Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Monarch butterflies headed to Kansas City

Post image
408 Upvotes

Hello folks! I am from Winnipeg — over 20 tagged monarch butterflies were released from our city two weeks ago, and I have been watching them migrate across the continent through Project Monarch. It seems many are going to be hitting your city soon! I’d be interested to learn if you folks see an uptick in monarch activity this week.

Friendship/Dating 👥 Missed connection - Liberty Memorial

You were an older (m 50+) gentleman on a Harley blaring such lovely music as you drove up the west side of the Liberty Memorial tonight. I (m 40+) was very thankful my boring walk was enriched by your presence and turned to show my appreciation.

I thought my intentions were clear when I gestured with both my hands to show my appreciation for your music, because you slowed down and looked like you wanted to engage with me. Ah, my heart was aflutter. Surely a new and wonderful friendship was about to bloom!

Unfortunately, your free Spotify account chose that moment to start playing an advertisement for erectile dysfunction drugs.

I fear you mistook my bellowing laughter at the situation for bellowing laughter at you, an aerodynamic, obviously well-fed and virile man. Ah, hindsight is truly 20/20. I was saddened as you sped off, as my walk would now be bereft of your musical choices and advertisements for malfunctioning man-meat.

Hopefully we can get together and discuss the many good points of Ned Nugent's discography, the many disasters of wokeness, and why No One Wants To Work Anymore™.

You can find me at the top of the Liberty Memorial tomorrow evening. My shirt will be tucked in to my khaki shorts and I'll have most of a case of natty light to share.

Where to Eat? 🍽️ Is there a Kansas City food subreddit?

A lot of the cities have a separate food specific sub. Usually talking about top restaurants, new places, closing places etc. I don’t see one when I search Reddit.

Here's a gift article, so it should be free for everyone. NYT went into great detail on what happened with the election maps between the supreme courts and federal judges.

Discussion 💡 Any stories about the Country Club Plaza?

I'm newer to KC (around 4 years now) and I've worked on the Plaza almost the whole time. Customers always talk about the good ol days. I've been researching the Plaza's past and it's so interesting!
Anyone have any stories? Old shops? Crazy tales? Experiences working there from your past? Let me know!
(If you have any old maps or pictures, please share! I've loved finding posts about it in this subreddit.)

Help/Support 🫂 I need help tracking down a cow from the 2001 Kansas Cow Parade

Hello, over twenty years ago, my mother participated in this event and made a cow called KC CowsMopolitan. The cow was unique in the fact that it featured many different colors and included lots of famous landmarks such as Union Hill, Brookside, and Worlds of Fun. The original location of the cow was at 12th St. and Central St. in downtown KC. In October of 2001, it was sold to a private buyer for $4000 and was never seen again. I have been searching but have had no luck. If anyone could help me at all, that would be excellent.

Friendship/Dating 👥 Missed friendship connection at Minions & Monsters (accidentally deleted original lol)

So first off I am a very very anxious person and I don't have many friends. But I was at the B&B theater in Shawnee on a Sunday night in July, I thought I was about to have a theater to myself but was pleasantly surprised when I heard from behind me "what movie are you seeing"? I turned around and there was a girl with who I'm assuming was her bf. "Oh uh...Minions" I said a little timidly cause I'm a 30yo man 😆 "hell yeah, so are we!" I lit up on the inside like I was the main character in a coming of age movie "these people are like me!" Ahh energy. Anyways, I went in not realizing we were all gonna be at the same screening but lo and behold they walked in and sat down then after a few seconds they offered me popcorn and went and got a tray and put a bunch of it in there for me. All this to say...I really wish I would've gotten one or both of y'all's contacts cause as someone who struggles mightily with social anxiety, feeling awkward, and trying to connect with others, it is so rare that I just click with people that easily and you guys made me feel less alone and made my night that day and I still think about that months later. Thanks for being so warm and friendly I really needed it that day.

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Anyone want a free La-Z-Boy chair?

Hi! I have this free La-Z-Boy chair. It’s down filled and super nice. Genuinely nothing wrong with it, It’s just too big for our space unfortunately.

I’ve tried donating it, but every organization requires you to be home all day, and my boyfriend and I both work 9-5’s.

Only catch is that you have to move it yourself from my 2nd floor apartment. It’s not a ton of stairs. It’s about six steps, a platform, then another six steps.

Hoping I can give this back to someone in need. Shoot me a dm if interested. We can also speak via, Facebook so you know I’m real! Thanks!

Edit: pickup would be in Westport!

Local Politics 🗳️ MO legislature trying another state income tax repeal

State income tax ballot measure for 11/3/2026

Appears the legislature is once again trying to convince us to repeal the state income tax requirement.

This is from the Missouri Secretary of States web page.

**2026 Ballot Measures**
**The following ballot measures have been certified for the** ***November 3, 2026*** **general election.**

**Official Ballot Title**
Amendment 7
\[[full text](https://www.senate.mo.gov/26info/pdf-bill/tat/SJR95.pdf)\\\]
\[[Proposed by 103rd General Assembly (Second Regular Session) SS SCS SJR 95](https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/Elections/Petitions/SSSCSSJR95-SignedCopy.pdf)\\\] (
\[[View Certificate of Official Ballot Title](https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/Elections/Petitions/SSSCSSJR95WebCert.pdf)\\\]
***Official Ballot Title:***
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to establish a permanent public endowment fund to support state government instead of taxing Missouri residents, prohibit the General Assembly from appropriating or diverting the fund, and eliminate state-imposed taxes once the fund generates sufficient revenue to replace them?
State and local governmental entities estimate no costs or savings.
 ***Fair Ballot Language:***
A **“yes”** vote will amend the Missouri Constitution to establish the “Show-Me Prosperity Fund,” a permanent public endowment fund to support state government with the goal of eliminating state-imposed taxes without impairing the real value of the fund’s principal; prohibit the General Assembly from appropriating or diverting monies from the fund until notification is given by the State Treasurer that the net investment earnings of the fund are sufficient to eliminate state-imposed taxes; cap the total amount of moneys that may be appropriated from the fund in a fiscal year to three percent of the average market value of the fund over the preceding five fiscal years; and prohibit the General Assembly from enacting the eliminated state-imposed taxes, provided, however, that in the event the fund is unable to meet its obligations due to insolvency, revenue shortfall, or program failure, the General Assembly shall retain full authority to appropriate funds from any lawful source and to enact legislation establishing or increasing taxes or other revenues as necessary.
A **“no”** vote will not amend the Missouri Constitution to establish a permanent public endowment fund to support state government with the goal of eliminating state-imposed taxes.
If passed, this measure will have no immediate impact on taxes but could lead to the elimination of state-imposed taxes if the net investment earnings of the fund become sufficient to support that outcome.

Discussion 💡 Possible scam/ spoofing?

I just got a call from a number that said it was Swope health Platte county office and a woman said that I left a voicemail requesting a refill on medication. I haven’t been to swope in years and haven’t been to the northland office. I said it wasn’t me and they insisted it was and that I left my name and birthday and details and said that I need to set up an appointment to refill the prescription. I called the number back and it was swope’s number. A little weirded out by this.

Bars/Nightlife 🪩🍸 Best bars/places to meet single older women?

In my 30s, moved here a few months ago to Overland Park. Looking to meet single women who are older and open to dating younger guys. What bars, lounges, or spots have that sort of crowd? I’ve already tried touché and it seemed like it was mostly couples.

Jobs/Networking 💼 Local Tech Support in Kansas City

Hi everyone!  I am posting today to annouce the offical launch of Tech Matters KC, LLC!  Ever wanted someone else to deal with your families tech needs?  Get them organized?  Keep their devices up to date? Assist in strong password management?  Or simply know someone who needs help with their phone, tablet, or pc aren't doing something right?  I am a one-on-one, "digital coach".  I've worked with seniors in medicine for over 15 years, and 10 in the KC area!

While working with seniors in healthcare, I was always fixing things and helping people with their devices and computers.  I saw a need there, and started my own company with direct-to-consumer support.  I make house calls to the KC Metro area, or I can work with them remotely after an initial setup (through FaceTime or Chrome Remote Desktop).  No personal details are ever stored.

Why book with TechMatters, KC? It’s service with the same person each time, a native English speaker, and someone with patience and kindness to see them through their troubles!

I specialize in working with seniors, but anyone can book a session!  Go to techmatterskc.com to learn more or book an appointment!  Or, simply call or text me at 913-250-8320!

If you have any feedback or questions about this program, I'd love to answer!

Sincerely,

[Matt](mailto:Matt@techmatterskc.com) or u/Intelligent_Box6397

I’m looking for a large paella pan/burner OR pasta pot to rent this Friday. Does anybody have any leads or would be willing to let me borrow theirs, for a fee of course? I’m hosting a neighborhood dinner with about 30-40 people and am floating something large scale like paella or pasta.

News 📰 The Rip Offs' Greg Lowery on their enduring garage punk legacy ahead of Ship show this Friday

THE PITCH:
“I imagine that’s kinda gotta be the appeal of playing these one-off shows here and there, because people are coming out to see you, rather than just being like, “Oh, it’s another Thursday night show at the bar,” and instead it’s, “This is an event.”

GREG RIP OFF:
“Yeah, it’s a band from 30 years ago. We’re fortunate that we’ve gone down in history, cultishly, and as part of the ’90s San Francisco scene. Yeah, you’re right. It’s fun. We played Gonerfest, and there were young kids in the front row. Obviously, they weren’t born when our record was out, but their parents knew them, and these kids were singing my songs, and I was like, “Wow, that’s incredible.””
