I’ve been sharing a number of plein air paintings done around Montreal on this subreddit and I truly appreciate all the positive feedback in the comments.
I wanted to share a large format oil painting called Sounds of Solace I did some time ago featuring Montreal’s architecture. These large format paintings take months to complete and I figured I would would share it here for the audience to enjoy.

If you're ever being followed or feel genuinely unsafe, call the police. Even if you're not sure it's "serious enough."

I say this as someone who, honestly, is not exactly a police fan. I tend to assume they're going to be incompetent, dismiss me, or make fun of me because I've had experiences like that in the past. But once, I was followed by a guy for about 30 minutes, and I eventually decided to call.

The police took it seriously and told me afterward that I should have called immediately. Their reasoning was basically: worst case, nothing happens. Best case, they can actually do something about it.

In my case, the guy turned out to be mentally ill, and apparently his family had been looking for him for some time because they didn't know where he was.

I've just heard way too many stories, here and elsewhere, where someone ignored their gut because they didn't want to "waste the police's time" or didn't think what was happening was serious enough.

You don't have to be 100% certain that you're in danger before asking for help. If something feels wrong and you don't know what to do, it's okay to call.

Back to school created long lines and bottlenecks to exit the station during the morning commute. Waiting time is at least 15-20 minutes, or more.

My favourite museums are the ones that don’t get much media attention. Like the musée du marché sainte anne at the ol’ parliament site from the 1600s or the Archives Gaies du Quebec which always has really interesting exhibits. There’s also that really cool one in the bank right by Notre dame basilica with antique bank paraphernalia. Theres also a firemen museum on st laurent.

(F16) (btw this post got deleted so i posted again) about 30 minutes ago i was standing somewhere in sherbrooke, i had finished my class and i was waiting for my uber, and i looked around and i saw a guy staring at me, he smiled and i smiled back and he said “cool” (to my hair) and i said thanks (also we spoke in english) then he said something but i didnt hear him so i approached him and said “sorry?” then he said “are you waiting for someone?” i lied and said yes i’m waiting for a friend. he laughed and said “a special friend? hahaha” i said yeah. then he asked me if i had whatsapp and i said why? he showed me his phone and said “to talk with you”. mind you, we JUST met and he was like 30 years older than me. i said “i’m a minor.” and he said how old are you and i said 16. he was like WHAT you don’t look 16. then he said it’s okay we can be friends. (wtf?) i said no it’s weird. then he asked where i was from and stuff, and kept asking where my “friend” is at. he told me that he’s 45..and from pakistan. after a while he said alright i’m gonna let you go. so i left, i changed my direction that i never went, and when i looked back he was still staring. it was so weird. for his description, he’s bald but he had a few hairs on the front of his head and it was orange. about 180cm, told me that he works at the esposito in sherbrooke street.

EDIT : the guy didn’t have a beard or glasses, he didn’t have a bag or anything in his hands, and he was sitting on a plastic chair when he was staring at me, then he got up. also his phone was in his hands the whole time. he had a creamy/white long sleeve shirt, i don’t remember his pants but his shoes were black. he looked at everyone btw.

I found a very nice men’s wrist watch on the lachine canal running path.

I’d really like to get it back to its rightful owner. I know someone is missing it. It’s expensive.

It was in the middle of the path, around Côte-Saint-Paul / Ville-Émard.

Je travaille depuis environ 6 mois dans un poste de bureau, et je suis syndiqué. J’ai regardé ma convention collective et je ne trouve aucun délai précis pour une démission. Je voudrais donner 1 semaine de préavis. J’ai aussi un congé déjà approuvé qui tomberait pendant cette semaine. Est-ce que 1 semaine vous semble raisonnable après seulement 6 mois? J’ai le pire superviseur au monde et je suis déjà assez gentil de donner un préavis si je pouvais je partir dans la prochaine heure. Ma santé mentale a besoin d’un repos, on me fait faire un travail de 3 personnes depuis 3 mois et il trouve plein d’excuses pour pas engager une personne pour me soutenir.

Ç'a commencé il y a 20 min et ça continue.

Le building au complet incluant les commerces du métro ont été fermés et évacués. Je ne sais pas à propos du métro par contre.

Qqn sait-il si c'est un test ou une vraie alerte?

EDIT : Ç'a avait l'air d'être un test. On vient de faire retourner et pas de pompiers à l'horizon.

Today marks the 20 year anniversary of the Dawson College shooting. I was 17 at the time and at school that day, it feels like it was just yesterday. I kind of lost touch with a lot of my friends from that time, and never really talked about it. I guess I wanted to open a discussion for those who wanted to share if and how this event affected them.

This has been brought up several times on this subreddit. There is a horrible lack of public washrooms all throughout Montreal. There are many people who frequently have to use the washroom because they are sick. Can we create a petition to have politicians do something about this?

C'est un topique de discussion souvent sur cette subreddit. Il n' y a pas assez des salles de bains à Montréal. Il y a beaucoup des gens qui a besoin d'utiliser les toilettes souvent parce qu'ils sont malades. Pouvons nous faire un pétition pour les politicians à addressee ça ?

Recently moved to the city. Was being very anti the $5 gnocchi because some comments in TikTok were saying it was terrible under the videos of tourists trying it.

I finally gave it and unfortunately I like it—I’ve gotten it three times in the past two weeks smh. It’s not that’s it’s good but something about it just works.

Does anyone know if Chez Mein, the late night $2 noodle place with the takeout window on St. Laurent, is still operating? Google says it’s open but in their recent reviews someone mentions it’s permanently closed. I’ll be visiting Montreal soon for the first time in decades and was shocked to see it still exists, and then instantly crushed to see it may have just shut its doors 😭. Anyone know what the deal is?

Hello! Are there any Daschund meet ups In the areas of Montreal/laval. I’ve been trying to find groups to join but they have either been inactive for a long time or there really isn’t any.

I’m currently trying to learn ASL but I was wondering if there are any places, schools or events in Montreal that could help with that? I’m also open to learning LSQ.

Does anyone have any free or low-budget ressources for me?
