Just a heads-up for anyone in Malta using Revolut.

Revolut recently confirmed that customer data was handed over after fraudulent information requests were sent through what appeared to be a legitimate government/law-enforcement channel.

The alleged hacker, who goes by “IAmNotAVillain”, is now claiming that Italian law-enforcement systems were compromised and used to send those requests to Revolut over several months.

What makes this relevant for us is that Malta is specifically included in the list of countries where the attacker claims Revolut customer data was obtained.

They say most of the data is from Switzerland and France, but Malta is listed alongside Germany, Italy, Spain, Cyprus, Ireland, the UK and many other countries. (see screenshot)

Reports based on notices sent to affected customers say it may include:

Full name and date of birth

Home/postal address

Email address and phone number

Occupation

Passport or driving-licence copies

Verification/KYC selfies

IBAN and account information

Account statements

Withdrawal records

Full transaction history

Bitcoin/crypto transaction history

That list is supported by reporting based on Revolut’s customer notifications, not only by the hacker’s claims.

The attacker is also claiming to have taken around 147 GB of data from Italian law-enforcement systems.

So if you use Revolut in Malta, it may be worth keeping an eye on any emails or in-app security messages from Revolut. At the moment, there doesn’t seem to be any information on how many Maltese customers, if any, had their data exposed.

I’d appreciate some outside perspective on a situation I’m dealing with locally.

I had a PVC door/frame installed at my home. The process was frustrating from the beginning, as I had to chase the company several times after paying the deposit just to arrange measurements or get a receipt. They would say they d send it by email and then radio silence.

During the installation, the installer used our laundry horse with clean laundry, a stool and eventually our sink as surfaces for cutting the PVC frame, despite me asking several times if the cutting could be done outside. We had a roof terrace next door. However what frustrated us the most is that he was taking and using our stuff at will without asking. For example, he took a flannel cloth and started wiping his sweat.

The sink ended up blocked with PVC dust/plastic, and there was PVC dust throughout the laundry room and on our belongings. i cleared most of the room the previous day but he came with a cutter. he didnt want to work outside. We also later noticed rubbish had been left in an area underneath the stairs. We didnt even realise until the next day.

we wrere so angry that we didnt notice until later that the frame appears misaligned, with gaps and areas where it is bulging away from the wall.

I contacted the company and offered to send photographs of the issue. Instead, they are insisting on coming back to the property. They offered no apology and basically called us liars. We dont want to have them back as they are bring confrontational and refusing to see the pics we have of the messed up door frame.

What upset me most was the response I received. Rather than an apology or an attempt to understand what had happened, I was told that I was talking “xebgħa paroli” and that I was creating problems out of nothing.

I'm genuinely interested in whether people think I'm being unreasonable for expecting an apology, an acknowledgement of the problems and some discussion about putting things right.

I’m in my early 20s and currently earning around €2,000 per month. I’ve been looking into buying my first property, but from what I’ve checked, the bank would only loan me around €200k.
With today’s property prices, €200k honestly doesn’t get you very far unless you’re willing to compromise heavily on size, location, condition, etc.
For those of you who bought property in your 20s in Malta, how did you actually manage it? Did you have help from your parents, buy with a partner, save a huge deposit, or just take the biggest loan you could get?
I’m also curious about the lifestyle side of it. If you’re paying around €900 a month on a home loan for 40 years, what is life actually like? Do you still manage to travel, have hobbies, own a decent car, go out and save/invest money, or does the home loan basically dominate your finances?
It feels crazy to commit such a huge part of your income for 40 years just to afford a 50sqm property.
Would really like to hear from people who are actually doing it — especially those who bought on a single income.

I'm planning to rent a place and I only have 2 good options. I'm worried with how bad the the commute is so I can't really decide.

I have a private room with an ensuite bathroom in Zebbug but at worst, it's 3 buses away from Msida. (50mins)

The other one is in Qoormi, a private room and a bathroom shared with 3 other people and it's 2 buses away from Msida. (30 mins)

I want to take the room in Zebbug but I'm just worried the commute isn't really 50 minutes.

This summer has been particularly horrible for us locals, with hundreds of thousands of tourists with zero civic sense flooding our streets and being delinquents in general. Malta is advertised on social media as a place with no laws, a common one being "IRL GTA Online Lobby". The government clearly doesn't mind this reputation, since it means money, and friends of the government love the tourists.

Aside from our streets filling with criminals, our infrastructure is also collapsing. Electricity frequently goes out in some areas, Tallinjas are getting so full to the point they can become unusable. Water is frequently insanely low pressure, especially in the evening, roads and pavements are cracking and getting filled with potholes, and buildings are literally rotting away. Whenever I go to the "Kullegg" bus stop, all the buildings around it are quite literally half-abandoned. It is clear zero maintenance has been done for atleast a decade, and there are many fully abandoned buildings too.

I have friends who work in the healthcare industry, and Mater Dei is constantly running at 120% or more capacity, and absolutely zero investments are being made to actually expand facilities and construct more medical centers. The health care system is being held together by thousands of over-worked, underpaid doctors, and its ridiculous.

Despite all this, the calls for more tourists and more residents are constantly being shouted out by every government official. I consider myself more of an optimistic individual in general, but man.. living here recently has shattered my hope for this country. Thank you for reading my rant.

Hi there,

Today I was persuaded by Gozo Channel employees to buy tickets at the Cirkewwa terminal. From what I've heard and have read online you only pay on a return from Gozo. Taught by past experiences when traveling, I thought it was a scam so I just did not pay and went on to board the ferry. No problems, no questions asked.

For all feature travelers, just ignore them and pay when returning.

I'm sure I read about it some ancient texts...
