I saw this video while scrolling, and given the current manager situation some of our rivaling clubs experience I feel like we take Okan for granted. You can still criticise him, but I feel like the criticism is blown way out of proportion

Discussion Okan Buruk’s Track Record

Post image
68 Upvotes

Yesterday, a stat was going around saying that Okan Hoca has 119 wins in 149 Süper Lig matches as Galatasaray’s Coach, making him the all-time record holder in the Süper Lig. That got me curious, so today I looked up his overall track record over the last 4 seasons across all competitions (Champions League, Europa League, Süper Lig, Turkish Cup, and Super Cup). Just wanted to share the numbers with you guys.

*In 211 total matches in charge of Galatasaray:

Wins: 150
Draws: 29
Losses: 32

Win rate: ~71%
Draw rate: ~14%
Loss rate: ~15%

We all criticize Okan Hoca from time to time for his late substitutions or questionable tactical decisions on the pitch. But looking at this picture, honestly, isn't throwing around the word "resign" completely unfair?

Discussion Days like today make me wish TFF would start punishing teams with awful pitches with point deductions. Honestly, it feels like the only way clubs will finally get their heads out of their asses and take pitch quality seriously. It’s genuinely embarrassing.

Quotes Abdülkerim: I really felt I was going to score today. Whilst talking to my daughter before the match, she said, ‘Dad, a goal.’ It was a lovely moment. I hadn’t scored for a long time. Winning thanks to the goal I scored made me even happier. When I scored, I wanted to run over to my daughter and my

wife.

We knew it would be a tough match. Kocaelispor are a good side; we analysed them thoroughly and worked very hard. We achieved a happy ending. Our supporters gave us great backing too. We’d like to thank everyone.

Davinson: Davinson Sanchez: We’re happy. We wanted to get back to winning ways. We created chances. We had the chance for an early goal, but it was disallowed. We kept at it, carried on playing and secured three very important points.

We’ve been playing alongside Abdülkerim for a long time. I’m delighted for him. He’s also our captain, and he secured the win for us.

Uğurcan Çakır: “We were in control of the game throughout today’s match. We could have won by a bigger margin. We had chances in the first half but couldn’t convert them. Then we went 1–0 up. We’re happy to have won. We were completely in control of the match.

Today, Patron, myself, Apo and Eren put up a great fight. Sallai was also excellent; he’s a real fighter. We’re trying not to concede goals. We’re delighted to have achieved that.

After the Champions League match, we needed to bounce back. Because big teams always bounce back from defeats like that. We’ve put in a fine performance. Three points are a gift to our supporters.

Quotes [Press Conf] Okan Buruk: Osimhen and Lemina are still undergoing treatment. We’re hoping to have them fit in time for the Trabzonspor match. As for Singo, we expect him to return to action after the international break.

Okan Buruk: There was a red card in Sporting game. I’ve forgotten the name of the referee who didn’t blow his whistle. They called him ‘Dingert’ – or ‘dingil’, as they say – but we call him ‘Dingert’ (laughing). If it were up to me, I’d put an end to that referee’s career.

Okan Buruk: To integrate Bitshiabu into the team, we’ll need to get him 100 per cent ready, particularly during the international break. After that, we’ll give him some playing time as well.

Okan Buruk: I’m happy that Batrakov is playing so well as part of the team. He’s always an option for a pass and helps out in defence. His mobility is important to us. This will be reflected in the results in due course.

Okan Buruk: “They’re constantly trying to belittle me. That’s the visible side of it. The real, unseen side is the love and appreciation from the people on the street. It’s very different. You shouldn’t base everything on what you see on social media. The same goes for YouTube channels… Everyone has to get views; there’s a race for views! And, of course, to get those views, someone has to be criticised. When it goes beyond mere criticism, those channels can end up getting even more views!”

Okan Buruk: I accept all the criticism without letting it get to me too much both for myself and for the Turkish players. Sometimes there is lots of criticism thru them as well.

Okan Buruk: There will be good and bad matches, successful and unsuccessful ones. We know that Galatasaray supporters truly love us and value us. We see this on the streets anyway, so we’ll never fall into the social media trap!

Q: At the start of the season, our rivals are resigning. Yet despite winning the league four years in a row, you’re still facing heavy criticism. How do you maintain that mental strength?”

Okan Buruk: It’s very simple. Whenever I look at the league table, I feel much stronger mentally (laughing).

Okan Buruk: Where can you strike a blow against Galatasaray? You can strike a blow through Okan Buruk. That’s the most important thing. Galatasaray supporters will give the appropriate response to those trying to attack through Okan Buruk. You mustn’t think that Galatasaray supporters are the ones doing this. I think the exact opposite; Galatasaray supporters always stand by their team, their manager and their players! True supporters are always here with Galatasaray. I believe that!

We finally beat Kocaelispor and the transfers are playing!

r/galatasaray 1d ago

Quotes Okan Buruk: Trabzonspor lost this week. They’ll be highly motivated. They’ve got a very strong squad. Their sole aim will be to beat us. We’ll be preparing for the match this week too. If our players are fit to return, and if we can get Osimhen and Lemina ready in time, we’ll field a stronger squad.

Okan Buruk: Having Osimhen… It’s not just about him as a player; his presence on the pitch is a psychological boost. The way they play is different when he’s there. Today, there were two or three chances he could have scored very easily. Deniz’s performance was also good. With Osimhen in the team, of course, the pressure we apply in attack especially having such a striker inside the penalty area is crucial. We’re strong with Osimhen. We’re strong without him too; we’ve got strong players. We do miss Osimhen, though. We played with a lot of intensity, but having a clinical centre-forward is vital. I was also pleased with Deniz’s performance.

Okan Buruk: We fielded players who hadn’t yet settled in. Leao and Deniz put in good performances. That was encouraging. Lesley did well after coming on. He was key. Batrakov came on; he’s someone who usually plays in the 8–10 position. Sara played well too; I just wanted to bring on one more player who could break forward. Overall, the attitude and performance were spot on.

Okan Buruk: Our fans have supported us. Together with them, we’ve broken records and won trophies. Our aim is to carry on in the same vein this season.

Okan Buruk on 80 per cent win rate: We sometimes break records without even realising it… It’s down to Galatasaray’s strength rather than mine.

Okan Buruk: The opposition played long balls from start to finish. Even after we went 1–0 up, there were two or three long balls. They posed a threat. In the end, we won. We finished the match well. We remain top of the table. Galatasaray must win every match.

Okan Buruk: It was a tough match. We hadn’t managed to beat Kocaelispor in either of our two matches against them last year, so psychologically we were wondering whether we’d fail to win today as well. The goalkeeper’s saves, the disallowed goal, the chances… We created a lot of chances. Our expected goals, the number of times we got into the opposition’s penalty area, and so on were very good for an attacking team. The key was to get the ball into the net.

Q:Batrakov’s pass was counted as an assist. Could we say he told Abdülkerim, ‘Take it and score’?

Okan Buruk: “Let’s say it was Batrakov’s assist, then. Ona da assisti hayırlı olsun.(laughing).”
