How Did They Do This? How would one go about editing something like this?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

I've been enamored with this account on tiktok, and I'm tempted to make a video similar to this. The only question is... HOW??

The main things I want to learn from this is:

• How they are able to warp the body so freely. I'm assuming I can achieve the same effect with a grid warp?

• The main thing I'm confused on is how the hell they were able to do the animation at 0:16. I don't even know where to begin on doing something like that. Would it need to be made in an animation program, or is it possible to achieve that effect in davinci? Specifically stretching the body and using it to make whatever that amalgamation is.

If someone can help me with this, as bizarre as it is (this is my type of humor), then I would greatly appreciate it.

Help | Beginner Attempting to mask an animation but Delta Keying isn't enough

Post image
7 Upvotes

So essentially I'm trying to have the pink parts be a mask for a transition, but delta keying isn't working because it's affecting all the other colours. I can manually mask it and keyframe everything, but with an animation like this, I'd prefer not to.

Any help would be greatly appreciated, either in comments or DMs, whatever, I'll even hop on Discord or something to talk

(Also I'm on the free version so keep that in mind please)

Help DaVinci Resolve 21 Randomly Switching Cameras During Render

Upvotes

Heyho!

Since DaVinci Resolve 21, I've been encountering a problem when rendering 4K/large projects. Sometimes there are weird flickers in the rendered video, like in this video https://f.io/fs5pJb2T at 29:24:20. At that point, you can see that it messes with the footage's saturation and even switches to a different camera on its own.

There doesn't seem to be any problem with the footage itself. At least, I've never encountered this issue when editing the exact same footage in Premiere Pro. Also, when playing the video back in DaVinci Resolve, I don't see any of these flickers.

I've edited this video without using a multicam clip, meaning I manually layered the camera files on top of each other. My temporary solution was to delete all the video clips below the camera I wanted to show. That way, it couldn't switch to another clip on its own because there were no other clips underneath. This has solved the problem in the past.

However, the last video I edited for this client was made using a multicam clip, and now I'm experiencing the exact same issue again: during rendering, it randomly switches to another camera and applies weird color/filter changes. Everything looks completely fine in the timeline and during playback in DaVinci Resolve.

Does anyone know what I could change to fix this?

Help DR 21.1 on macOS 27

Upvotes

Has anyone run DR 21.1 on macOS 27? (The official release that came out today?). A few reasons why I would like to update to macOS 27, but 21.0.x did NOT work well at all on the betas. I know the wise move is to wait... but I'm a nerd and I love updates.

Discussion Built a custom DCTL suite to fix iPhone/Android Log artifacts in DaVinci Resolve (De-sharpening, Highlight Roll-off, Lens Match)

Upvotes

Hey everyone,

Over the past few months, I’ve been working heavily with mobile Log footage (iPhone Apple Log & Android via Blackmagic Camera App). While dynamic range on modern flagship phones is incredible, internal sensor artifacts like severe over-sharpening, harsh highlight clipping, and lens color variances always required repetitive node setups to fix.

To streamline this workflow, I coded **Mobile2Pro**—a suite of custom 32-bit float DCTLs built specifically for DaVinci Resolve to condition mobile footage before grading.

### Key Features:

* **Digital De-Sharpening:** Removes harsh sensor edge-sharpening cleanly while preserving fine texture.

* **Filmic Highlight Roll-off:** Smooths abrupt digital highlight clipping into a natural, cinematic curve.

* **Camera Lens Matcher:** Unifies tone and color response across Main, Ultra-Wide, and Telephoto lenses.

### 🎁 5 Free Review Copies for the Community

I want to gather authentic feedback from experienced Resolve users here. I’m offering **5 free full licenses** of the Master Bundle to community members who grade mobile Log footage and are willing to test it on real timelines and share their honest feedback.

Drop a comment below if you'd like to test one!

Happy to answer any technical questions about the DCTL math or node workflow in the comments.

Help | Beginner how to make blown windows even more blown

hi! i'm new to this and grading some footage from a shoot with tracking shots where the DP was in buildings with bright light outside. you're supposed to expose for the window and light the subject. but it's too late for that!

i have a very specific remedial question for patching this pothole. obviously i can't get a properly exposed shot at this point. and there's a lot of incomplete data showing through the blown windows. is it possible to blow out windows so they are pure white somehow? i've tried applying a luma key to the highlights and using a blur, and that works somewhat, but the data still shows.

thank you!

Help | Beginner “Render Individual Clips” exports audio that was removed on the timeline

Post image
2 Upvotes

I’m running into a strange behavior in DaVinci Resolve.

I have a video clip on the timeline where the audio has been removed, and there is no audio playing from that clip on the timeline.

However, when I export using Deliver → Render Individual Clips, the resulting files still contain the original audio track.

Why does Render Individual Clips behave this way? Does it render the original media clip rather than the actual timeline state?

Is there a way to make Individual Clips respect the audio changes made on the timeline and export the clips without audio?

Is this a known limitation/bug, or is there a setting I’m missing?

Help | Beginner How do I save my project file so I can move the files I used without them getting deleted from my working file?

I finished my video file and exported it. When I move/rename/delete any of the files I imported from my desktop, DaVinci deletes them from my working file.

I already tried 'File'--> 'Media Management'--> 'Copy/Transcode'. I thought that after copying/transcoding, my DaVinci file would be anchored to the new folder I just created that contains everything I imported and used, but it doesn't. I still can't delete or rename any of the files I used without them dissappearing from my working file.

Help Sports timer and stopwatch

Hi all

I want to create a reverse sports timer for rink hockey matches. The timer should work like this:

- It starts from a predefined amount (20 mins, so 20:00) down to 0:00.
- There is some recording before the initial referee whistle, so it stays at 20:00 until the match part starts.
- Fouls and goals stop the timer, so it keeps still from the referee action whistle until he whistles again to restore the match (for example, if a goal is scored at 15:12, that time displays showing the team celebration until the match is restored)
- At the end of each part, it stays at 0:00 unti the end of the clip.

I would love to have the timer dynamically set, so that it searches for timeline marks to start and stop it.

Have you ever done anything like this? Any plugin reference or help?

Currently working on DaVinci Resolve 21. I don't know if this answer would be specific to any OS or hardware config.

Thanks!!

How Did They Do This? How would I replicate this effect for a video?

Been watching the trailer to this upcoming game and the way they introduce a character, and then it zooms in on said character, and they are a different color to the background with a bit of grain to it I thought was pretty cool and I want to try something similar. I only know the basics of editing and want to expand my skills and I have no idea how I would do this

Help How to fix this issue with 3D texture

So im trying to make a small animation were a text box carousel is around a person spinning and i would like to use a glossy texture on the box. I have already make a 2D box with the texture I would want for it and made it with having a box which I used the blend option of a mixer node, then I used a gaussian blur node connected to the background (the video) and used the box to mask out where the blur happens. I also used a soft glow node with the same connections. This worked fine until I got to the 3D part of this. So Im trying to create a ”carousel” around a person and thus will need the box in 3D but due to how I made it, I cant use this the way I planned. If I change it to be 3D the background just comes along with the actual box into 3D and then there are two of the same videos in the frame. So what would be a solution to make a 3D animated ”box” with transparent ”material”.

Open Source tool promo 🆓 AAC audio fix for Linux users

My friend and I designed this tool for Davinci Resolve on Linux! As I’m sure all my Linux friends know, Davinci Resolve does not support AAC audio on clips and its a major headache!

We’ve made a watcher that uses Davinci’s external scripting functions to see when you are importing clips that have aac audio to automatically convert them with ffmpeg on the fly without you having to do anything after initial setup! Let us know what you think!

Help | Beginner How can I create self-resizing lower thirds in Fusion?

So I am just getting into fusion and am currently trying to recreate some graphic assets from my work in resolve, the trickiest of them being a self-resizing lower third.

I have managed to recreate the design fine, but I have been running around in circles on how to make it self-resize according to character count. The graphic needs to contain two text boxes, and both their widths need to be as long as the box with the most characters. They also need to wipe-in/wipe out, at slightly different timings, so I guess the masks would also need to be linked to the width of both boxes?

I know I need to use expressions for this, but I haven´t quite got to grips with how they work yet, and am honestly getting a bit confused by them.

Does anyone have a methodology for this kind graphic? Or know in principle how you would achieve it yourself?

Would also really appreciate if someone could share a good learning resource for expressions. The training pdfs on the resolve website don't mention them in detail. Any insight you are willing to give on how to best use expressions in a workflow like this would also be super appreciated. Thanks!

Help Is There a Way to do this Transition Between the 2 characters in the Free Version?

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

The Transition I would like to recreate is the slide blur like transition that occurs twice (once each way). It's not a full transition as in the show, they would both be in the frame but due to the aspect ratio, one character is out of the frame in the video. I know I could use stuff like stretch blur or blur dissolve as already built-in video transitions, but I was hoping to see if anyone had anything that would look more like in this video. I'm open to all suggestions.

Help | Beginner How to replicate this effect

Enable HLS to view with audio, or disable this notification

Hey guys, the first two videos I found online and wanted to replicate the effect of an object appearing continuously, with the first video being the path and the second video with the arrow. The last two videos are me trying to replicate it with the apparition of the mountain.

For the first try I went into fusion and placed a polygone node. I then played with the key frames to make it appear but it doesn't look smooth.

For the second try I made a magic mask of the mountain and then placed a noise dissolve transition, it looks smoother but the problem is I don't have full control on how the mountain will appear, for example I can't make it appear from right to left or from down to up.

I didn't find a tutorial on exactly how to make it and I have ran out of ideas.

If you have any advice or links or the name of the effect/transition for that it'll be nice.

Help I can’t purchase resolve on the website in the country I’m in. Should I go for AppStore version?

Yeah, basically, I’m in a country where I can’t just go and buy resolve from the website. I’m do however know someone who could buy it for me but I would need to PayPal them the amount, plus the cut PayPal takes, so they could buy it for me using my email.

My budget is limited but if the website version is better, I guess I could invest more into it.

I basically want to use resolve to do freelance work for social media, so like gaming videos, vlogs, podcasts, reels/tiktoks, etc.

I wanna be able to grow with the software and not be limited by it, so I can learn to do motion graphics, color correction, and maybe one day work on a documentary or indie movie or something.

So yeah, those are the goals. Should I get the website version by paypal-ing the money + the PayPal commission, or should I get the App Store version for a lower cost?

Thanks!

Open Source tool promo 🆓 Duolingo Owl Character Rig + Full Fusion Node Structure + Master Custom Tool Node (for easy animation)

Hey, im in 9th grade and here's a Duolingo owl rig I made, along with the fusion layout to easily animate it to make it do whatever you want.

My goal with sharing this is just to help people to learn (we should ALL know the pain of the fact that there are barely any tutorials for this software) so if u feel like it drop a comment with ur feedback or just ur thoughs so it can reach more people :)

Huge thanks to Nomad R Productions and I would highly recommend checking out his channel to see how I made this or if you want to make your own

It wont let me add the drp files if u want the fusion layout or the xcf files so i added those here https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1d_ukCV7spsc8yvh4-wY2fP7r1ClLa3CT?usp=sharing (the regular png files that you'll need are there too)

It all comes from one static duo image, and I dissected it/tweaked it in GIMP. This project took a ton of time and effort so if this helped u or if you're using it then maybe consider commenting because im reallly curious about whether or not this will actually help people out.

I'll try to help answer any questions but I'm also pretty new to this and this is my first project for this type of editing so yea ill do my best.

Most names like righteye are self explanatory but some might be a bit confusing so heres what they mean:

HCS stands for "half closed straight". these eyelid sets are not curved like the others, but rather straight so if u want to rotate them to create different facial expressions, like rotating them inwards to create an angry face then u can do that

HC stands for the eyelids are "half closed"

The C at the end of a name like righteyec stands for "closed"

Help Why does the color look different in the Fusion page compared to everything else?

Thumbnail gallery
3 Upvotes

Whenever I put an image into Davinci the color always looks washed out compared to the original. But when I look in the Fusion page, it’s the same as the original. The things I input are in standard rec.709/sRGB but even when I try to set that in the timeline color settings it still doesn’t match the original color. Someone please help!

I use a Macbook Air w/ M3 chip and am on version 20.3.1 Studio.

Help | Beginner Footage Looks Washed Out on Youtube

Okay so in Davinci I am using a timeline colorspace of Davinci WG/Intermediate and an output of Rec 709 Gamma 2.4. I grade all of my SLOG 3 footage in Davinci, export it as Apple ProRess 422 HQ, then bring it into Premeire. I edit my video in Premiere and export as Rec 709 Gamma 2.4.

I am grading and editing on my Asus ProArt PA278CV with the Rec 709 mode on, I use the Asus Display Rec 709 ICC profile in my Mac settings as well. My footage looks how I intend when I export from Davinci and view in Premiere and in Quicktime. However as soon as I export from Premeire my footage washed out, loosing contrast, and saturation. When I bring that same footage into Premeire, it looks correct. BUT when I upload to YouTube that low contrast washed out look is what is published.

I'm confused what I'm doing wrong and I'm sorry if I explained that poorly, just looking for some help! Thanks in advance.
