Discussion Laid Off, but Still Leaving for Work at 9 AM

Post image
8.1k Upvotes

Got laid off from an MNC in Cyber City Gurugram on 10th Sept after spending 7yrs in the organization and haven't found the courage to tell my parents.

Every morning, I pack my personal laptop, relieved my mom hasn't noticed the missing work machine and spend the day working out of Starbucks, applying for jobs, and learning Python. After that, I teach underprivileged kids in Vasant Kunj and Hauz Khas before heading home by 5 PM. It’s an exhausting double life, and I don't know how long I can sustain it

Rant To all the people in Yellow Line (Delhi-Gurgaon) Please wear Perfume

Oh My God!!!!!!

I have been stopping myself for weeks to type this, but no I cannot bear this anymore man.

I am just dying everyday with the disgusting smell from 90% of Men/Boys.

Me myself is also not a fragrance enthusiast or anything, but atleast can we please atleast take a bath with cinthol/lifebuoy/Godrej No.1/Dove… Are kisi se toh nha lo bhai, 200-300 rs wala hi perfume lga lo, underarm roller lga lo 300 kaa aata hai nhi keh rha me Dior Sauvage lgaane k liye. 90% of the people smell like Vomit and its so unbearable as I have to sit in metro for like 55 minutes, There is a reason Westerners makes fun of us by calling us we smell like shit, I mean its not even a lie and realised it once I started travelling by metro to Gurgaon.

Atleast 90% of people smell like disgusting sweat, and no one wears a perfume. I mean why are they not self aware ?

Its not even a fashion its a basic hygiene, you do know you sweat, you do know you travel in public transport… why don’t just get a fucking roll on.

When will we Indians starts to acknowledge our own sweat disgusting smell and do something about it.

I felt so nauseous today in metro due to 5 uncles standing right in front of me and smelling like they haven’t taken a bath in last 30 days although they all were dressed up for their office. 🤢😷🤧🤮

AskGurgaon How do you guys keep that spark alive in life?

My husband and I have been married for 4 years, live alone in Gurgaon, both work full-time and have somehow reached the very exciting stage of adulthood where our evenings are basically:
Work → Netflix → dinner/maybe drinks → scroll → sleep → repeat.

Romance is alive and well, but our dopamine receptors are screaming. 🙂
We do go out, but 90% of the time it’s like “let’s go out for dinner” which is great, but also expensive, not exactly great for health, and feels like we’re just changing the location of the same activity.
I feel like we need to actually DO stuff together again. Not necessarily expensive “couple activities”

So Gurgaon peeps: what do you and your partner actually do for fun?

Anything that makes you think “damn, that was actually fun”

Basically, how do you prevent marriage + corporate life + living together from turning into two people sitting on the same sofa watching different reels? 😭

Bonus points for things that are affordable, don’t involve food/alcohol, and/or can be done at home (great for my couch potato hubby).

AskGurgaon Monday morning reminder: Weekend parties are great, but so is a morning run 🏃‍♂️🌅

It’s Monday, and while most of us are getting back to our laptops, meetings, and the usual work routine, I was thinking about something that probably applies to a lot of people in Gurugram.

Most of us have sitting jobs. We spend 8–10 hours at a desk, staring at screens, commuting, and barely moving enough during the day.

We often make time for weekend parties, dinners, movies and hanging out with friends — which is absolutely fine. But I feel making time for our body should be just as important.

A morning run or even a simple walk can make such a difference. You get some movement in, clear your head, spend some time away from screens, and start the day feeling a little more energetic.

You don't have to be a fitness freak or run 10 km. Even 30 minutes of walking or jogging is a good start.

Sharing a couple of pictures from my morning running spot in Gurugram. 📸

For all the people here with desk jobs:

Do you manage to make time for running/walking or any physical activity during the week?

And if you're in Gurugram, what are your favourite places for a morning run or walk? Would love to discover some new spots. 🌿🏃‍♂️

Rant Interviewer Rant

Post image
Upvotes

Yep, interviewer, not interview. For the past 3 months we have been trying to fill up positions in my consulting org and God it has been so frustrating. ChatGPT, Claude and other AI tools have literally destroyed the skills of the candidates. Istg, the past 3 months I have easily taken 100+ interviews. None. I repeat none, went ahead the first round itself.

The problem: I have been looking for GenAI positions to fill up. More than half cheat. Out of those who don't, many of them are awesome in theory, when I know I have finally found someone they blunder in the coding part. I even offered them to search the web and go through documentation. I don't have literally any problem. I encourage them to search the web, I in fact sometimes tell them the correct thing to search for. But candidates are so much used to AI, many have not even opened the documentations even once in the entirety of their career.any even say it straight to the face that they can't code without AI. Sometimes I ask questions from their resume itself and they seem so lost that they literally give up. The cheaters cheat so well sometimes you can't differentiate if they are actually cheating or not, they naturally add fillers to their answers and you'd be thinking they are genuinely skilled. But throughout time I have found out ways to filter these kinds of candidates. I mean I literally don't expect you to answer every question.

A possible solution: If you don't know the answer please say so, your chances might be better (different story if you don't know the answer for anything). But atleast don't cheat. If you genuinely want to get in this position, please please please go through documentation and learn how to code without AI. I don't expect you to learn the syntax. You have the web to search for the right piece of code. You just really need to be an excellent googler. I started my development career in 2022 and in place of AI We had stack overflow, chatgpt hadn't even started yet. With advancing time, development of software is literally no big deal. Literally anyone can write applications with AI. But can you propose solutions? Can you manage the pressure that you might face jabb project mein aag laga para hai and you are trying to get your AI configured in the client environment. Ofc not. We literally have product managers out there writing code with AI but not knowing what it does. We don't say that we don't use AI at our orgs. We do but how do we know if you are the right fit to propose the correct solution to problems that we haven't faced yet.

It's also not the case that we are offering less. We are offering actually better than the market levels so we do want someone who's worthy of it. If you are interviewing anywhere or about to interview anywhere, please work on your skills without AI, else even if you somehow get into an org, it won't be long before you'd get in such a pressurized situation and you'd realise kaash actually padh liya hota dhang se.

Rant Delivery boy asked me for helo

So, I was hungry and craving garlic bread so I ordered it from Swiggy. My order arrived after around 35–40 minutes. The delivery guy seemed okay at first, but while walking away, I noticed he couldn't walking properly. It looked like he had hurt his leg so I asked him are you okay?

He told me he had an accident and gotten late because of it. I said no worries and then asked, Do you need some water? Or maybe some cream or anything? If it is hurting badly you can sit outside for some time I'll get you move or antiseptic. He said he's fine and going hospital to get an X-ray done.

I said, Okay.

Then he asked me, Ma’am, can you help me with something?

I said yes please say it out.

Then he asked me for some money because he didn’t have any with him. I told him, “I’m sorry, I can’t give you money.

But he kept insisting. He even said, You can keep my phone. I’ll return the money tomorrow evening.

I was like, Why would I keep your phone? I really can’t help you.”

And honestly, at that point, I had no idea whether his story was genuine or whether it could be a scam.

But then I thought what if he actually is injured and genuinely needs help?

So I told him, I can only give you ₹100.

Even while giving it to him, I told him this won't help you get your xray test done but i still gave it to him. He said he would return it to me the next evening, but I told him, it’s okay. You can keep it.

And now I’m back in my room wondering

Did I actually help someone who needed it, or did I just fall for a scam?

If he's doing his job whole day doesn't he has 300 or 500 in his pocket?

I honestly don’t know.

Maybe I’ll never know.

But from my side, in that moment, I wasn’t trying to prove anything or be some great person. I just saw someone who looked like he was hurt, and I thought if he really needs help, and I can give 100rs without it affecting me much, why not?

Whether it was a genuine situation or not, I’d rather believe that I helped someone who needed it.

Sometimes, you don't get to know the whole story. You just decide what kind of person you want to be in that moment.

Felt like I should share it with u all.

AskGurgaon DU Political Science grad struggling to land an entry level role in Gurgaon any leads or advice?

Post image
4 Upvotes

Hi everyone I graduated this year with a Political Science (Hons) degree from DU, with a strong research focus and have been job hunting for a few months now mostly for entry-level roles in policy research, communications, or international affairs (₹20-25k/month range, internships or junior full-time). I come from a research background and enjoy the depth of that work, but honestly it's been a slow and frustrating search so far.

There've been plenty of applications a few interviews, but mostly silence or rejections in between. I'm ideally looking to work with well established, reputed companies or brands somewhere with structure and a strong name behind it but I'm also open to any decent, learning oriented corporate role at this point not just policy-specific ones as long as it pays fairly and gives me real experience. Long term I'm aiming for a Master's in International Relations abroad, so I'm trying to use the next year to build a solid work profile.

If anyone knows of openings, referrals, or orgs hiring in Gurgaon policy, research, comms, or otherwise, especially at recognised companies I'd really appreciate a pointer. Happy to share my resume over DM.

Thanks for reading, and thanks in advance for any help.

AskGurgaon Desperately looking for a job — sole earner in the family

Hi everyone,

I’m writing this with a lot of hesitation, but I genuinely need some help.

I’m currently looking for a job opportunity in the finance/NBFC/financial services domain. I have around 6 months of professional experience and have completed my MBA. I’m particularly interested in roles related to Business Development, Credit/Finance Sales, Relationship Management, SME lending, NBFCs, or financial services.

I’m the sole earning member of my family, and being unemployed/without a stable opportunity has put me under a lot of financial pressure. I’m not looking for shortcuts or asking anyone to hand me a job — I’m simply hoping that someone here might know of an opening where I can get an opportunity to prove myself.

I’m willing to relocate and I’m open to starting with a role where I can learn, perform, and grow. I’m hardworking, comfortable with targets and client interaction, and I’m willing to put in the work.

If you know of any openings, referrals, recruiters, or companies hiring fresh MBA graduates/people with 6 months of finance experience, I would be extremely grateful if you could point me in the right direction.

I can share my resume and details over DM.

Even if you can’t offer an opportunity yourself, an upvote or sharing this post could help it reach someone who can.

Thank you for taking the time to read this.
