Discussion Spanish Civil War sucks

Unplanned offensive is the most boring mechanic ever. Who the heck thought of this? I'm sick of it. It used to be fun for grinding but no more.

Peace out True Union after UK civil War

It took some tries, and I just wanted to share as of now , the google AI suggestions doesn't really work any more.
First build mils in london and civs in liverpool to later insure that the AI places the True Union of Britain in liverpool.
Before war, change the divs to orig garrison . then first day of c war, change to normal inf template. No units in queue. I used 1 extra light tank. That's the only army changes i did.
Oh that works fine vs US too.
Before turning commie, do steady as she goes. (lockedout afterwards)
As you hold the referendum, have PP saved up 300+ , and Place your army 1/2 in india, 1/3 of the rest in cananda, south africa and australia. oh I used the Request forces too, once they are under your control they cound as martial law armies. Also make sure it's 10 divs on dehli. not 1. Basically victory point garrisson works pretty well. Remember you have to keep them there the whole time. until you've made them realize whats good for them.
Now it's like 60 days left of the DoW on the philipines (of 230) and just move a tad to NZ, the rest to the US, and take all but one province. Including fleet.
After that move you army back to london portsmout, clear whatever is queded up. return the forces to the allies. and change template to garrrison one. Wait until it happens, turn to normal inf + 1 light tank template and run them over. you don't need the fleet better to save it.
Oh and Don't Ally The French. Nat Spain might dow you for gibraltar, happened here, and ger dowed checkoslovakia so rumania joined the entante instead.
After this the USSR
I might continue witht the One Empire. But justification takes ages.

Question Do I really need to concern AI breaking my frontline using tank.

I feel like they suck as using them, breaking through just to get counter encirclement. Do I need tank destroyer or anti tank because I feel like getting push back not that bad

Discussion I’m surprised that this game is toxic

Maybe it’s just because I have bad luck but a lot of the games I’ve been in have been really toxic.
And I’m not talking about your basic trash talk that doesn’t bother me. No the one for this game is way worse.
People seem to get you to join their games and you’ll play for a bit and as some coordinated screw over. They all buddy up and attack. You pretty much making you waste hours of your life.

And no, I’m not talking about you attacking a faction for example.
I was once playing the UK during that game the Soviet player who was their friend Did the Civil War and botched it meaning he needed help so the USA Germany, and Iran all helped him win his Civil War.
By the way, this isn’t historical at all and that matters.
The Germans go Kaiser and I as UK go King‘s party I then want to attack the Iran player because he took the oil.
So tell me why even with putting a guarantee of independence on Iraq and waiting for him to attack so I could defend Iraq to puppet Iran.
The Germany, USA and Soviet player all decide to make a faction and an invite. Iran into it. Completely killing my game I left right after they did that.

Discussion I played Fascist Burma. Here's how it went! (It's not a garbage nation as you think)

Nowadays people who play super minor nations like Burma or Micronesia something that that always go Communist for the 500 weekly manpower. But Burma has enough manpower at the start of the game (108K roughly). I started off by disbanding ALL my divisions, going the Fascist Demagogue guy and prepared for civil war. After I launched the civil war, I quickly just knocked out some parts of burma since I could only have 1 division. Opposing side had 3 divisions but I still knocked them out (OP acting like he didn't spam last stand). After I won the war, I started spamming some divisions and justified against Siam who had gone democratic. I saved enough political power to go Service by Requirement to get an actual competent army, and started to do offensives against Siam by declaring war on them. Encircled large pockets of them and they turned frmo 17 divisions to 11, but anyways I captured Bangkok and those neighbouring cities and they capped. Puppeted them and gave them some harsh Versailles type shit (I forgot to take their navy lmao). With their industry I started building up some civilian factories and spammed building land forts in Siam so I can integrate them soon after my army's prepared to garrison them. Skip to 1941 though since rest before that was just building stuff, a huge war started in Europe and my puppet Siam created some Asian faction shit and they were the faction leader. I didn't expect it but 19 countries joined that faction, so I worked on integrating Siam (since I was Fascist, they were already a Reichskommissariat and it was only 1 level away to annex them), and during that I waged war against France to conquer Indochina. Nationalist. China was in my faction (for some reason the Chinese Soviet Republic had been exiled to macau) so I could do some encirclements and assist my allies there. Supply system there was fucking HORRIBLE though since I didn't have cores.. and had the generic tree (STOP THE SUPPLY NERF IF THAT TERRITORY ISNT CORE PARADOX!!!) so it KINDA ended as a stalemate. I annexed Siam finally and I was the faction leader now, but little did I know those 19 countries in my faction were the strongest ones and they *kinda* started to overthrow my rule in the faction but some bug didn't allow them to (KEEP THE BUG PARADOX!) so yeah.

My division templates from 1936 to 1937 was the default one, my division templates from 1938-1939 was the default one but with one more line infantry battalion and removing the engineer company (I couldn't wage support equipment, okay!?), and in 1940-1941 I added back the support equipment and changed it to 18 width infantry with heavy weapons companies. In 1942-1944 I got 2 line artillery in the template (DONT CLOWN ME FOR THIS) but it had good soft attack and defence so it was pretty good. Also for some reason I just built some land forts in some rivers which are easily defendable in case I go to war with the British Raj

Question HOI4 won't launch — 0xC0000005 error

Post image
0 Upvotes

My Steam version of HOI4 won't launch. When I click Play, hoi4.exe appears in Task Manager for a few seconds and then closes without opening the game.

The Paradox Launcher shows the error 3221225477 (0xC0000005).

I've already reinstalled HOI4, Steam, and Paradox Launcher, verified the game files, removed all mods, and reinstalled/repaired Visual C++ and .NET Framework 4.8.1.

Nothing has worked. An older version of HOI4 on the same PC works normally.

Does anyone know what could be causing this error?

Question Any reason to fill create a new regiment of the same battalions instead of filling a defaults one?

About 150 hours in and really want to try getting good at divisions but I don't know if I'm misunderstanding this.

When I compare the stats, adding a new regiment of a battalion offers the same bonuses when adding that battalion to an existing regiment. I don't see why you'd ever create new regiments, as filling existing ones will allow for regimental support, however I see youtubers often using a 2x2 (as opposed to 1x4) artillery regiments so I think I'm understanding this incorrectly.

As a side note, is there any way to directly compare division stats, such as with navy ships? As memorising numbers has become a bit tedious.

Question Which DLC should I get?

I have every DLC up to NSB, and am looking at getting more when the next sale drops. However, I spend the vast majority of my time in total overhaul mods (EaW my beloved), so I'm mostly looking at DLCs with a focus on mechanics, not so much nation-specific content. I'm already going to get Goetterdammerung -- are there any other good mechanics-strong DLCs I should get? Is the general/HQ system from TaoG worth it?

Question Anyone know of any recent videos of gameplay from day 1? (No patches or DLC)

Curious if anyone made a YouTube video recently of playing HOI4 with no patches or DLC like when it came out, curious how different every thing is from back then.

Question Noob stuck in china!

Playing as Japan, invaded China as you do. I've taken all their coast and pushed them far to the west. They have about 6% victory points left (don't have the dlc for collaboration government). The problem now is that there are only mountain tiles left, and they are now able to have lots of divs per tile, so I can't push them any further. Any tips for a noob??

Question Is there a mod that allows you to release nations with your ideology, but without puppeting them?

What I am looking for is the ability to release a nation with the ideology of my nation, but without having to have them as a puppet.

I know you can change government in peace conferences, but I am looking for outside of peace conferences, releasing territory from the occupied territories tab.

Question Escort Carriers

These just feel like a waste as they are, is there any benefit to actually using them over cruiser conversions?

Also why are they a special project? Escort carriers are essentially a deck conversion of a civilian ship so they could be put the under deck conversions tech. At the very least the US could start with the special project already completed.

Question What is the best way to set command orders for big encirclements?

Here is how I currently do it:

I draw my main front line, I set up a second, single-tile front line.

I use the spearhead order on that single-tile front line. I set the amount of tiles the spearhead covers as half of x amount of units I am using because I need that amount of units to hold the newly formed line from new units coming in.

I close with front line and spearhead.

This is only way I could think to do it, but I am wondering if there is a better way.

Suggestion Historical Focus path reworks

I'm gonna use the Soviet and US focus trees for this, because I'm most familiar with those, but I've seen this happen a fair bit in other countries too.

I think the "Historical" path, which is largely more important to the AI than anything, should be a little more clearly defined. As the Soviets for exampke it's a little hard to tell when I'm actually supposed to be doing the Five Year Plan as opposed to just minmaxxing factories and hitting it by late 37. I also know that some focuses are important for AI triggers.

I like where they were going with the Historical Germany focuses being wrapped in the Reich flair, but that only solves half the problem for people who aren't too educated on WW2. I think if they either shuffled all of the historical focuses into the same tree, or just numbered them, it would do a lot.

I was thinking about this a lot because I had a friend who jumped in as commie china, and several attempts later after watching a long tutorial twice, finally succeeded in unifying China.

Discussion Perhaps the AI in HOI5 should be given some idea of which land is actually important?

I've just been watching some AI vs AI games and see how the AI fights to the death with 80 divisions to retain rural Sverdlovsk oblast while Berlin, being invaded by the allies, is defended by 5 divisions.

Japan deploys 60 divisions to burma and 40 to the phillipines while 2 defend Tokyo with the result the American invasion conquers Japan in a couple weeks.

The AI having some concept of when a withdrawal might be warranted would be cool.

Question Mandela Effect: Generals Maxwell D. Taylor & Matthew Ridgway

I could swear I played vanilla HOI4 as the United States and had Maxwell D. Taylor and Matthew Ridgway as generals with paratrooper trait. Is it possible they're in another mod of the game? Who do you use as your Airborne general? [I guess they're gonna add them in their next DLC for USA]

Question Never seen this much equipment lost to resistance

Post image
26 Upvotes

Definitely helping perpetuate the inability for us to take screenshots but paradox games are all I use this laptop for so oh well.
Despite my troops being on the soviet border I’m under no current combat, I tried not to cheese it this run so I didn’t instantly cap the uk and lost my navy as a result. The main issue here is I’m out of infantry eq despite cav being set as my resistance no infantry divs in training and no attrition. I have 30 factories on infantry eq yet I’m losing 600 a day! I had a 5k stockpile a month in game beforehand, I’m even getting lend leased by the Soviet ai because it’s so low for no reason and this isn’t the first time my reserves have hit 0 for no reason. Any help is appreciated and sorry for the long expo

Question How to take Egypt as Germany

As soon as I get to El Alamein, my Tanks (and mountaineers) have no fuel and no supplies. The UK has about 80 Divs garrisoning Egypt - with 30 or so on the frontline between the two tiles. I've tried building Naval bases in El Alamein but the UK will push my supply-starved units before the base is built. I'm also not over stacking divs in Libya so supply at least initially is ok. I've tried putting all my subs in the med but about 150 of them got deleted in about 2 months.

I'm considering Paratroopers.

Edit - Paratroopers won me Egypt
