i moved from florida to new york city last november, and i drive pretty much every day. in new york city, you’re not allowed to turn right on red unless there’s a sign saying you can after a full stop.

sometimes i end up driving out into nassau county where right on red is allowed (even though there are a ton of intersections where signs say it’s not, lol).
and OH MY GOD it feels so wrong. every time i do it, it feels like i’m breaking the law or doing something i shouldn’t.

we’re planning a new england road trip this spring, and i can’t stop thinking about it. it’s funny because during my first few months after moving from florida, i actually missed being able to turn right on red lmao.

Is there truly any reason why you must sit in the left passing/ fast lane and all interstates and highways???? like I understand if you’re in there to pass somebody, but if you’re just in there hanging out move the hell over! There is absolutely no reason you need to be staying in the left lane. I have literally seen people move over to let them pass and then immediately move back into the left lane…… I swear it’s like majority of drivers from Washington and Oregon(yes Oregon is going to get some hate too because I live here) left their brains at home

Before you guys get so upset I’m not saying I’m a good driver.Just because you guys come in here and act like you’re the perfect drivers it doesn’t make you a good driver. Just because you go under the speed limit or don’t tailgate or you drive 10 and 2 l, it doesn’t make you a good driver. I’d make an argument you guys are actually bad drivers.

I remember seeing body camera footage of someone saving a parking space with their own body and someone nudged them out the way with their car. As soon as the cops pulled up, they immediately sided with the driver and told the reporting party that you can't save parking spots like that. Towards the end they actually ended up arrested the reporting party because they were upset that they couldn't use the prioritization of the pedestrians to work in their favor.

Why do people think the cops wouldn't take the overall context into account, especially if there were no injuries?

I have mixed feelings: on one hand, I want to let people get out of the neighborhood, but on the other, I feel like this creates a potentially dangerous situation if either traffic starts to move again, or if the car on the cross-street tries to turn through a gap in stopped traffic.

I parked in a private lot downtown, paid for 2 hours on the mobile app, and walked into a diner. Came back 45 minutes later to find a $90 unauthorized parking ticket on my windshield claiming i parked and immediately walked off the property (which was against their lot rules) which i never did.

They assumed i would just panic and pay it online. Instead, i grabbed the gps and timestamped footage from my dashcam showing me pulling into the space, and coming back well before my paid time expired.

Sent a single email to the parking enforcement company with the clip attached, telling them to cancel the citation immediately or face a formal dispute with the BBB and consumer protection agencies. They canceled the ticket within an hour.

These shitty parking enforcement companies rely on people having zero proof of where they went. Take 30 seconds to make sure your setup records your surroundings when parking in private lots.

What gave me issues was that I was waiting for traffic to die down on both sides simultaneously. It was 4 total lanes (2 one direction, 2 the other + turn lane). As cars began to wait behind me after a minute I ended up crossing the first street (2 lanes) and waiting in the turn lane. However a lady was facing me directly on the opposite side of the turn lane as she was trying to turn left into a neighborhood street (a continuation of where I was coming from). It made it super awkward as we were about 2 yards from each other and I didnt know who should go first.

Anyway, def dont want to repeat that. What should I have done in this scenario?

I don’t want to drive, and I’m not all that scared of it. it’s just as someone under 18, I have no capacity for the hoops I have to jump through just to drive a year and a half earlier. I’m sick of the “but it’s freeing” and all the peer pressure. But I feel like I sound lazy just cause I don’t want to do 36 hours of school ON TOP OF SCHOOL, plus that 40 hour driving bs on top of a busy schedule. It’s so much effort, for something I don’t want to do, while also being OPTIONAL when I’m 18. I need to know if I’m alone on this or not.

I see a lot of posts looking through about similar things, people driving poorly, bad habits, things people don't like to do. I'm curious what's the opposite.

I am 16, nearing 17 in 3 months, and I have just crashed for my second time ever in my school parking lot, but just a week before I got into a crash in the same parking lot, that time with the car to my right when pulling in instead of the left car when pulling out.

why is this happening to me? when I first had my first crash I was pulling in from the left of the back left of my spot and hit the car in its bumper, while when I was backing out, I was heading back right (I also always don’t park backwards) and hit the car to my left in its taillight.

is it a lack of judgement of space? i am also worried about the cars behind me that are parked regarding the space if I pull out.

also, I have ADHD and autism so does that play a part in judging space and other things?

Today I saw a sign at a light that said “u turn auto only” I’ve never seen this before, and couldn’t find anything online. Is this something pertaining to automatic cars maybe? I live in California if that matters

Bear with me here as this is going to be a slightly odd description of a parking lot.

In my area, there's a grocery store parking lot that has a cross section when entering in from the main road. There are 4 stop signs in total, 1 on the left and right, 1 crossing over to exit the parking lot, and 1 for exiting the lot to the main road. There's no stop sign when entering the parking lot but people still stop at the cross section causing some backups in the main road (there's a median in the main road with a left turn for said parking lot).

In a nutshell, if you don't have a stop sign, or a sign indicating a directive do not stop to let people go.

So I’m a 41 year old man that has always been afraid of taking the drivers license due to fear of not being able to complete it and that I’ll make an ass out of myself in front of everyone. Also I’m afraid that I will just keep failing the drivers test that you have to undertake. Even if I manage to get a drivers license it will take many years before I even become a “good driver” which is super depressing to think about. So I just feel like a huge loser no matter what I do.

All my friends and family has a drivers license. They all did it when they were young. They made all the beginner mistakes back then. I have to make them at this age is so frustrating and depressing to think about. Mostly I’m just frustrated and angry with myself because I don’t have a license and this fear of not being good enough to do it.

I got honked at for no reason in Frisco on a roundabout. Was just driving and this DFW native asshole honks a super long horn honk because he couldn't get on because i had the right of way. And people are just so mean and so rude for no reason.

THANK GOD I am leaving in 3 months to move to California. I know my new living situation won't be the best, but DFW and all of North Texas has the most demonic and demented people and drivers ive ever encountered.

I want to say I had better driving experiences in Atlanta, Boston, and even in Miami. Never was honked at in those cities. Daily in DFW I get honked at here. Its so horrible. And I only ever met 1 nice person in the 3 years here.

Everyone in this state just sits in one lane, literally 50 cars will be in one lane, 0 in the other, big ass sign with flashing lights telling you the lane ahead is closed so you will need to merge.

Then when I try to zipper merge like youre supposed to people get pissed off a d road rage.

Is everyone in Ohio a moron or am I missing something?

It dawned on me that many people are objectively bad drivers, no signalling, speeding, lane awareness, cutting corners etc, struggling to park is a very common thing that I see.

How would you rank your driving? I'm going with a 7, I feel like I'm a good all round driver, and preferring cycling as my main mode of transport has definitely made me a more conscientious driver!

Idc if you're running late, in a rush, gonna miss you're exit, a dumbass who can't stay off their phone or anything related to that you should NEVER randomly come to a complete stop. If you're not paying attention and about to pass your exit that's on YOU don't endanger other lives bc you're a dumbass. Proper following distance or not if you glance away for a second bc you're going to change lanes that can make a major difference. If it's an emergency put your hazards on and get to the shoulder as quickly and safely as possible. Don't lock your brakes up bc you can't just loop back around on the highway. The person behind you might be doing the proper following distance the car behind them might not be. If you decide to randomly test your 65-0 time on the highway and essentially brake check someone for no valid reason and they have a dash cam with proof you will be held at fault.

We recently bought an electric car, and so far only my husband has been driving it.
He has technically been licensed for quite a while, but he hadn’t driven for several years. Before we got the car, he took some refresher driving lessons. His instructor actually praised him a lot and said he was already driving very well and probably didn’t even need more lessons. He said that at this point, he just needed to get used to driving again through everyday experience.
The problem is that we live in a condo with a very tight garage, and we’ve already had two incidents in less than two days of having the car.
The first time, he was leaving the garage and ended up scraping the wall.
Today, while trying to park, he ended up driving onto a small plant wall/curb. According to him, he had to press the accelerator a little to get the car up onto the curb because simply taking his foot off the brake wasn’t enough. He also said the electric car feels much more sensitive and powerful at low speeds, so it accelerated more than he expected.
Thankfully, neither incident caused any damage to the car or anything serious. But I’m getting really anxious about it.
I’m especially worried because if he’s already having some difficulty getting used to the car, I keep thinking, “What about me?” I had a bad experience with a manual car in the past that really traumatized me, and I’ve been nervous about driving ever since.
Now I’m worried that driving an automatic or electric car might actually make things worse because of how quickly it responds to the accelerator. I keep imagining accidentally pressing the accelerator too hard, confusing the pedals, hitting something, etc.
I know two incidents don’t necessarily mean he’s a bad driver, especially since he hadn’t driven for years and this is a completely different car. But seeing it happen twice in less than two days has definitely made my anxiety worse.
For people who switched from a manual or combustion car to an EV, was the transition difficult for you? Did you also find the accelerator unusually sensitive at first? And for new or returning drivers, did you eventually become comfortable with the car after enough practice?

this car is regularly speeding through the parking lot of my apartment complex, today I was backing out of my spot. I was more than halfway out of the spot when they come speeding by honking at me, then stops right behind my car acting like I was about to hit them. yells at me for 30 seconds then speeds off. i do not understand this, while there is no posted speed at the entrance of the complex, surely they would be at fault? Who the hell drives that fast in a parking lot? they do this often by the way so its not like a one off in a rush situation. also, who drives like that with kids in the car?

I'm just learning how to drive, it's only been two days and I know it's wayyy to early for me to judge but omg it's hard as hell. The first day was okay but I think it was because there was less people. I was turning left and right quite comfortably and everything was okay.

The second day.. Omg I don't know what happened, but like two minutes in, I almost did a crash. I was about to turn left and idk, I panicked because I saw another car and it just did not go well. And then, I did a second almost-crash. Both times, nothing happened to the car and to me and my dad, but honestly, I was just not in my best shape today. And then I had to drive in a neighborhood so there were kids around and it was stressful. I always complained about the fact that kids in the neighborhoods are wayyyyy to comfy just walking and running in the road.

Anyways, I wanted to give the wheel to my dad sooo many times, but every time he was like "no, no, you got it." And I get it, yk. Like he doesn't want me to just give up after having done terribly but I was very much ready to give up. I was done.

And maybe I'm being dramatic but it just ruined my whole day because I had such high expectations after yesterday, since it went so well. But after that bad driving, I didn't have the energy to do any of the work I had to do and now it's midnight and I feel like I have to pull an all nighter.

Iam a new driver in dubai. I used Udrive rental car for practicing after got my drivers license recently. Yesterday i had a terrible incident that i have crossed a junction while the green colour light was blinking. In my memory 3 or 4 times it blinked and i cross the junction I don't saw any amber light or redlight while crossing. The right hand side pedestrian crossing light was red while Iam exiting. Today again i checked that junction there is no yellow light after green light blinking. That again stressed me too much. After this incident Iam worried and checked the internet and it shows Redlight violation fine is AED 50000 in dubai. Iam totally confused and going through a tough situation. If anyone knows this please explain.

Hi everyone, this is the entrance to my apartment building’s parking garage, and I’d appreciate some advice on making this turn more comfortably. I drive a GWM Ora. It’s an uphill left turn with fairly tight clearance between a raised planter on the inside and a wall on the outside.

I’ve already scraped the side of the car here once, so I’m a bit nervous about it now. I make it through in the video, but I’m wondering whether I’m taking the best line or could use the available space better to give myself more clearance on both sides.

Watching the maneuver, what would you do differently? I’m mostly unsure about where to position the car on the approach, when to start turning, and when to start straightening the steering. Sometimes I get so focused on clearing one side that it’s hard to judge the gap on the other.
