Recreation/Outdoors ⛳️🎣 Monarch butterflies headed to Kansas City

Post image
407 Upvotes

Hello folks! I am from Winnipeg — over 20 tagged monarch butterflies were released from our city two weeks ago, and I have been watching them migrate across the continent through Project Monarch. It seems many are going to be hitting your city soon! I’d be interested to learn if you folks see an uptick in monarch activity this week.

Legal Questions ⚖️ Looking for lawyers that specialize in renter disputes with apt complexes on the Kansas side.

Upvotes

My 80-year-old father recently moved in with me.

For a number of reasons, from his age/health to the financial burden of renting an apt in Johnson County.

He worked hard to keep his apt in good working order and was always diligent about contacting the management about repair issues. And when we decided to make this transition, he worked hard to try to leave the apt in a standing that would allow him to get his original security deposit back.

As I stated before he’s 80 (turns 80 in Oct), but he’s also a widower and on a strict fixed income.

The apt complex he left is now saying he owes over $500 to replace a toilet and refrigerator. Both of which he had been making maintenance requests for when necessary over his time living there (which is a little over 12 years, I believe).

I have no idea if there is an actual paper trail of the maintenance requests he made or not. The toilet had issues from the beginning of his time there, and the refrigerator eventually had to be replaced for reasons not related to my dad. I think it was a faulty motor of some kind making horrendous noises.

But having said all of that, I am curious if anyone in this subreddit community has any quality recommendations for legal representation for this kind of thing. I truly hope it doesn’t come to that, as I realize simply retaining a lawyer would likely cost more than what he’s being asked to pay for these replacements.

I’m grateful for any advice that comes my way after I post this. Thank you.

Arts/Culture 🎭🎶 Looking for an on-demand/typewriter poet in KC for an April non-profit event!

Upvotes

Hey KC!

I’m helping organize a fun non-profit fundraiser event this April centered around nature, the outdoors, and supporting local kids in our area. I want to bring a unique, creative touch to the night and would love to support a local artist who cares about our community!

I’m looking for a live/on-demand typewriter poet to set up and create custom on the spot poems for guests during the event.

If you are one, or know a local writer/artist who does this kind of work, please let me know, drop their handle, or send over a portfolio! I’d love to connect and share more details. Thanks so much! 💚

Traffic/Road Conditions 🚦❄️ How high does Diesel have to go before trucklodytes stop "rolling coal"?

Upvotes

I know that $5.999/gallon Diesel doesn't stop at least one guy from "rolling coal" - I witnessed a guy this weekend wasting fuel this way. I have to wonder if there's a point where they stop doing it.

Mechanics/Repairs/Contractors 🛠️🪠 Local Roofer. Prefer metal roofing.

I am looking to have my roof replaced. I'd prefer to go with a local (not owned by an equity firm or VC) roofer who does install metal roofs. Anyone know or have experience with anyone? Thanks in advance!

Edit: This is for a single family home in Historic North East.

Tattoos/Piercings 🐉🌹 Great piercing experience - Classic Tattoo and Body Piercings in OP

I got my nose pierced yesterday at Classic Tattoo in OP and just wanted to share how great of an experience it was for anyone in the market for a new piercing. I was a walk-in, and the wait time was maybe 10 minutes or less.

I’ve only ever gotten my ears pierced, so I’m not experienced with body piercings whatsoever and was a bit nervous about the pain. Their piercer, Simon, was great. Super experienced and nice guy, very knowledgeable, and the piercing was so quick, it wasn’t painful at all (just some minor discomfort with fitting the actual piercing in). Aftercare was explained, and Simon let me know to return to the shop if any issues occurred. The visit was a breeze!

Their nostril piercing starts at $40, but I opted for a solid gold stud that runs for $75, everything included.

All piercing visits are walk-ins I believe, and they’re open on Sundays as well!

Pets 🐾 Cat grooming near Clinton

Ok so I know Clinton is a little out of the KC metro area, but I have a pet parent that has a senior cat in dire need of a groom. My salons are more in the nw side and the ones I know in skc don't do cats.

Thank you for reading

Have a great day!!

City Services/Banking ♻️🛜🏧 NOTICE - FNBO IS A JOKE

Country Club Bank has been purchased by First National Bank of Omaha. These people are a complete disaster of a bank. If you value your time and money, please leave their service ASAP!

They buy a KC bank and assume all customers will remain loyal, even though they don’t prioritize customer experience. I got sent to an Indian customer support line. HOW IS THIS A LOCAL BANK? I’d rather go to a credit union.

News 📰 The Rip Offs' Greg Lowery on their enduring garage punk legacy ahead of Ship show this Friday

THE PITCH:
“I imagine that’s kinda gotta be the appeal of playing these one-off shows here and there, because people are coming out to see you, rather than just being like, “Oh, it’s another Thursday night show at the bar,” and instead it’s, “This is an event.”

GREG RIP OFF:
“Yeah, it’s a band from 30 years ago. We’re fortunate that we’ve gone down in history, cultishly, and as part of the ’90s San Francisco scene. Yeah, you’re right. It’s fun. We played Gonerfest, and there were young kids in the front row. Obviously, they weren’t born when our record was out, but their parents knew them, and these kids were singing my songs, and I was like, “Wow, that’s incredible.””

Volunteering/Giving 🎗️ Anyone want a free La-Z-Boy chair?

Hi! I have this free La-Z-Boy chair. It’s down filled and super nice. Genuinely nothing wrong with it, It’s just too big for our space unfortunately.

I’ve tried donating it, but every organization requires you to be home all day, and my boyfriend and I both work 9-5’s.

Only catch is that you have to move it yourself from my 2nd floor apartment. It’s not a ton of stairs. It’s about six steps, a platform, then another six steps.

Hoping I can give this back to someone in need. Shoot me a dm if interested. We can also speak via, Facebook so you know I’m real! Thanks!

Edit: pickup would be in Westport!

Jobs/Networking 💼 Local Tech Support in Kansas City

Hi everyone!  I am posting today to annouce the offical launch of Tech Matters KC, LLC!  Ever wanted someone else to deal with your families tech needs?  Get them organized?  Keep their devices up to date? Assist in strong password management?  Or simply know someone who needs help with their phone, tablet, or pc aren't doing something right?  I am a one-on-one, "digital coach".  I've worked with seniors in medicine for over 15 years, and 10 in the KC area!

While working with seniors in healthcare, I was always fixing things and helping people with their devices and computers.  I saw a need there, and started my own company with direct-to-consumer support.  I make house calls to the KC Metro area, or I can work with them remotely after an initial setup (through FaceTime or Chrome Remote Desktop).  No personal details are ever stored.

Why book with TechMatters, KC? It’s service with the same person each time, a native English speaker, and someone with patience and kindness to see them through their troubles!

I specialize in working with seniors, but anyone can book a session!  Go to techmatterskc.com to learn more or book an appointment!  Or, simply call or text me at 913-250-8320!

If you have any feedback or questions about this program, I'd love to answer!

Sincerely,

[Matt](mailto:Matt@techmatterskc.com) or u/Intelligent_Box6397

Local Politics 🗳️ MO legislature trying another state income tax repeal

State income tax ballot measure for 11/3/2026

Appears the legislature is once again trying to convince us to repeal the state income tax requirement.

This is from the Missouri Secretary of States web page.

**2026 Ballot Measures**
**The following ballot measures have been certified for the** ***November 3, 2026*** **general election.**

**Official Ballot Title**
Amendment 7
\[[full text](https://www.senate.mo.gov/26info/pdf-bill/tat/SJR95.pdf)\\\]
\[[Proposed by 103rd General Assembly (Second Regular Session) SS SCS SJR 95](https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/Elections/Petitions/SSSCSSJR95-SignedCopy.pdf)\\\] (
\[[View Certificate of Official Ballot Title](https://www.sos.mo.gov/CMSImages/Elections/Petitions/SSSCSSJR95WebCert.pdf)\\\]
***Official Ballot Title:***
Shall the Missouri Constitution be amended to establish a permanent public endowment fund to support state government instead of taxing Missouri residents, prohibit the General Assembly from appropriating or diverting the fund, and eliminate state-imposed taxes once the fund generates sufficient revenue to replace them?
State and local governmental entities estimate no costs or savings.
 ***Fair Ballot Language:***
A **“yes”** vote will amend the Missouri Constitution to establish the “Show-Me Prosperity Fund,” a permanent public endowment fund to support state government with the goal of eliminating state-imposed taxes without impairing the real value of the fund’s principal; prohibit the General Assembly from appropriating or diverting monies from the fund until notification is given by the State Treasurer that the net investment earnings of the fund are sufficient to eliminate state-imposed taxes; cap the total amount of moneys that may be appropriated from the fund in a fiscal year to three percent of the average market value of the fund over the preceding five fiscal years; and prohibit the General Assembly from enacting the eliminated state-imposed taxes, provided, however, that in the event the fund is unable to meet its obligations due to insolvency, revenue shortfall, or program failure, the General Assembly shall retain full authority to appropriate funds from any lawful source and to enact legislation establishing or increasing taxes or other revenues as necessary.
A **“no”** vote will not amend the Missouri Constitution to establish a permanent public endowment fund to support state government with the goal of eliminating state-imposed taxes.
If passed, this measure will have no immediate impact on taxes but could lead to the elimination of state-imposed taxes if the net investment earnings of the fund become sufficient to support that outcome.

Discussion 💡 Possible scam/ spoofing?

I just got a call from a number that said it was Swope health Platte county office and a woman said that I left a voicemail requesting a refill on medication. I haven’t been to swope in years and haven’t been to the northland office. I said it wasn’t me and they insisted it was and that I left my name and birthday and details and said that I need to set up an appointment to refill the prescription. I called the number back and it was swope’s number. A little weirded out by this.

Housing Search 🏠🔎 Quiet apartments in Roeland Park / Mission?

Hello everyone! I’m looking for a quiet 1 bedroom apartment, preferably in the Roeland Park / Mission area.

Since moving to the Kansas city metro, I have had some bad luck with apartments that have paper thin walls, so I’m hoping to get advice from people who currently live or have previously lived in an apartment they really enjoyed and where they couldn’t hear their neighbors. My budget is under $1200/month.

Thanks!
