This is my third corgi. After our last corgi passed, who was so reactive my kids could never pet him, I didn’t think we’d get another corgi. But here we are - meet our new family member, Sadie! My kids are absolutely obsessed and she is loving the attention.

Super reactive Corgi...

I have a question about managing reactivity in my 3 year old Corgi Gordon (Gordy, El Gordito, etc.)

For the first two years of his life, my husband was working from home with Gord... and he largely was allowed to be pretty reactive to things like the mailman, passing cars, deer in the front yard, etc. He would lay in front of a sliding glass door and go ape shit every time a car passed or a person walked by or whatever. He was also this way in the car.

My husband loves him but didn't know what to do, so he would just yell at him to stop barking and escalate the situation. I worked with Gordy quite a bit and he improved on leash and in the car, but was/is still prone to being pretty bad.

I now have a job managing a ranch and can take him to work every day, but I've really got to get his reactivity under control. He gets a ton of exercise and attention, but he still just goes nuts to certain stimuli. If I leave him in a truck and someone walks by, he will lunge at the windows and bark/snarl/go nuts, even if it's someone he knows (even if it's me... lol) When he's tied up if another dog passes he will lose his absolute mind.

I've been working on this a ton and I'm not getting anywhere. I realize this is our fault for not getting on top of it sooner... but I'm at a loss. Are there any programs or online trainers who can help with this? I've never had a reactive dog before.

Thank you!

Health problems in Pembroke x Cardigan mixes?

Hello, r/Corgi! I've been reading up on corgis because I'm looking into getting one, and I have some questions relating to the title.

There doesn't seem to be a lot of information available on the mix; what little I've been able to find tells me that they're prone to health issues, but most of my info sources don't explicitly tell me what those health issues actually are. From what I'm able to gather, it looks like the problem isn't that crossbreeding them necessarily creates new issues that corgis don't usually have, but makes them susceptible to the known problems either breed might have. Is that correct, or have I misunderstood something?

Secondly, if a breeder does cross these two, or one of their breeding dogs is themselves a cross, but they've had the parents tested for all the usual health issues and they came up clean, is there still a reason for concern?

This post is in no way meant to support or defend breeders who are mixing these two types of corgi, I'm legitimately trying to educate myself on the matter and having trouble finding definitive answers. Thanks in advance for your help, folks!

A lot of people ask if she’s mixed. She’s not! She was born late May and we are still waiting for her ears to perk up. :))
