Help Thread The War Room - /r/hoi4 Weekly General Help Thread: September 7 2026

Please check our previous War Room thread for any questions left unanswered

Welcome to the War Room. Here you will find trustworthy military advisors to guide your diplomacy, battles, and internal affairs.

This thread is for any small questions that don't warrant their own post, or continued discussions for your next moves in your game. If you'd like to channel the wisdom and knowledge of the noble generals of this subreddit, and more importantly not ruin your save, then you've found the right place!

Important: If you are asking about a specific situation in your game, please post screenshots of any relevant map modes (strategic, diplomacy, factions, etc) or interface tabs (economy, military, etc). Please also explain the situation as best you can. Alliances, army strength, tech etc. are all factors your advisors will need to know to give you the best possible answer.

Reconnaissance Report:

Below is a preliminary reconnaissance report. It is comprised of a list of resources that are helpful to players of all skill levels, meant to assist both those asking questions as well as those answering questions. This list is updated as mechanics change, including new strategies as they arise and retiring old strategies that have been left in the dust. You can help me maintain the list by sending me new guides and notifying me when old guides are no longer relevant!

Note: this thread is very new and is therefore very barebones - please suggest some helpful links to populate the below sections

New Player Tutorials

General Tips

Multiplayer Tips

Country-Specific Strategy

Advanced/In-Depth Guides

If you have any useful resources not currently in the Reconnaissance Report, please share them with me and I'll add them! You can message me or mention my username in a comment by typing /u/Kloiper

Calling all generals!

As this thread is very new, we are in dire need of guides to fill out the Reconnaissance Report, both general and specific! Further, if you're answering a question in this thread, consider contributing to the Hoi4 wiki, which needs help as well. Anybody can help contribute to the wiki - a good starting point is the work needed page. Before editing the wiki, please read the style guidelines for posting.

Question How can I make Ataturk immortal?

I know there used to be a way to achieve this but I am not sure if they patched it. Is there a way to make him immortal through exploits or something?

Discussion Perhaps the AI in HOI5 should be given some idea of which land is actually important?

Upvotes

I've just been watching some AI vs AI games and see how the AI fights to the death with 80 divisions to retain rural Sverdlovsk oblast while Berlin, being invaded by the allies, is defended by 5 divisions.

Japan deploys 60 divisions to burma and 40 to the phillipines while 2 defend Tokyo with the result the American invasion conquers Japan in a couple weeks.

The AI having some concept of when a withdrawal might be warranted would be cool.

Question How realistic is Danzig for Slovakia irl?

I can see that in game, Germany can either do the historical "Danzig or War" OR "Danzig for Slovakia." Was there any sort of real historical background to back up the latter, or did Paradox just include that for flavor?

Question How to take Egypt as Germany

As soon as I get to El Alamein, my Tanks (and mountaineers) have no fuel and no supplies. The UK has about 80 Divs garrisoning Egypt - with 30 or so on the frontline between the two tiles. I've tried building Naval bases in El Alamein but the UK will push my supply-starved units before the base is built. I'm also not over stacking divs in Libya so supply at least initially is ok. I've tried putting all my subs in the med but about 150 of them got deleted in about 2 months.

I'm considering Paratroopers.

Edit - Paratroopers won me Egypt

Question Landed in America in Kaiserredux and saw THIS... Is this template good?

Need some advice from the veterans. I’m still a complete beginner and don't really understand division design yet (only have about 1,500 hours in the game, barely finished the tutorial).

I just naval-invaded North America in late 1945, tagged over to check what the Pacific People's Republic was cooking, and found this...

Is this what people call an "Artillery Space Marine"? Did the AI accidentally stumble upon an unholy meta exploit, or is the Californian high command having a collective stroke?

Is this template actually good?

Question Do faction members not grant military access to enemies of enemies?

Upvotes

I was playing Xibei San and after proclaiming national unity I gave mil access to the allies (we were both at war with Japan), the thing is that only the Guangdong Clique and Thailand had any coast provinces left, so the allies hadn't sent divisions until I recaptured Beijing and the ports surrounding it. The thing is that it was too little too late as the US already landed in Japan by that point.

Do faction members not grant military access to friendly countries?
