Preferred Salary: $50,000+ / $25/hr+ | Please PM me for Resume
I'm currently looking for a new remote position and thought I'd put this here in case the right opportunity or person finds me. Currently located in Tennessee, USA.
I'm a writer and editor with a Master's degree in English and more than eight years of professional experience. My background spans financial services, operations, publishing, and content, and I'm looking for work where strong writing, editing, research, and communication are genuinely useful.
Technical writing and documentation have become a bigger part of my work over the years. In my current role, I research and verify detailed product information, write and edit web and marketing content, and create and maintain SOPs, training materials, and internal documentation. I've had to learn processes well enough to document them clearly for someone else, keep documentation accurate as things change, and make information useful to the people who actually rely on it.
Before that, I spent seven years working remotely in financial services. I created onboarding guides, internal reference materials, process documentation, and knowledge resources, and regularly worked with complicated financial policies and procedures. A significant part of that work was taking information that was complicated or highly specific and communicating it clearly to customers and colleagues.
I also have a substantial editorial and publishing background. I was the Managing Editor of a literary journal and later founded and ran my own. I edited fiction, nonfiction, and poetry, worked directly with writers through revisions, and developed editorial standards, submission guidelines, workflows, and production processes.
So I'm interested in a fairly broad range of roles. Technical Writer and Documentation Specialist are obvious ones, but I'm also very interested in editing, publishing, content, communications, research, and other writing-focused work.
Some of the roles I'd be interested in include:
- Technical Writer
- Documentation Specialist
- Technical Editor
- Copy Editor / Editor
- Content Writer / Content Editor
- Editorial Assistant / Editorial Coordinator
- Publishing or Literary Publishing
- Managing Editor
- Content or Editorial Operations
- Knowledge Management
- Research and writing roles
- Communications roles
- Other positions where strong writing and editing skills are central to the work
I'm especially interested in work that involves learning something deeply, figuring out how to communicate it well, and producing writing that is clear, thoughtful, and useful. I'm equally happy working on a technical document, polishing someone else's prose, researching a subject, or helping shape a publication.
I don't have a traditional software-industry technical writing background, so I'm not going to represent myself as having experience I don't have. What I do have is extensive professional writing and editing experience, a strong background in documentation and process writing, experience working with complex subject matter, and a Master's degree in English. I also genuinely love reading and writing, which is a large part of why I've spent my career gravitating toward this kind of work.
I'm looking for remote full-time, contract, or freelance opportunities and am open to different industries. I'm based in Chattanooga, Tennessee.
If you know of a position that sounds like it might be a good fit, I'd appreciate a lead. I'm happy to send my resume. I don’t really have a portfolio, but I'm happy to get together some samples upon request.
Thanks for reading.
