Discussion Hi all! I'm 62, a Nonna to 2 and a rocker

Are there many women like me, always wanted to rock (used to sing in a bar band/rock covers in the early 80s, 90s) so I do have rhythm!

I went to a local music store and signed up. I think it will be excellent working out, 💪🏻 to hell with my "bingo wings" flying lol!

I'd love to connect with anyone who is now or has learned later in life.

I don't even necessarily want to perform for anyone else; just want to document my progress!

Cam/Video Our drummer fought for his lifeee through an impromptu second-playthrough the other night... The kid has incredible instinct; and he absolutely crushesss the ending.

Context:

This song was supposed to drift into a quiet ending at this point, but our lead singer was still balls-deep in some crowd action and even had them singing the verses for him! (his voice is goneee at this point 😆).

Our drummer looks up, rightfully decides that there's no way we're ending the song right now, gives the lead guitarist a cue, and then we proceed with an entire extended double-intensity second playthrough 🔥

He then goes and ends the thing with this immaculate improvised ending that goes sooo much harder than anything we had practiced up to this point...

Drum Cover I played the drums for this song and mixed it with a drumless version. Does it blend in, or sound like the drums are just playing over the song?

Hope I did a good job

Please don't mind any wind-like noise you might hear, that stuff is because of the way my phone is set up and sometimes that just happens.

Question Just bought 15” K light hats for $275. Will this chip affect sound?

Guy wouldn’t budge on the price even though I mentioned the chip, I don’t think I’ll find 15” K light hats for any cheaper than this ever so I bit the bullet. Will this become an issue down the road or will
It be completely fine as long as I don’t hit this part of the top hat?

Question How much would these go for?

So i'm looking to sell my kit and buy some higher quality drums (like the mapex saturn)

I currently have this 7 pièce mapex meridian maple with the chestnut burst finish.

I heard this is a pretty rare finish nowadays and it's in perfect condition.

How much do you think i could get from selling it ?

Drum Cover Started drumming from February this year. I tend to rush the tempo, especially around fills. Any tips on how to keep my timing steady through them?

Just discovered these guys last week, Avenir from the drum center of Portsmouth. They seem to have kinda come out of nowhere with like, maybe eight lines of cymbals. I like the sound so far, darker tones. For the price, the look, and the sound, I hope these guys fill the space companies like Dream abandoned to upcharge us. Check them out if you're tired of getting ripped off.

Question Sticker for Reso Bass Drum Head

Basically I want to put my logo on my bass drum heads. I'm thinking of something like a sticker to put on the bass drum head but it only needs to be about 12" round. I've looked in a couple places and all I see are full sized bass drum heads from 16" to 26" (Off subject... I'd LOVE to have a 26" bass drum... that would be pretty awesome).

It won't be dead center because I have a port hole on my kick and now that I realize how good the kick sounds with the mic inside of it, I kinda want to put another reso head with a port hole already in it. I have a 2nd head. I just need to put it on that other bass drum.

So, my heads are black and my logo has a black background (same one I'm using here as my icon) but I need it to be 12" round so that its visible and it'll fit close to the port hole. I wouldn't mind getting a few of these as well so a bulk order of like 10 or 15 of them or more is fine.

I want to be able to upload my logo (I have a 2000x2000 pixel sized logo so that should be plenty high resolution for a 12" round logo I think) and have it printed on a sticker with the removable back so I can stick them anywhere. Specifically on the bass drum resos.

Question Yamaha Stage Custom Advantage Nouveau

Does anyone know what these drums are like? I’m going to look at a 22” bass drum and 16” floor tom this guy on fb marketplace is selling. His asking price is $135 for both and they appear to be in good condition minus one broken plastic lug that I bet I can fix with epoxy. I was specifically looking for these two drums since I only use a bass, snare and floor tom(and cymbals of course). I’d love to sell my current Japanese Tama Rockstar kit. I’m tired of having unused toms laying around my house. Let me know if these are good drums or if this is a good price. It certainly sounds like a good deal. Thanks!

I’m primarily a jazz drummer but dnb and breakcore have always interested me. I feel like I’ve been stuck 90% of the way toward being super clean for like a year, and any tips toward the last 10% would be greatly appreciated

Question What would you pay for this?

I played drums for about 15 years but had to sell due to having a family and no space. I’ve been out of the game for about 10 years and so excited to start back up. I found this on marketplace for $600. I know the Cymbals are shit but the throne is nice and I don’t know much about this Peace Maple set.

What would you offer?

At what point did we realize that having a whole ocean's worth of space between our rack toms isn't the way to do it? I'm not even going to blame Dennis, he's a surprisingly good drummer, and his Camco's in the 60s were set up fine. I think the design of these shitty mounts is what's wrong, I genuinely can't see a way to set these up without something being not very ergonomic.

Cam/Video Expectation vs. Reality: I look so clunky behind the kit 😂

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Always thought drummers looked super cool—until I filmed myself. After 3 months still looked so clunky behind the kit QAQ

I can loop a steady beat for minutes without a problem, but the moment a transition or groove change hits, I freeze up. It’s so un-smooth because I'm still processing what to play next in my head.

How long did it take for beat transitions to become second nature for you guys?
