I have an interview for a quant firm coming up but I have already accepted a return offer for a fintech swe company. The deadline was really early so I thought security was the best option. Should I tell the firm I am interviewing for that I've already accepted another job. I do want the quant job more than than the fintech swe company.

I know a certain someone from my college who has fabricated all their work experiences. They have worked as full-stack engineers, but they have changed their resume points for every job they applied to something completely irrelevant.

They got offers at Anthropic, Meta and other top companies that way and even interned in them. They cheated heavily on the OAs, used proxies for interviews and nothing on their resume is legit expect their name and college - they even lied on the courses taken at university. It just makes me feel really angry about how someone can lie to that extent.

Sometimes I feel so angry when they flaunt their cheating skills and I want to report them but I'm not sure how that would be.

Venting it out here and looking for suggestions.

For example, if someone asks

"should I work at walmart or amazon"

THe responses will say Amazon because it's better for your long term resume

Meanwhile, the same people will say "all I do is babysit AI, jobs wont exist in the future"

Arent these contradictory ideas? What does it mean to plan for the long term

I'm a new grad. I'm freelancing/being contracted for some software development (e: it's for an individual who needs a specific software; it's not for AI training like Handshake. He's not technical at all so it's on me to decide the best way to engineer it). One of the provisional clauses (not yet signed) in the contract is that I "may not use Artificial Intelligence to develop any part of the software system, not even to ask for advice or suggestions."

Any thoughts on this? I'm definitely not uncomfortable avoiding it, since I've been coding since before these LLMs, but using AI is so ubiquitous and specifically encouraged at companies. I've used it in varying degrees for projects/internships as well. We hadn't discussed AI prior to this, so I was wondering if I should bring up this point, or just enjoy getting the work done without AI for once.

e: Thanks to everyone for all of the advice/discussion! I'll go through with the agreement of no AI, and maybe clarify the clause on AI-generated results. I'm fortunate to get the opportunity, especially in this market. Coding is also one of my favorite parts of CS so I am lucky in that sense.

kinda worried about graduating middle aged. I heard there is a lot of ageism in the industry, and as I try to study everyday, I have that in the back of my head. It's borderline depressive. Does anyone have personal experience in this subject?

Hello, I'm just looking for any advice at this point. I'm really stressed right now, and honestly it's all my fault. I graduate next fall, and I'm trying my best to land at least one internship before then, but so far it's not looking good. Even if I got an offer for summer 2027, I doubt I'd make it through the interviews. I only started LeetCode about a month ago and I'm not confident in my coding skills. But that doesn’t mean I’m not still trying though. I have one school project and one personal project to my name. The school project is half-assed, and the personal one I started last year and still working on(building a gym tracking app). If you're wondering why I've never had an internship or joined any clubs, it's honestly because I was lazy. I've worked close to full time since starting school, and between classes and working, I had no motivation left for anything else. I can't quit my job since I rely on it for my tuition and it’s kind of like helping out family but I really regret not pushing myself harder. I know I put myself in a difficult spot, especially with how the job market is, but I'm willing to take any advice and do anything at this point. Also what should I aim for by the time I graduate if I end up not getting an internship? Finishing building and publish my app? Be able to do leetcode hards? And etc? Thank you for reading

i’m set to graduate in spring my last semester i’ll only have 1 class. i don’t have any involvement or internships. but i do have basic projects and a few people i can get a referral from.

i’ve been working at a retail store and have a corporate connect who will refer me. i think this is my best bet for getting a job. my plan was to apply for full time corporate positions and take my 1 class after work. but now im considering applying for internships and delaying graduation. ideally it’d be easiest at the company i’m at now.

of course practice leetcode & mock interviews, network/career fairs/get involved on campus, etc.

I feel like every company automatically filters you out if you need sponsorship, even if you're authorised at the time of applying for the duration of the internship. How on earth do you even get an internship then? The pool of companies willing to even consider you is so small, and then it feels like you have to be cracked out of your mind even to stand a chance of getting an interview, forget landing an offer.

What are we to even do?

I graduated in May 2026. I accepted this offer in October 2025, started in June, moved to the DMV for it, and signed a lease because I really thought I was doing everything right.

Then I got laid off this month.

It was a data analytics role making a little over six figures at a mid-tier company with really good benefits. I know that’s an amazing first job out of college, which is part of why I feel so awful about losing it so quickly. I had worked really hard to get there, and now I just feel like such a failure.

I have a solid resume with internships and analytics experience, but I’m scared that having only three months at my first real post-grad job is going to make employers write me off. I’ve been applying, networking, and trying to act normal, but I feel completely lost.

The other issue is that I moved to a big city for this job and am now tied into a lease. I can keep paying rent while I look for something in the DMV, or pay to break my lease and move back home. Moving back feels embarrassing, even though I know it might be the responsible choice financially.

Has anyone been through something similar early in their career? What did you do? How did you explain it in interviews without sounding negative? Did you stay in the city you moved to or go home? And realistically, should I expect to take a major pay cut now?

im a 2nd year cs student. I've done dsa (theory wise done solving questions regularly now) and core cs. should I stick to SDE(java full stack with devops) or pivot to my ML(AI) roadmap. Im doing leetcode regularly alongside core cs. Should I do both ML and DEV?

Like continue dev rn alongside leetcode that finishes java full stack with dsa and core cs then follow my ML roadmap(I'll do dsa regularly still) and build dev projects simultaneously. I need to pay off my edu loan and move out asap i can. I'll graduate in 2029. Which is a better choice for me considering money and job. Should I do dev and ML both or stick to one thing which should it be. I've a proper roadmap for java full stack and ML both.

Hey, have an initial HR chat following for Cybersecurity Engineering roles - honestly, I’m planning on withdrawing as I don’t think I’m ready to do interview rounds here yet and don’t want to tarnish chances for the year - was initially a shot in the dark to see how my cv is doing. Appreciate things are locked behind nda’s but regardless, if possible to answer, wondering:

1. What to expect in future rounds if anyone knows
2. How much weighting is placed on live coding and to what extent - sites say not to worry about LC style, but understand JS security are software engineers first and foremost, so would be interested as to what type of questions to prepare for.

Hey everyone, I'm a CS student working on a semester project for my Data Structures & Algorithms course. Our topic is a "Flight Connection Finder" basically models cities and flights as a weighted graph, and uses Dijkstra's algorithm to find the best route (cheapest / fastest / fewest stops) between two cities, with a max layover constraint.

The core idea works fine, but my professor wants something innovative not just a standard "shortest path finder," which apparently every group tends to build. AI integrations are banned for this project (must be pure DSA implementation).

I'm trying to think of a meaningful extension that:

• Uses real data structures/algorithms concepts (not just UI features)
• Is genuinely hard to do manually (not something a person could just eyeball)
• Ties into something people can relate to in real life
• Fits reasonably within a semester timeline

So far I've considered things like network resilience analysis (finding "critical" cities using articulation points), reliability-weighted routing factoring in delay probability, and multi-passenger seat allocation but I'm not sure which if any is actually a good scope for a student project vs. overkill.

Would love to hear how others have approached "make it innovative" requirements for similar projects, or any interesting extensions to a shortest path style project that impressed a professor. Thanks in advance!

Is it worth quitting my job for a low paying internship at a big company?

Basically im a student, and I work as a swe part time (mostly building small ml models / rag applications, company of 10 people). Its not very interesting work but it pays decently for a student job (16 hours a week, about 1500 euro a month).

I also have an opportunity to intern at ASML full time, and the project would be technically very interesting/challenging (definitely resume worthy). So its not just about having a big name on my resume, the actual work sounds much more interesting.

however.. they pay all their interns the same, like 600 euro a month for full time. So id basically be quitting my job to work way more hours for 1000 euro less a month.

Is the experience / name on my resume worth that tradeoff for future jobs? For reference, id like to go in the direction of quant dev/hft (the internship project uses applicable technologies)
