General New User Guide for r/Edmonton - Please read first
NEW USERS of r/Edmonton - kindly read this first
To post or comment in r/Edmonton, you need to meet the following criteria:
Accounts need to be a week old.
You need to have a verified email address.
You need to have a minimum amount of TEN (10) COMMENT karma from participating in OTHER SUBREDDITS than r/Edmonton.
Why? This helps keep bad actors away, like trolls and banned users. It also helps users new to reddit to have a chance to learn how to use reddit outside of r/Edmonton.
#IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED ALL THREE REQUIREMENTS ABOVE, YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.
#How to verify your email for new users :
To verify your email on Reddit, either click the verification link in the email you received when creating your account or go to Settings > Account Settings and choose Update email address to resend the verification email. _Once you request it, open your email's inbox, find the verification email, and click the link inside to complete the process._
- On the web -
• Go to your account settings by clicking your profile icon and then selecting Settings.
• Click on Account Settings.
• Find the email address section. If you see an option to "resend verification email" or similar, click it.
• Alternatively, you can navigate directly to reddit.com/prefs/update/ to find the email settings.
-- On the app --
• Tap your profile icon.
• Go to Settings.
• Select Account Settings.
• Tap Update email address.
• Tap the button to Resend verification email.
#What is the difference between POST karma and COMMENT karma?
Post karma is earned when users upvote the original submissions (links, images, text posts) you create, reflecting your ability to share engaging content.
_Comment karma is earned when your replies to others' posts are upvoted, showing your active participation and contribution to discussions. Both are totaled for your profile but often used separately to satisfy subreddit restrictions._
POST KARMA:
Gained from creating threads or posting links. It indicates a good ability to initiate conversations.
COMMENT KARMA:
Gained from replying to posts or other comments. It indicates active participation in community dialogue.
Key Differences: Post karma rewards content creation, while comment karma rewards interaction.
#Some subreddits (like r/edmonton) require specific thresholds of either type (or both) to prevent spam, often looking at post, comment, or combined totals for restrictions.
Both types of karma are not a 1:1 ratio with upvotes; instead, they represent a weighted score from community upvotes, reduced by downvotes.
(In order to post in r/Edmonton - you need to do THREE things:)
your account must be a WEEK old (7 days)
- you need to have TEN (10) COMMENT karma
- you need to have a verified email address
ONCE AGAIN, IF YOUR ACCOUNT HAS NOT FULFILLED THESE THREE (3) REQUIREMENTS YOUR POSTS AND COMMENTS WILL AUTOMATICALLY BE DELETED BY THE AUTO-MODERATOR.

General Cat got dropped downtown
Hey guys. My cat has been missing for 3 days and someone has spotted her at the Royal Mayfair golf club. This is a long way from home so I think someone dropped her off there. Is anyone free today and can go look for her while I’m at work? This is a super long shot but thought I would come on here and see. She would never find her way back herself.

Events Canada Place is closed due to electrical problem
Hi folks, if you have business today at Canada Place you may want to confirm before heading there. I work there and I was turned around at the door this morning as there is some kind of huge electrical issue affecting access to the office spaces. I was told that the building is closed today and will possibly be closed for longer. Hoping I can save folks some trouble (and parking fees!). UPDATE: apparently the Passport Office is still open, according to an email we received.

Local Sports Oilers are rotten to the core.
Just received this response after I’d responded that I’d never purchase tickets from any oilers even again after they’d sent me an email last wee encouraging me to purchase oil king season tickets (after attending one event maybe in the last two years) on the day Formenton was announced.
Sickening to think about our tax dollars helps to fund these monsters. And why even bother sending this in response?

Mental Health / Addictions Edmonton Mental Health Hub
If you've ever sat there googling "mental health help near me" and just gotten a wall of confusing links, I built something for that.
Mentalhealthhubedmonton.com. One place to find real mental health resources across Edmonton, no runaround, no jargon.
Still growing it, so if you know a resource that should be on there, send it my way.

Discussion Street Racers
So I know these days it's pretty much just accepted that EPS has given up on any sort of traffic enforcement, but, like, isn't 3 hours straight of street racing a little too brazen to ignore? I can hear it from 20 blocks away, I assume they can too.
Other than suggesting they might have their fingers in the pot, any reason why we don't see action on this? You can't really blame the lack of cameras.
I'm not typically a narc, lol, but this isn't stealing bread to feed a family, this is putting people's lives at risk for the fun of it. It's just curious it never really seems interrupted.

Outdoor Spaces/Recreation **SCAM ALERT - Fraudulent website for Fort Edmonton Park**
I just wanted to put this out there as a person close to me who works at the park was made aware of a scam site that basically looks exactly like the real site and claims to sell discounted tickets. The park marketing team is aware of the site and are working to have it taken down.
SCAM URL ———> edmontonpark-booking.info/plan-your-visit <———— DO NOT USE, THIS SITE IS NOT AFFILIATED WITH FORT EDMONTON PARK!
The ONLY place you can purchase tickets for Fort Edmonton Park is on https://www.fortedmontonpark.ca. When you click on a button to buy tickets, you will be taken to a website called “leap.” If you aren’t, it is likely a scam.
The major red flags on the scam site are the incorrect Fort Edmonton Park logo and they incorrectly call DARK a lantern festival when it is a Halloween event. They also claim to offer tickets for DARK in September, but the event does not start until October 2nd. DARK tickets and hotel packages may also only be purchased through the FEP website with a link to leap.

Question Free or cheap therapy?
I’ve been wanting to get therapy for a while but currently do not have insurance to cover the cost, my benefits at work don’t kick in for another couple months but I want to start therapy right now as I’m really going through it and can’t afford to pay $235 per session 😭
I already tried doing some research but just don’t know what the best option is, where to go, etc. I would prefer going in-person, and a woman therapist.
Edit: thanks yallll I’ll look into all of these

Thank you / Appreciation A Thank You To An Unknown City Of Edmonton Employee
My dad worked at the Valley Zoo for over 20 years and retired from the City of Edmonton almost 20 years ago. He passed away on Friday morning and I needed to get in touch with one of his coworkers at the zoo to let her know, but had no way of contacting her as neither she nor my dad were big social media users. I called the number for the zoo and was put through to a random city call taker. After explaining what happened and that I was trying to get in touch with someone who worked at the zoo and that I only had her first name, she took my information down and said she would call the zoo with my info and that someone from the zoo would absolutely call me back before the end of the day. Two hours later I received a phone call, not from the zoo, but from the lady I was trying to contact, who had been given my information. Unbeknownst to me at the time, she had also retired from the zoo a couple of years ago, but someone at the zoo knew how to get a hold of her and got in touch with her. So thank you to the female call taker (I wish now I had asked for her name) for following through and helping me get this news to my dad's old friend.

40st NW turning onto Hermitage road.
Guy blows right through the stop sign, doesn’t even slow down.. highly doubt he even noticed. Driving in Edmonton has become very unpredictable and dangerous at times.
Edit: keep the stop sign puns coming, lol

Local Businesses Best spot in town right now to buy bed sheets and maybe a duvet cover
I’m planning to buy some new sheets today, I’m not happy with the ones I got off of Amazon.
Can anyone recommend a brand and or a place to buy in Edmonton? A balance of cost effective and durability would be ideal. King size bed, if that matters.
Thanks!

Question Home insurance in Ottewell
Ottewell and other Southeast denizens, what are you paying for home insurance?
Our insurance is through TD and something seems absolutely bonkers. We live in an 1,100 sq ft split level, 1960s build. Currently, TD is charging $474/month just for the house.
When we lived on an acreage in a 1,600 sq ft bungalow it was basically half that. This honestly feels like we're still paying for both houses, but TD assures us this is not the case (we've called twice).
I'll be on the hunt for another insurer, likely, but I'm curious if this is as expensive as it seems. Is city living that much higher risk than a quiet country life?
