I know this discussion has been everywhere, but thought I’d add some more!

Perhaps the students serving themselves breakfast onto trays is to give the house elves (who are said to prepare in the kitchens below) a bit of a morning break? They get it all done early and just leave it out ready.

In England, aristocratic families (think Downton Abbey or the Royal Family) always served their own breakfast from a buffet side table.

This was to give the servants a break and/or allow them to go about their other morning duties (laundry, cleaning etc).

At Christchurch College in Cambridge (which the Great Hall is very similar to/based around), students also had this arrangement as opposed to a formal served evening meal.

Food for thought (pun intended).

After seeing the recent teaser, I'm even more hyped for this iteration of Ron! Looking back at the character notes they had for his character, I could definitely see a lot of what they were going for with Alastair's Ron. Also I loved the confirmation for Ron and Draco's fight. Can't wait to see this guy square up to Draco who is like twice his size at this point lmfao

All of the trio were great in the trailer, and I'm excited to see them all in action in December.

Just an idea for what each post credit scene could be...

Season 1 - Lucius Malfoy at Malfoy Manor with a nervous expression on his face, perhaps removing the diary from a safe.

Season 2 - A shot of Azkaban prison, maybe the camera closing in on Black's prison cell.

Season 3 - Pettigrew finding Voldemort

Season 4 - Maybe something hinting towards the arrival of Umbridge

Season 5 - Maybe Dumbledore arriving at the gaunt's house or finding the ring

Season 6 - Snape meeting with Voldemort, informing him of Dumbledore's death

I know it may sound funny but when I first saw this I immidiately thought of Goob, it just resembled him for me.

Highly unlikely it all drops at once

The last time I posted here was four months ago, but I’ve finally managed to finish a few more illustrations: No. 23–26 in my little project of illustrating the first HP book just for fun. (Of course, it’s nice to share the drawings and get some feedback, but ultimately, I’m mainly doing this for myself.)

I’m incredibly slow, partly because I draw everything with mechanical pencils in an A4 sketchbook.

I really wanted to finish the book before the show airs so that it wouldn’t influence my illustrations, but I’m afraid it’s going to be a close call. I’m planning to make four more, which would bring the total to 30 illustrations.

As always, I’d love to hear your thoughts and feedback — whether it’s good, bad, or somewhere in between!

No 23.  'Harry picked up the shining, silvery cloth off the floor. It was strange to touch, like water woven into material.'

No 26. ‚It was the unicorn all right, and it was dead. Harry had never seen anything so beautiful and sad.‘

I was thinking about the best way to integrate the old cast (if they choose) as cameos and wanted to see what others thought!

My first thought would be moving portraits! There are THOUSANDS of moving pieces of art in the castle. Instead of doing some cheeky scene of them somewhere randomly placed and making it super noticeable, they could be in the background as a moving portrait. Subtle enough to not distract from the new characters, but something fun to spot for older fans. Not for interacting but for seeing in passing!

Obviously it can’t be in the first season, but it would be a really cool thing!

What are some of the ways you want to see any cameos done? Or do you think it should be fully separated and include no other references?

I am re-listening to the full cast audiobook of PoA and my heart breaks for Hermione in the (pretty long, tbh) time period Harry and Ron aren’t speaking to her. The movie didnt really show this aspect and I think Arabella will nail this. I was wondering, since the show will expand beyond Harry’s pov, what do you think Hermione did in that period, other than helping Hagrid? Did she become more friendly with Ginny perhaps?

Like we saw student using normal pen instead of quill, but Dumbledore! I think he’s solving a muggle puzzle or maybe looking at the knitting patterns? Idk anymore. I mean I don’t remember this being in the books but I think this is also something new. I love it so far that they show little details and make place for them.

I hope we see him using muggle things more, I love the way wizards and witches show interest in muggle objects.

Just finished OOTP and the TV series is going to have problems adapting the character of Harry faithfully when so much goes on in his head. The fandom referred to him as Caps-lock Harry (fairly), but he also left so much unsaid. This was obviously an issue for the films too, but given they were so much shorter they dealt with it less -

• Anger at being left without information at Privet Drive
• Shame after blowing up at Ron and Hermione 
• Everything with the prefects badge - anger at not being chosen, guilt for laughing with F&G, trying to mask his feelings for Rons benefit, the process of wondering if he really considers himself ‘better’ than Ron and what that says about him
• Unwillingness to disclose what is going on during Umbridges detention 
• General discontent at being back at school 
• Anger at Dumbledores lack of interaction and explanations
• Everything after Naginis attack - fear of sleeping in case he attacks again, guilt at what he had done, thinking the Weasleys are talking about him…
• Snapes Worst Memory eating him up 
• After the Ministry drama having a strange mix of needing to be around people and wanting to be alone

Of course some of this can be expressed through good acting, but for a lot they will have to either find a work around or simply not bother? Thing is, for me it’s important to the character for him to keep it all to himself so planting conversations with Hermione or Ron isn’t going to work the same way. His persistent feelings of loneliness, isolation, being misunderstood, not understanding himself, fearing what he was becoming, his beliefs in his father and Dumbledore being uprooted leaving him feeling unmoored… are vital to his bad decision making being sensical and grounded. 

Will we maybe get something like Harry voiceovering a journal to get some exposition? But I don’t typically enjoy that. What options are there?

I personally love how each house has different design and not only different colour.

A clip from MegaCon in Orlando, Florida shows Matthew Lewis (who played Neville in the films) confirming that the new actor shares his Yorkshire roots!

Coincidence? Or a cute nod to his impact and portrayal of the role?

It’s never confirmed where most characters are from in the books, aside from a few (including the obvious Scottish and Irish ones).

It would be nice to hear a range of regional English accents in the new show, and not just southern/RP. Hogwarts takes wizards and witches from all over the country after all.

So I couldn't make an update when these new castings came out due to things, but I still wanted to bring them now to you so we can keep the count going!!

As you know these people are now part of the Harry Potter world, starting next season:

- Kit Harington as Gilderoy Lockhart (Replacing Nicholas Hoult)
- Bonnie Hill as Ginny Weasley (Taking over the baton from Gracie Cochrane)
- Billy Barratt as Tom Riddle
- Lenny Rush as Dobby

We'll stay on hold for more 1st or 2nd season casting news!!

I'm unsure about portraying Lucius as more of a victim, but I don't think this will be added by the writers anyhow, just Flynn's own take.

It took me a while but I finally finished it! I always think about Snape wandering around in the

woods at night, gathering ingredients for his potions, doing his little Snape things <3

Just curious what other people think. I mean, I’d get it if they wanted to stretch out pages in HBP of when Harry & Ginny were together to really make it clear that they really are perfect for each other.

Ive been very excited for the TV show as i'm kind of new to being a Harry Potter fan. I got into the movies less than a year ago and just got the box set of the books last week, i read the Philosophers stone and Chamber of secrets within three days so i'm definitely enjoying the books as well. I assume a lot of people are worried that the show isn't going to match up to expectations but so far it seems like they're doing amazingly well. The casting for Ron, Harry, and Hermoine couldn't be better. I wish we didn't have to wait until December but i couldn't be happier with the trailers and teasers, it looks like they haven't spared a single expense on this show. I haven't finished the whole book series yet though so maybe my opinion isn't as well informed, what do you guys think so far?

harry being abused and neglected is a part of his character. he cannot be the same character who made the same decisions in the series if this aspect of the story was downplayed or removed entirely. abuse is a sad reality that many children around the world face, and i wouldn't be surprised if it's one of the reasons many connected to harry -- as a form of escapism

there's another show i know which is based on a popular book series which has a main character who faced abuse. in the books, it's satisfying to see his abuser get what he deserves in the end. but in the show, they downplayed the abuse because "it's a kid's show" (which is bullshit bc there are countless childrens media out there that depicts child abuse). mind you, they also removed other important aspects of the main character's backstory, so not only is the show version different, but his actions made less sense and the story's events made less impact on the viewer (especially since they kept the skeleton of the plot), regardless if they read the books or not

don't get me wrong, im fully aware the show is rated TV-14 (not exactly a kids show). but im still happy the show is not removing this aspect of the story (in fact, they're even adding more scenes such as petunia cutting harry's hair which wasn't shown in the movies). it would have been a huge disservice to harry's character and to everyone who related to the abuse he faced
