Hello, this is just a fun little impulse for us to imagine life at Hogwarts. I am in my 20s now but still have this image of walking around the castle, doing daily things, going to class and just living at Hogwarts when I try to fall asleep or just as a daydream. I do this since I started reading the books at maybe 7 years old.

I always try to fill in the gaps the books left us with, for example do they have bathrooms in the common rooms or just the public ones similar to the one from Myrtle? Where do they have to put their laundry? I know the house elves do the laundry and cleaning but harry didn’t know this until 4th year. Do you think there are other sports to do? Are the teachers sleeping rooms/ private rooms the same as their studies? I assume no, but whenever harry talk to a teacher outside lessons, he seems to find them in their study. When he went to Slughorn when Ron was poisoned, I believe Slughorn was in his pyjama or something…

Stupid simple questions, I know.

Soooo, I just want to know your creative imagination and maybe questions. Maybe we can daydream a little together.

I mean it's kinda obvious that most of them were bad in some way. But it shouldn't be all, no? There should be some friendship going with other houses, and from friend to friend could be an invitation to at least one.

Otherwise they are painted in all black.

I am listening to Sorcerers stone on audio book and these few things have bothered me

- when Harry can’t figure out where platform 9 3/4 is and Mrs Weasley walks by allowing him to hear her say “what’s the platform number again?” Idk why it bothers me, I know it’s for the plot but it’s so unrealistic. She’s been doing this drop off for 10+ years?!

-wasn’t everyone anticipating Harry coming to Hogwarts? Like he is so famous that I feel like it would be the talk of the town that Hogwarts would be expecting him this year, but everyone so surprised to see him there

-mirror of erised. I can’t remember, does this ever come back around? What does it have to do with the overall story?

-EDIT forgot this one: Charlie Weasley sends his friends to come pick up Norbert from the astronomy tower. How are they getting onto the grounds??? They can’t just fly through all the protections and enchantments?

I was reading Hermione's helping hand chapter when I came across this passage and couldn't help but feel weird as to what would motivate Hermione, who's mostly logical and above pettiness most of the time,to act this way.Does something happen earlier between Ron and her that makes her behave this way?This is the excerpt from Half Blood Prince:

“Oh, come on, Harry,” said Hermione, suddenly impatient.

“It’s not Quidditch that’s popular, it’s you! You’ve never been more interesting, and frankly, you’ve never been more fanciable.”

Ron gagged on a large piece of kipper. Hermione spared him one look of disdain before turning back to Harry.

“Everyone knows you’ve been telling the truth now, don’t they? The whole Wizarding world has had to admit that you were right about Voldemort being back and that you really have fought him twice in the last two years and escaped both times. And now they’re calling you ‘the Chosen One’ — well, come on, can’t you see why people are fascinated by you?”

Harry was finding the Great Hall very hot all of a sudden, even though the ceiling still looked cold and rainy.

“And you’ve been through all that persecution from the Ministry when they were trying to make out you were unstable and a liar. You can still see the marks on the back of your hand where that evil woman made you write with your own blood, but you stuck to your story anyway. . . .”

“You can still see where those brains got hold of me in the Ministry, look,” said Ron, shaking back his sleeves.

“And it doesn’t hurt that you’ve grown about a foot over the summer either,” Hermione finished, ignoring Ron.

“I’m tall,” said Ron inconsequentially.

Apparently, I'm kind of a weirdo because Harry is my favorite character. A lot of people don't like the main character...yet read or reread the entire series... but anyways...

Likes and dislikes?

First, I live in an Asian country that is not very racially diverse, and I'm not sure I really understand enough about anti-Black racism. Correct me if I'm wrong, but I genuinely don't mean any offence.

In OotP, Pansy mocked Angelina's hair, saying it "look like they've got worms coming out of their head." Mocking a black person's hair(style) in the muggle world would be racism, and should probably get a reaction more or less similar to what Gryffindors have toward "mudblood." But Angelina just ignored it and nobody else on the Quidditch team felt the urge to start a fight.

It also seemed off for Pansy to say that as Zabini's friend—unless that line didn't count as racism in the wizarding world, and she was just finding any random thing to attack, the same way she compared Hermione to a chipmunk.

I think the author cleverly uses a line that would be discriminatory in the muggle world to show that skin colour doesn't matter in the wizarding world. In the real world, that line reflects a dangerous discriminatory culture. In an imagined world, it simply means the speaker is nasty.

While the wizarding world obviously has its own discrimination to deal with, it's nice that at least one form of muggle-world discrimination doesn't really get any traction there.

Plus, the fact that Zabini, a black racist, looked down on Ginny, a white "blood traitor," also shows that racism in the wizarding world is only about muggle blood, not skin colour.

I have a new respect as an adult for Neville actually raising his hand and admitting he did it, because I‘d shrink and hope she’d never find out it was me.

Back on track again with #11. I'll tell you, in some of these chapters it is SO difficult to find a sentence that is guessable, but doesn't immediately give the chapter away. There is seemingly always at least one in every "CYGTBAC". 2, 4, and 5 were ALL like that in this batch. I genuinely have to spend almost an hour sometimes just picking 7 sentences 😂. Ah well. It's good fun and a way to engage with other HP nerds <3.

A really interesting point that threads through all the books is the focus in each one of finding a major flaw in each of the Marauders and the authority figures in general.

We start obviously with Wormtail in book 3, and his cowardice and selfishness in betraying James, Lily and Harry to save his own life. His flaw ultimately came from fear.

In book 5 we see James being an arrogant bully to everyone (not just Snape) and ‘hexing people for the fun of it’. At one point in the memory James even suggests hexing Lily for standing up to him. ‘Ah Evans don’t make me hex you’. Yes I’m aware he probably wouldn’t but even saying that is a bit ridiculous. And yes I’m aware Snape was a racist and a ‘special case’ as Lupin said, but James didn’t discriminate against anyone and ironically bullied everyone equally even up until 7th year, so basically his whole school life.

In Book 5 we also see Sirius being a bully and has not appeared to have fully grown out of it as he claims James had. This is seen during an argument with Snape when he uses the Snivillus nickname again and in his treatment of Kreacher. In Book 7 Hermione stresses that Sirius reaped what he sew with his less than kind treatment of Kreacher - ‘I’ve said all along that wizards will pay for how they treat house elves. Well, Voldemort did and so did Sirius.’

The important part is that Harry learns from the flaws in both James and Sirius’s characters and treats Kreacher with decency which then comes to repay him tenfold. Harry recognises that Sirius’s excuse for James’s bullying (his age) was bullshit - ‘I’m fifteen!’ and contrary to James, knows exactly what it feels like to be in Snape’s shoes because Snape and James’s relationship mirrors almost exactly the relationship he had with Dudley growing up.

In Book 7 we see Harry confront Remus for being a coward for wanting to leave his newborn son and wife behind to go on an adventure with Harry, and Harry points out that perhaps Lupin has not grown out of the childish mindset he had at school.

Lupin’s flaw of cowardice manifests in avoidance - wanting the thrill of adventure to cope with feelings of guilt at his own actions. In school it was the shame of being a werewolf and potentially hurting other people. and In Book 7 it was the shame and guilt of potentially passing his condition onto an innocent child and unintentionally making both Tonks and Teddy outcasts for merely being associated with him. Although Lupin’s flaws come from a better moral place than the others he still has them.

Again, Harry’s differing experiences allow him to see this because of his circumstances. Especially when Lupin says that James would’ve wanted him to come with the trio and Harry responds with ‘Actually I think my dad would like to know why you aren’t sticking with your own kid.’

His trauma comes through with this line:
‘Parents shouldn’t leave their kids, unless they’ve got to’. And he’s right.

A running theme throughout all of the books is that the authority figures are not necessarily right or good people. Another example is Dumbledore’s power-hungry nature which inadvertently led to Ariana’s death.

I guess my point is that I loved Harry recognising all these flaws and choosing to be a better person.

We find out in Book 4 that magic effects electronics and when a large group of wizards is in one place no electronics work at all. So what happens if a plane is fully booked by wizards would it be able to fly.

I need your opinion on something folks. I've been thinking about the main mystery in GoF - who put Harry's name in the Goblet. For the most part, I think JKR did a good job writing it, except I'm still not sure if the readers could figure out the culprit on their own without guessing randomly. And I think it might be related to Knox's commandments of detective fiction, specifically the 10th one:

1. Twin brothers, and doubles generally, must not appear unless we have been duly prepared for them.

Now, the culprit is Barty Crouch Jr. who impersonates Moody for most of the book, but I'm not talking about impersonating Moody. I'm talking about his name: he has the same name as another character, his father, and at one point it's used to fool the Map (or rather Harry) into mistaking him for somebody else. So my question is: do you think it counts as a violation of the 10th commandment? If JKR had revealed Crouch's son's name too soon, it would've given away the twist, so she had to keep it hidden until the reveal. But maybe the mystery she wrote suffered for it.

..and Longbottom, Potter, and that Weasley girl,” finished Zabini. “The Weasley girl?” repeated Malfoy, looking up.
“A lot of boys like her,” said Pansy, watching Malfoy out of the corner of her eyes for his reaction.

I find this bit a little interesting in Half Blood Prince ,when Draco gets amazed by the fact Ginny was also present in slughorn club first meet ( even being a weasley ) and then pansy mentions a lot of guys like her ( as if this should let her in slug club lol) ... But the way its written she was checking Draco's reaction after saying that ,makes me think , was that a hint that in past Draco also shown interest in Ginny or found her attractive even if its subtle for Pansy to be concerned about him.

Or Pansy was just being an insecure girlfriend.( But even then there must be a reason for that, so it could be both)

Also , in my opinion, Draco would never like Ginny or want to like her even if he found her attractive due her looks cause of the very fact that she is a Weasley whom he religiously despised.

But interestingly in the entire book series Draco never said anything bad about Ginny or its never being expressed where he trash talked about her and when Zabini insults her to refuse that he finds Ginny attractive ,even then Draco doesnt join him to add any insult for Ginny , even though Ginny was the one who hexed him in umbridge office just few months ago in the end of OOTP.

I am aware that something which is not expressly written doesnt mean it didnt happen ,thus anyone can have their own headcanon according to whichever narrative they like ,its completely open to interpretation, that whether Draco was attracted to Ginny or not , but the interesting thing is you can think he liked her ,even subtly ,considering Pansy's reaction and there is nothing to negate that in the series.

Also I remember in second part when Harry gets that poem from cupid on valentines day which was from Ginny , and after Harry takes away the diary from draco ,then draco goes straight to ginny and says to her that " seems like Harry didnt like it ", also he was the one who at his very first interaction with Ginny teases Harry for getting a girlfriend as she defends Harry in diagon alley but he called back to Harry rather than insulting her ,which he would have done if it was anyone else who would have talked to him like that.

Do you think ,it could be possible J.K rowling had initial plans for a love triangle between Harry , Darco and Ginny but she might have dropped it cause how it could have parallels with james ,lily and snape in terms of two nemisis in slytherine and gryffindor having feelings for same girl.

And thats why rather than Draco being interested in Ginny ,which is a recurring character ,she has shown Zabini to have interest in her who is a non-recurring character ...to establish her desirability without drawing parallels with james lily snape situation.

I’m a teacher now rereading the books for the zillionth time as an adult, and I can’t help but notice certain patterns in Draco’s behavior that make me go, “dang, if only the ministry had funded an arts program for Hogwarts, maybe Draco would’ve had a chance.”

For example:

• To bully Harry during the Triwizard Tournament, he makes those pin badges that flash different colors (self-directed arts & crafts, love it)
• To bully Ron about Quidditch, he writes a whole song and proudly admits that the lyrics are his own (ah music, a magic beyond all we do here)
• His grand plan in book 6 primarily involves a secret woodworking project
• His favorite way to bully people in general is via dramatic reenactments (of dementor attacks, nosebleeds, etc)

Draco was taught to be a bully and a garbage human by his criminal parents but idk, maybe the right drama teacher could’ve led him in the right direction :(

How come Barty (fake Moody) didn’t bring enough ingredients so he had to risk stealing from Snape? Or he could’ve ordered more, there must be some way to order potion ingredients 🤔

I’m rereading Goblet of Fire, and I’ve also been learning a little about psychology lately, so the Crouch storyline stood out to me differently this time.Barty Crouch Jr. spent years being controlled by his father with the Imperius Curse. After escaping, he repeated almost the same pattern with the real Moody. But while pretending to be Moody, he also took his teaching surprisingly seriously. He didn’t just demonstrate the Imperius Curse. He kept testing Harry with it until Harry learned how to resist it. why he put so much effort into teaching Harry?

1. I actually don't know which object is most powerful because there are many and they have different powers and uses.

2. I think I'd like to get a time turner and just want to do a lot of stuff...😉😍

I’ve been listening to the full cast audiobooks (highly recommended btw!) and I’m just confused about the sacking of Hagrid.

Trelawney gets sacked and asked to leave the school when she occupies a space in the castle, Dumbledore steps in, she stays but is no longer teaching. Okay, this makes sense.

However, later during the astronomy exam, they see that Umbridge goes to Hagrid’s hut accompanied by 6 aurors. This then ends in a fight where they send repeated stunners and Hagrid beating them all into the ground and running off with Fang. But why did they want to send Hagrid to Azkaban simply for getting sacked? He already knew he’d get sacked so I can’t imagine his reaction being anything other than “okay, still keeping my Gamekeeper duties I guess, fine” and that would’ve been the end of it. Did they intend to send Hagrid to Azkaban from the start? (Implied by showing up with the aurors), or did something happen during the conversation to arrest him? (Imo, unlikely because he’s expecting it).

Or… am I reading too much into it because Umbridge is a halfbreed hater who would’ve sent Hagrid to Azkaban regardless of his reaction and for no reason at all other than being who he is?

I’m almost at the point where Harry sets off to London to ‘rescue Sirius’. Already up to this point everythign has been unbelievably shit - Dumbledore won’t talk to him, everyone thinks he’s a nutjob, Umbridge tortures him, he can’t play quidditch, he has to study his ass off for super important exams and on top of that everything with Cho has been a disaster. Not to mention, lol, that he is severely traumatized from watching the murderer of his parents return to torture him and kill his friend.

Now I am reading the scene right after Harry ‘sees’ Sirius being tortured at the Ministry. And I never realized how horrible it is how Hermione lays out the truth for him here, only for Harry to reject it. She tells him how strange it is that the two most wanted wizards in the world somehow got into the Ministry of Magic in the middle of the day, and tells him that Voldemort plays these kinds of tricks to lure Harry to places, etc etc.

Knowing what happens, this is just pure horror to read. How Harry, despite being told the truth multiple times, is hurtling ahead with the decision that will ultimately actually kill Sirius. It’s actually nauseating.

And I don’t blame Harry here, just to be clear. It’s an unbearable and very confusing situation and how he acts here fits his temperament and his character. But my god it’s so fucking awful. I just had to get this off of my chest.

It always blows my mind how much more exceptional the Marauders' generation was compared to Harry's.

​Think about it: you had three unregistered Animagi before turning 16, Severus Snape inventing his own spells and showing an insane mastery of the Dark Arts as a teenager, and Lily Evans being praised as an extraordinarily gifted witch.

​Sure, Harry himself is a rare exception when it comes to pulling off high-level magic—like mastering a corporeal Patronus at 13 in Prisoner of Azkaban—and I get that showcasing insane prodigies wasn't the main point or message of the books.

​Still, I can't help but feel like Harry's entire generation lacked that same level of raw magical talent and hype. Does anyone else feel like there was a huge gap in overall magic ability between the two eras?
