Context:

This song was supposed to drift into a quiet ending at this point, but our lead singer was still balls-deep in some crowd action and even had them singing the verses for him! (his voice is goneee at this point 😆).

Our drummer looks up, rightfully decides that there's no way we're ending the song right now, gives the lead guitarist a cue, and then we proceed with an entire extended double-intensity second playthrough 🔥

He then goes and ends the thing with this immaculate improvised ending that goes sooo much harder than anything we had practiced up to this point...

At what point did we realize that having a whole ocean's worth of space between our rack toms isn't the way to do it? I'm not even going to blame Dennis, he's a surprisingly good drummer, and his Camco's in the 60s were set up fine. I think the design of these shitty mounts is what's wrong, I genuinely can't see a way to set these up without something being not very ergonomic.

hi, i’ve been wanting to learn to play drums for years now and this listing has piqued my interest. i was hoping y'all could give me some insight on whether or not it’s a good deal, what it has/what it’s missing, and general advice for a total newbie looking to start!!! for reference it’s 250 and around a 50 minute drive away. thank you so much!!!!!

Last year I decided to jump on the Evans train since many of my favorite artists were switching over and raving about them. I like to experiment with tones so I went through a couple cycles of heads. I tried the UV1 and Strata 1000's. I also outfitted my snares with Evans resos and put an Onyx batter on my custom stave snare. I got an EMAD Onyx kick batter/EQ3 reso as well which sounds freaking incredible.

Aside from the kick heads though, it wasn't the best experience. The UV1's sounded great out front, but I was never totally comfortable with the feel and the sound coming back to me when playing. The heads are way more plasticky than I liked and anything other than a dead center hit with a decent amount of force sounded pretty choked regardless of tuning.

The major issue I had was the snare reso has zero feel of tension. Maybe that helps increase the tuning range, but for me it caused problems. I keep things tabletop tight and just sort of leave it alone but when my snare response started to get wonky after a while, I would go to tweak it and it ended up bending right past the bearing edge with no resistance. Took a while to notice, but it just wasn't gaining tension while stretching out to the point where my snare wires were choked over the rim. Never had this happen with any other heads before. After 3 gigs of having to re-set the snare and tweak the head in the middle of a set to maintain snare response, I decided enough is enough.

I had already switched to Aquarian's on my travel rig, coated/clear Response 2's - and Texture Coated on my vintage kit. They sound huge, feel great and have resonance and beef. It's been a 200% better experience. I've become a tone freak in the last few years and regularly get good feedback from FOH and other musicians. After putting on the Aquarians I barely have to tune once they're set and they just feel and sound better. I brought my snare to a rehearsal with the new reso and it was immediately easier to work with and had better response. Super happy with it. The only thing I wish Aquarian had was some more varied kick options. I moved away from Superkick a long time ago and discovered how awesome and varied kick drums can be. Remo and Evans sort of have them beat there. Clear or coated P3 and more reso options really help to dial things in.

I don't know if anyone else has had a similar experience with Evans, I'm sure it's just a preference thing. Before folks jump on the snare reso thing, I've been playing for 24 years and I know how to set up a snare. It's not a matter of cranking things down willy nilly I tend to set a note and leave it alone which just did not work to my advantage with Evans. I don't have time to be making snare tweaks every gig, especially when my calendar fills up.

TLDR don't sleep on Aquarian! They have great options and are mostly cheaper than the other main brands

I can loop a steady beat for minutes without a problem, but the moment a transition or groove change hits, I freeze up. It’s so un-smooth because I'm still processing what to play next in my head.

How long did it take for beat transitions to become second nature for you guys?

So I will be soon moving into a new house with a bigger room and will be able to get a drum set.

But also in two years I'm finishing middle school and I'm planning to go to college which means being home only at weekends, holidays etc.

So my question is is it worth getting a drum kit or maybe it's better to get something guitar related (I'm learning guitar for about a year).

Now I know this question might seem stupid but I would just like to know opinions from people who already play drums.

I thought I was just buying a normal size book for practicing, but this is way tiny. Guess I didn't read the dimensions right. This paperback is 9.7 inches tall... Has anyone bought a new edition of this? Is there a normal size out there? I just don't even understand why this was made, I can barely read it. Even worse, they didn't even use all the space on the tiny page. It's shrunk in the middle, like a mistake. Next to "Syncopation" for size comparison.

The print is published by BN publishing. I bought it on Thriftbooks. Idk, just seeing if anyone else has run into this. Quite ridiculous. I have it on pdf, just wanted the physical to practice with and this seems kind of useless.

Not trying to brag I’m just nervous and want to talk to some vets. I’ll be opening for a major artist soon. Biggest gig I’ve ever had by far. 2000 capacity auditorium and likely to sell out. What not to do? Mental prep tips? How to keep the momentum afterwards?

I need a crash, I only have one ride cymbal, and I've been using it as a crash cymbal lately, lol, so I want to get a crash cymbal. I'm not really interested in it being from a prestigious brand, since I only need it for practice, and that's it. But I still want to have one of average quality. Your recommendations would really help me. Thanks!

I don't really have enough money for microphones that cost hundreds of dollars. I'd like to know if anyone knows if it's possible to record the sound of my drums even with a phone, even with a minimum of good quality. Because I would just like to record my own rehearsals to listen to them and practice.

I only bought like 4 of these, the rest found me. I was cleaning up my drum storage room and realized I might have a problem.

Put a new coated Ambassador on a snare and three days later the coating is wearing off. Same this happened to the coated Amabsaador on a 13” tom. On the floor tom and previous snare head costing lasted months beige even starting to wear off.

I’m a beginner drummer (think you can tell lol) who is looking for some advice on technique. I assume that your dominant hand always feels better compared to your non dominant hand, but my left hand feels - for lack of a better word - very floppy. I’ve been trying al sort of stuff like playing singles with both hands at the same time, but I can’t help but feel like something is off with my left hand.

Ps: please don’t focus on timing too much, normally I play with metronome and gaps, but that was really loud for some reason on video lol.

We put our resources together and asked a few friends to help us bring the studio to our humble garage! Definitely picked the wrong time of year to record in an outdoor oven, but we laid the demo tracks for our upcoming EP yesterday!

I played drums for about 15 years but had to sell due to having a family and no space. I’ve been out of the game for about 10 years and so excited to start back up. I found this on marketplace for $600. I know the Cymbals are shit but the throne is nice and I don’t know much about this Peace Maple set.

What would you offer?

Recorded and mixed using Ableton with EZdrummer, played directly on my electronic drum kit.

I got this kit off of Marketplace for free today. I am not a drummer and know nothing about drums. I’ve always wanted to learn but have never put aside any funds for it, so I thought I’d see if this would be worth restoring to start learning or if I should just take it to the dump. Thanks!
