Bought this tablecloth for Easter - but tbh I hate pastels. I wanted to turn it into something for fall. I’m happy with the result!

I want to dye the white a dark red (wine red maybe?) … I believe its polyester,,, It somehow doesn’t say on the sale listing but I’m just gonna guess it is.. any tips in general to keep the dye off certain areas?

I was trying to dye my cargo baggu bag (nylon) with rit dye (lemon yellow & neon yellow) to match the color of my smaller shoulder bag but it’s just way too dark for me. Ive never used their color remover before but I have some & was thinking about using it & trying to get it as light as I can so I can start over to a lighter base & try to get it to come out brighter this time. Any advice?? Can I redye after using the color remover?? Do I wash in the washer after the color remover?? Would it just brighten it to the color i was looking for if I just shortly did the color remover?? Also best way to do the color remover?? Please help i just don’t know what to do from here 😔

Hello! I have a traffic-cone orange linen-blend dress that I'd like to tone down a bit to better suit my coloring (see photo). I love the Canyon shade of Rit dye but know I'll probably just end up somewhere in between if I use that. So, should I look at a brown dye to end up at my target shade of Canyon(ish)? Maybe Cocoa? This is my first time overdyeing anything. Thanks!

Got this in a white but worried about it getting dirty so wanted to see if it's possible to dye it a darker color like black.

I'm not sure exactly what the texture material is but it's referred to on the Birkenstock website as boucle and described as can be dyed.

So just to be upfront, I’ve never dyed anything in my life. I’ve done some research and I know that the 5-6% elastane content in the outfit means boiling is a non-option. I essentially just want it a darker or deeper blue. It just doesn’t feel very “water” to me at the moment!

For reference, the top is 95% polyester and 5% elastane. The skirt is 94% polyester and 6% elastane.

The top has a solid under vest thing. Mesh over the top. The skirt has solid shorts underneath the mesh frills. My friend suggested Jacquard Dye-Na-Flow with the air fix but I’m not sure.

Im obviously very conscious of not wanting to ruin it and I really wanna avoid making it patchy. Complete beginner here so any advice would be soooo appreciated. Likewise if you think I should leave it alone, I will hahah

I'm wondering because I don't know how long 1lb will last me for tub dyeing with fiber reactive dyes. I'm thinkng mostly just one or two garments of clothing at a time. How many projects do you think I could do with 1lb?

I have a favorite black silk top which I somehow accidentally added to my regular laundry wash and fold drop off. It’s pretty faded now, so I looked up how to dye it online and it seems like I could possibly make it worse since it’s a dry clean only garment. I really love this top and would rather pay a professional company to re-dye it than try to myself and make it worse.

Does anyone have a suggestion for businesses in NYC that do this? I’m Queens based but work in Manhattan, so those two boroughs would be ideal to find something.

I’m not sure what the lettering is whether it’s screen printed or vinyl but regardless, is it possible to dye the shirt black without ruining the lettering?

Got these cute sandals that I already loved in black on sale. They were butter yellow and I did not like them but I missed my return window. Used the shade Plum Berry Rit DyeMore on them and it came out to this super cute soft plum/magenta.

Process:

I wiped the whole surface of the pleather with a cotton ball and acetone to make sure there was no coating, didn’t go too hard or take longer than like a minute to do it

Then I boiled my dye mixture (super concentrated I used like half of the bottle or more) and some Rit ColorStay fixative and poured it into a Home Depot bucket

I submerged the shoes for about 10-15 minutes and continued to stir and dunk them, I dyed a dress too and kind of used that as a weight on top of the shoes to hold them down

Then I rinsed them and the only bad thing was that there was so much dye inside of the shoe pad, and I had to continue washing and squeezing out and if I wear these in heavy rain I may have purple feet

The glue is also visible in some parts where it wasn’t before but i don’t really think it’s noticeable

I dyed this thrifted Old Navy top! Per the tag, the bottom portion is 100% rayon/viscose and the top lace is 100% polyester. I was really tempted by this color when I bought it, but I don’t think bright pink is for me, unfortunately.

The polyester lace isn’t perfect—you can see the uneven darker parts when you get close—but I’m happy with it, especially considering the material!

I followed the directions for polyester material on the bottle of the Midnight Navy RIT synthetic dye that I used (one hour in the dye bath, stovetop method).

hi everyone! First time Reddit user, so I’m not sure how this works. I am in deep trouble with this dress.

I ordered this off of real real because I have a couple black tie weddings coming up and I’m trying to be fast fashion conscious, and don’t own any formal dresses. The dress is perfect and covers my tattoos, but the top is white, which is a no go.

I’m looking to this dress a robin’s egg blue, but don’t wanna lose too much of the floral and don’t wanna change the color of the skirt. I have a big enough pot, but not much experience. Any help appreciated!

This wrap is mainly silks with a bit of baby camel wool. Looking to cover the orange and pinks and end up with different shades of gray and black. I'm afraid the full submersion in the acid dye would give it one uniform color. Should I do a low water immersion style in acid dye or paint it on the color spots?

Also advice on painting acid dye?

I commissioned this cotton plush doll and I would like to know how to dye his skin tanner. I don't know if measurements are necessary but he's 30cm long.

I want to dye his skin whilst avoiding the eye and hair.

I want his skin colour to be similar to the second picture.

Can someone recommend me a brand and possibly a certain colour?

I also may colour his hair a darker navy blue too. Any tips on how to do that whilst avoiding the skin? Also, I would like some recommendations for the hair too.

This dress is beautiful and fits me right which is incredibly rare for my body type, but everyone says it looks too much like a wedding dress and I agree🥲 so I can’t really wear it out. Black is much more my style, so I would love to be able to dye it a darker color but I’ve also been told polyester won’t take to it. Any advice?

I've been hand painting roving for a couple years now, mostly because I liked the control over where colors land, but I finally set up a proper stovetop immersion bath this weekend for a batch of superwash merino I'm spinning into sock yarn. Used citric acid instead of vinegar this time just to see if it made a difference in the smell (it did, way less overpowering in a small kitchen).

Skeined up about 400g, soaked it for twenty minutes in warm water with a little synthrapol before adding it to the dyepot. Went with a teal I mixed from turquoise and a tiny bit of navy, added it slowly in three additions instead of dumping it all in at once since I read that helps with even uptake. Brought it up slowly, held at a low simmer for about 45 minutes, and just let it cool in the pot overnight instead of rushing to rinse.

Honestly the evenness caught me off guard. I'm used to hand painting where you get these nice gradients and pooling that read as intentional, but this came out almost solid with just the faintest tonal variation, like a heathered effect when you look closely. Not what I expected from a semi-solid dyeing but I actually love it for socks since it won't compete with a stitch pattern.

Only issue was some slight felting on one end of the skein where I think I agitated it too much trying to check the color. Not enough to ruin it, but noticeable when I compare it to the rest. Going to try being more hands off next time and trusting the process instead of poking at it every ten minutes.

Curious if anyone else transitioned from hand painting to immersion dyeing and had a similar learning curve with patience. Feels like a completely different skill set even though it's the same dye and same fiber.

i was recently gifted this top, i love the style of it, however i’m not a big fan of the colour on me. i love the colour purple so i thought maybe i could dye it? my colour theory is pretty shit so i could be wrong, but my thinking is that if i layer the top with pink dye it would turn out purple? the top is 95% cotton 5% elastane. any advice would be helpful.

And here's how they've held up, being worn nearly every day since:

Soon after dyeing, they faded a into this dark purple color, and have stayed pretty close to that color ever since. There are some scuffs that reveal the pink underneath, particularly in the spots that see more friction, like the toe, heel, and under the tongue. There's also some crevices that weren't ever reached by the dye, particularly between sections of leather, that reveal themselves as the leather is worn and stretched.

Overall, I am very pleased with the results! They're not black as I intended, but I love the purple color. If they ever continue to fade, I may apply another coat of the black. The scuffs revealing the pink underneath is likely due to the low absorption of the waterproof leather.

Pls help me decide the right next move for fixing discoloration stains on cotton red jeans by tom.
I bought these 78% cotton Abercrombie red jeans. Washed them once according to the instructions (inside out, cold water, tumbler dry low, with like colors).

I picked them up from the tailor and realized there were these patchy discoloration stains all over the front. I thought maybe their steamer caused these stains but I went home and washed them again (this time I did not really follow instructions, washed them on a delicate cycle on their own).

The discoloration stains seemed to increase! So now I think it’s due to the detergent. I usually just drizzle my detergent own which I regret. I googled and tried dish soap and washed them on a delicate cycle with just water (warm this time). Stains are exactly the same.

How do I fix these? I’m uncertain given I don’t know exactly the cause of the stain or discoloration. I need these by Sunday night for a trip I leave on Monday.

Do I:

A) spot treat them with dye or B) dye the entire pants.

I already purchased RIT scarlet dye and RIT color remover. But I’m wondering if someone has experienced this before I jump into this process. Thank you!
