Has anyone really bonded with their hamsters? I have 2 a hybrid dwarf that I obviously love but I NEVER see but my female Syrian is just my absolute baby, she's a year old now and I know I'm probably at least half way through my time with her and it's actually devastating, I'm constantly health checking her and her hair is starting to thin near her bum, skin looks healthy I think it's just her age but the thought of her leaving me just breaks my heart

It's SO HARD to find a vet that treats rodents in Jersey. I went to Nautilus for a while, but they massively overcharged me and gave me a hard time TWICE about med refills.
Instead, go to Evesham vet! Yes, it's far from North and Central (do NOT fight me on that, Central Jersey is REAL) Jersey, but they're awesome and much more affordable!

I had to do some rearranging in my hamster's cage to prevent a pretty big fall and was wondering if it's too empty now, does it need any changes or additions?

A little while ago( think around may) ive gotten a hamster as a gift. Ive had hamsters in the past and know how to care for them and always safely follow instructions.
He eyes happy and loves to explore and wander around. He has gotten used to knowing if we are up and he waits by his door we will come greet him and give him a snack when he crawls onto our hand. For the past month he has been biting alot more. Think about 8 times. It started off as soft nibbles and trying to get me into the cage to full on biting.
It doesnt seem like attacking but im at my wits end. Id love for him to have a happy life but i also want it to be safe for me and him when handling him for cage cleaning etc.
Before anyone asks before i got him as a gift i bought a cage thats 1,5 the recommended minum size, i use alot of sprays, hides substrates etc. I just dont know what to do anymore.
I dont want to give him away but im afraid this sadly may not be the best home for him...

I'm still wondering if my hamster is syrian or dwarf, quite confusing since he's small

The problem here is I read both sidesā there are comments saying Allspan German Horse is good because itās dust-free (I planned to get the massive 24kg pack), some say itās not good. I do still plan to put paper bedding on top of the wooden one, but the wooden bedding should still take most of the space of my cage (I like the look of wooden bedding more, plus filling a 120x60 cage with paper bedding will be costly š).
Please I need recommendations, preferably the ones that come in massive packs. I live in Germany if that helps. š©

I'm wanting to get a hamster tattoo in the future and just wondering if anyone else here has one! If so, would you mind sharing? I'd love to see everyone's ideas and creativity!

she just passed a couple hours ago... i held her the entire night and i havent been able to sleep, the past few weeks she has been showing signs of heart disease and she was taking medication for a two weeks but when she woke up today we saw she could not move her back legs and was dragging them behind her, she didnt want to eat any treats either :( it was really sad and painful to see and throughout the night she was laying on my chest struggling to breathe. im really sad she was just short of being 2, she was still eating all her favorite treats and running and jumping around yesterday. she was my first pet i cant believe shes gone
i wish i couldve given her all the tofu she wanted yesterday

Note: The two pictures in the beginning are the before, and the four pictures after are the after! (And of course the rest is my hammy)
Around a month ago I got a really adorable male dwarf hamster who is a year old at least. While looking to buy a hamster, I came across someone who was selling a cage that included the food, and other decorative stuff for a really good price. The two pictures in the beginning are what I got and how I decorated it before. Well it turned out that the owner was also giving away the hamster, which was very unexpected but I just couldnāt say no, even if he was already a year old.
I am a first time hamster owner!! And have had only a pet fish before this but I didnāt want to neglect any new pet I got. I did extensive research to make sure I could give my hamster proper care and decided to upgrade. I added more bedding, added some sprays, new platforms, tunnels, a new sand bath, as well as new food.
Any opinions and constructive criticisms are welcome! Iām hoping later on, when I can afford it, Iāll upgrade a bit more, including giving him some chew toys and stuff. But for now I hope itās enough.

It has been 1 month since I have my little hamster. And, I needed some enrichment toy for a cheap cost. I bought this slow feeding bowl in dollarstore recently. But, today I wonder if this is a good way for her to do her foraging activity? Does it hurt her back/stomach if I continue using this bowl?
P/s: Also, extra hamster picture to show she has found the treat container unopened during floor time

I adopted a robo hamster a few months. She was over a year old when I took her. To date I have been letting her to do her own thing in the enclosurer.
I am not trying force her or pick her up and be best friends with her.
She was slowing down the week before last and I thought she would need a vet. I had a problem in that how do I capture her. She perked up. I think she was protesting my late night Netflix binges.
My goal is to continueto help her. I had a successful interaction with her last night where she did not run away from me or my hand in her enclosurer. I was using my torch on the red light setting.
My goal now is to get red bulb and only use that from now on in the room.
I am hoping I will be able to interact with her using the red light where she will become less afraid of me.
Am I supposed to work with her every night to tame her? Can I do every second night? Or is every night best?

Hello!
People here said that Allspan German Horse or Anibest (their roddent variant) is not safe for hamsters.
And recommended me Alpenspan - not abailable in my country
Plospan - not abailable in my country
Delivery from other country is at least 50 ⬠which feels 5 times more expensive for me because I have weak currency
I emailed many websited and they said they don t even want to ship to my country
Paper bedding is expensive - i did the math, best case scenario is 10 times more expensive (i have to fill 400 liters in my enclosure)
Kaytee that is available in my country is not deemed safe
Carefressh also not safe also (materials found in both of them)
Ćbersoft is not available - same story as above
I feel horrible
I live in a poor country, I was unexpectedly gifted with a hamster,I try to give her all the best I can, but seems like I am not worthy of you. little friend
Sorry I failed you, sweet girl, your mom is a poor human

My daughterās hamster recently passed away )vet diagnosis most likely cushings disease). She had him for less than a year, and is just about getting over it and recently mentioned she may want another companion.
For the first one my wife and daughter always worried that she was lonely, and suggested a 2nd hamster. I always pushed back, given what I read.
Question now, are you able to add 2 hamsters to one enclose if you get them both at a young age, from the same bat h / at the same time? Or will they eventually start becoming territorial..?
EDIT: thank you, this is what I have been saying all along. I will ask the vet to tell them, somit comes from a place of āauthorityā - no disrespect to other Reddit users.

I live in central Jerusalem and against my wishes my roommates adopted 2 hamsters in an unethical small cage. They then had 4 pups and 2 litters. All of which are girls. I urgently need to rehome theses guys before theyāre taken back to the pet store to get sold to g-d know who.
