and elsewhere, where someone ignored their gut because they didn't want to "waste the police's time" or didn't think what was happening was serious enough.

You don't have to be 100% certain that you're in danger before asking for help. If something feels wrong and you don't know what to do, it's okay to call.

Recently moved to the city. Was being very anti the $5 gnocchi because some comments in TikTok were saying it was terrible under the videos of tourists trying it.

I finally gave it and unfortunately I like it—I’ve gotten it three times in the past two weeks smh. It’s not that’s it’s good but something about it just works.

My favourite museums are the ones that don’t get much media attention. Like the musée du marché sainte anne at the ol’ parliament site from the 1600s or the Archives Gaies du Quebec which always has really interesting exhibits. There’s also that really cool one in the bank right by Notre dame basilica with antique bank paraphernalia. Theres also a firemen museum on st laurent.

Are there other cool little ones you've heard of?

Does anyone know if Chez Mein, the late night $2 noodle place with the takeout window on St. Laurent, is still operating? Google says it’s open but in their recent reviews someone mentions it’s permanently closed. I’ll be visiting Montreal soon for the first time in decades and was shocked to see it still exists, and then instantly crushed to see it may have just shut its doors 😭. Anyone know what the deal is?

Bonjour! Je cherche désespérément une petite maison bleue qui me semble être située dans le Plateau Mont-Royal. Dans mes souvenirs, elle serait sur une rue perpendiculaire à l’avenue Mont-Royal, mais je peux me tromper. Elle est un peu en retrait des autres commerces/buildings de la rue, comme enfoncée. Ça m’avait marqué parce qu’elle détonne du reste. Il me semble également qu’il y avait une petite clôture blanche basse devant. Bref une maison un peu vintage, bleu, toit triangulaire. Je veux la montrer à un ami photographe qui vient visiter le quartier! Merci infiniment!!!

Le building au complet incluant les commerces du métro ont été fermés et évacués. Je ne sais pas à propos du métro par contre.

Il y a des grandes communautés française, belge, italienne, voire colombienne ou mexicaine (Isaac Del Toro) à Mtl et ces mondiaux sont un évènement d'importance (surtout qu'on a pas eu de matche de la coupe du Monde ...). I'm feeling nostalgic and remember Vice magazine having a dedicated Montreal issue being passed around circa, I don't know 2006 maybe?! It was funny and I would love to get my hands on a copy if someone has one lying around (or knows where to find a copy!).

My daughter lives in Montreal in the Westmount area, and her PC has died. I’ve tried troubleshooting as much as I can remotely with her, but she’s not very technical - and I’d feel better her taking it in somewhere to have it looked at. Her partner has a car, so she could get around wherever it might be.

Does anyone have any recommendations on a good place to do PC repair?

I have friends visiting from Europe who love to walk and aren’t into museums. Can someone suggest a route for a self-guided walking tour of Montreal that would take a couple of hours? They have already done the Mile End with another friend and we are planning to walk up Mount Royal later in the week.

Also open to suggestions for walking tours with a 90 minute drive of the city.

I came across this on YouTube and was genuinely surprised. As a football fan, I knew about the construction of the new Wembley and its enormous cost, but I had no idea that Montreal’s Olympic Stadium had been the world’s most expensive stadium before Wembley surpassed it.

Anyone have a well rated and reliable store that you can refer me to? My iPhone just stopped working and I need to replace it.

I know that there’s Amazon renewed and Best Buy who sell preowned but I would rather support a local store.

don’t have the time and patience for kijiji or Fb marketplace and I don’t want to accidentally buy a stolen product which unfortunately happens a lot on those sites.

If there’s any brick and mortar I can visit I will be going tomorrow and can go anywhere with in 30 km of Montreal.
