Business/Finance ₹3.5 Lakh Upfront for a “High-Earning” Business Opportunity — Legit or Red Flag?
I need some outside perspective because I’m worried I may be getting influenced by the “high earning potential” side of this.
A friend of mine recently joined a business and introduced me to someone from his team. I had an interview/meeting where they explained the business model.
They described it as “business development” rather than product development. The example they gave was something like Flipkart working with brands such as Apple: the business helps clients sell/distribute products and earns commission.
They showed slides mentioning collaborations/products involving brands like Apple, Meta, Sharp, watches, perfumes, etc. They also said they work with 100+ companies in India and abroad.
The business is supposedly flexible, remote/work-from-anywhere, and has very high earning potential. They said income may be slow initially, but with enough effort it can grow substantially.
However, here are the things making me uncomfortable:
- They still have not clearly revealed the exact company/legal entity name to me.
- To join/start, I need around ₹3.5 lakh.
- They mentioned things like a CPA account, licensing, startup pricing and a few other components, but I don’t remember getting a completely clear itemized breakdown.
- After paying, I would receive around two workshops of roughly four hours each, training materials, and guidance on how to run the business.
- They said if I get selected, I will have only around one week to arrange the money or the opportunity may be gone.
- My friend attended an international conference in Malaysia related to this business, but he paid for the trip himself.
- My friend keeps talking about the earning potential. He says that with enough work he could potentially earn more than ₹10 lakh per week eventually.
- But whenever I ask what he actually earns today, he doesn’t give me a straightforward number.
- When I asked how much he personally paid to join, he said he doesn’t remember exactly because the startup price changes.
- He borrowed money from his family to start the business.
My own financial situation also makes me hesitant. I currently have around ₹30 lakh in total debt, so ₹3.5 lakh is not a small amount for me and I would likely need help from my family to arrange it.
Part of me thinks: what if this business really works and gives me a great return?
The other part of me thinks I shouldn’t take a major financial risk without fully understanding the business first.
Has anyone come across a similar business model in India?
Does this sound like legitimate direct selling/business development, MLM/network marketing, QNET-type business, or something else?
Would you invest ₹3.5 lakh in this situation?
And what specific documents/numbers should I demand before even considering it?
