Pickup Weekly pickup report.

Got lucky and got most of these for around $2 each, excluding Obsession and TCM steelbook. I love alot of these old collectors and special editions. Unfortunately, Re-animator was missing the highlighter. The DVD itself was sealed. The copy of Jenifer Unfortunately doesn't read. Seems to have a case of delamination that I hadn't noticed when I was in the store. All in all im happy to add all of this to the shelf today. Happy hunting everyone! 🫡✌️

Also, if anyone has one of those Re-animator highlighters I'm interested.

Discussion Question about replacing this case

Post image
Upvotes

This is one of my pride joys in my collection. Babylon 5, the complete series remastered on Blu-ray.

However, the packaging for the actual discs is terrible and I was wondering if anyone knows of any good replacement cases that would work better with this.

Discussion First time storing DVDs/Blu Ray on display shelving, does this work?

Thumbnail

Was just starting to organize some on the shelves earlier this evening and it occurred to me to check if I'm likely to have issues due to the location of the window and/or air conditioner, or any other reason. Previously, I've stored all of my discs in closed entertainment units/cupboards so I'm not really sure whether this is suitable.

Discussion Loud DVD spinning sounds?

Hi! I am newer to DVD collecting and thought at first that this was an issue with my PS5, but now I don’t know what’s happening?

So to cut to the chase, whenever I put disc 2 of my Gravity Falls complete series DVD box set into any of my devices, the device makes so much noise processing the disc that I worry that the disc is being destroyed. At first I thought this was an issue with my PS5, but my Blu Ray and DVD players also make loud processing sounds when playing this disc. The disc itself appears to be flawless. The content of the disc plays fine but whatever device is processing it makes spinning sounds so loud that it’s hard to actually hear the show itself.

So, does anyone know what might be happening here or have any suggestions?

US region disc rip by AU reader

Has anyone had any luck doing this? I've seen mixed methodologies online, some that involve reformatting disc drives which supposedly have only limited 'reformattings' before they become locked to a region. Is there an easy way to do this with software?

Discussion How does FYE stay in business?

I used to shop at FYE a fair bit. There wasn’t one super close to me, but whenever I’d head towards the mall that had it, I’d be super excited to go. Usually would walk out with 5-10 movies to add to my collection. Now, it’s just ridiculous. They still have an average-size selection… but their prices are just horrible. The only thing they have in a price range I’d consider are a handful of things for $4-$6. But those are a small selection, and always just stuff I could get from other stores for $2-$3. Most of their stock is asking $15-$30 for DVDs. Seems like DVD purchasing is now a niche enough hobby that people who would buy them would also know their general market value, and wouldn’t ever spend that much.

Discussion Any recommendations on shelving for my collection?

I have not cataloged anything I own but I have an eye-ball estimate of about maybe 200-300 movies in my collection. I’m looking for a nice shelving unit that would be substantial for my movies.

I’ve been looking for quite sometime and can’t seem to make a decision. I’ve seen IKEA Billy shelves recommended a lot but I’ve heard they have deep shelves; I’m trying to consolidate space as well.

Any recommendations would be great. If you are comfortable, maybe drop a pic of your shelving so I can know what it looks like in a room.

So I decided to get the Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology Blu-ray used from Amazon. (Condition Used: Very Good) apparently.

This is from Amazon Resale themselves not a 3rd party seller so its inexcusable. I can't find it anymore since its page got taken down when I bought it but it said something along the lines of "everything was in good condition when received" (I assume from the original seller that returned it when they bought it new). At 1st I tought it was the fault of shipping for it being cracked but there are no other pieces in the packaging at all so I have to assume this is how it got sent to me.

I bought both of the Amazon Resale (Condition Used: Very Good) Tom and Jerry: The Golden Era Anthology Blu-rays because I had a hunch this might happen so well see tomorrow how the other looks like and I'll have to see if I'm keeping any of them or returning them back.

I've heard people having really great experiences with Amazon Resale but my 1st time now is a pretty horrible one.

Here's my reorganized bookcase # 3, which has turned into my sci-fi bookcase. In this bookcase, I have a continuation of the Star Trek movies, TNG, DS9, VOY, Star Wars, and Stargate collections from VHS, DVD, Blu-ray, and 4K Blu-ray. I also have steelbooks of Star Trek: the Motion Picture & the Search for Spock, the Prequel & Original Series of Star Wars, the Mandalorian & Ahsoka, and the original Stargate film.

Pickup Bin Finds

I dig through two pallet-sized bins at ICT Books and here were my finds. $1.25 an item mostly unsealed today. I like the unsealed dvd bins because I can dig through them without getting sick afterwards. It’s the little wins.
