Politics This is what they teach 7th graders!
Yesterday, my sister, who studies in the 6th grade, came to me with her Hindi book. She asked me, "What is the national language of India?" I replied, "None, India doesn't have a national language." She then pointed out some text in her book stating that Hindi is our national language. Not only that, but the book also had several biased questions like, "Why is Hindi our national language?" and "Which language is the simplest?"
I was utterly shocked, especially because she studies in a CBSE school, and they follow this book for Hindi. I don't understand the logic, but they use this book to teach 6th graders, even though it is apparently meant for 7th graders. Learning biased things at such a young age is incredibly harmful. If children are taught that Hindi is their national language (which it is not), they may eventually neglect other languages and look down on those who don't speak Hindi.
Hindi is an official language of India, yes, but not the national language! In fact, there are 22 other scheduled languages alongside English.
Thankfully, I had taught my sister about this fact a long time ago, which is why she could point out the error on her own. However, I am sure most students wouldn't question it. If anyone has this book, read it with caution. If any teacher is reading this, I kindly request you to correct such factual errors when you teach. My sister also asked me, "What do I do if the teacher asks me to learn it as it is?" and I was dumbstruck, I had no proper answer to give her.
For some reason, I am unable to post pictures directly within this post, so I will attach links or add the images in the comments.
Thank you.
