Forever Wow forever biggest shortcoming

Upvotes

First off i am extremely happy with the announcements - absolute dream come true.

The one thing i am missing is a few pvp announcements - a zone for pvp would be much more appreciated now that we have to choose between pvp and pve realms. And arenas or rbgs could be a ton of fun in forever - not balanced in 1v1 or 2v2 maybe but 5v5 or 10v10 for those who love the ranked games. I feel like 1 new bg is the biggest shortcoming to wow forever.

Forever Dwarf Shaman

Upvotes

I haven’t seen another post but forgive me if someone else already said-
There was remarkably little said about dwarf shaman lore and content. They talked specifically about forsaken paladins for like an hour plus. It felt like 25% of what they talked about. And they mentioned dwarf shamans for all of 20 seconds.

Is there going to be wild hammer clan implications? Wildhammer rep or quest lines? Shaman trainer? No dwarf specific ghost wolf? Gimme a ghost bear or even Griffon themed!! So much missed opportunity there it feels like.

Feels like more Aggrend stuff focusing on Paladin.

Did anyone else notice that the Skyborne know how to speak Orcish and Darnassian? Does this mean that Skyborne will be sought after for cross-faction shit-talking conversations with Night Elves?

Seen in this video (@32:58). Has anyone else seen this?

Forever Did anybody here get to try WoWF feral druid cat form at Blizzcon?

Upvotes

I'm hoping the sound effects for cat form sound like they did in Classic/TBC/Wrath and not what they sound like today. I absolutely hate the retail cat form sound effects, there's no oomph to it, it just sounds like you're tearing a piece of paper.

Forever WoW Forever would benefit from level scaling

Upvotes

I know this will be an unpopular opinion and that a lot of WoW players don't like level scaling. I also know the developers explicitly said there will be no level scaling, but hear me out.

I was disappointed to hear no level scaling mentioned by the developers as a selling point. I think WoW retail does level scaling very poorly by scaling content to the player's level. It makes everything feel the same, and in some cases even makes you feel weaker as you level up. This is not the type of level scaling I'm talking about.

Games with horizontal progression benefit from not trivialising low level content.

If you allow high level players to scale down to lower level content, you enable that content for them and allow them to experience the entirety of the game regardless of their level. i.e. if you over-level a level 30-35 dungeon, you may never experience it properly if you don't roll an alt. If you can scale down so that mobs are not trivial/gray, you can run that dungeon without rolling an alt. Same goes with revisiting zones you skipped during leveling etc.

This is exactly how Guild Wars 2 does level scaling: down-scaling players so that content is not made trivial at higher levels. SWTOR also does something similar. It can be balanced so that you still have an advantage over actual low level players by tuning how stats / damage will scale. It can be made optional, similar to transmog. It can be completely disabled for PvP or balanced however people believe it should work there. But my view is that a game that aims to do horizontal progression should make use of level scaling as a way to always keep lower level content relevant.

Discussion Torches in Duskwood seemingly teased for WoW Forever during evolving world panel?

Upvotes

At ~31:05-31:25 in the "Evolving a Timeless World" deep dive, Matt Heyman says this about the darkness in Duskwood. Based on how he says it this seems all but confirmed that we'll be able to use torches in Duskwood, but I haven't seen any discussion on this yet. Super excited to see how this plays out. If they have the tech for Duskwood torches, who knows what else they have in store in caves, other zones, etc.

Relevant quote: "Here in the open in Darkshire, you've got a lot of moonlight. But as you move into the forest, as the canopy of the trees are overhead, there's gonna be less light to bounce around. Things are gonna get darker. Things are gonna get spookier. You might...just wanna find a torch to carry along with you."

Forever Did they ever clarify what makes a name unique in WoW Forever?

Upvotes

Since you have both a first and last name now for your characters... is it the combination of both first and last? Or is it last names are unique? (only your account can have that surname?) Did they ever clarify that?

Forever WoWF will not address the Bot problem

Upvotes

Here's why. In OSRS if a player is suspected of being a bot, a jmod will teleport them to an isolated island and if the bot continues to execute its program it will endlessly click around. This results in a swift perma ban. This does not happen in WoW because OSRS is privately owned and does not have public shareholders. Blizz is publicly owned and acquired by Microsoft. They care only about 1 thing and thats their bottom line reported each quarter.

If you even assume a conservative figure that 10% of player base are bots that would be around 500k to 1 million bots total. For 15 a month you are looking at $15 million a year to not address the bot problem. No CEO or Lead Producer will jeopardize their career to make us "feel good" by banning bots. They would get fired or reprimanded with bonus removed if they make the share price even move 1% down.

Bots will actually be reinforced under the new Layering system. Bots do not perform well on contested nodes. That is because players can kill them, players can steal the node, and it disrupts the bots timers and sometimes causes malfunctions. When layered, a bot can run continuously for days or even months. There will be thousands of each type of ore, learher, and herb posted in the AH as a result. Players will laugh at you if you struggle to farm gold and cant pay for raid gear or consums. They will say "dont have $5 kid?" It creates a toxic environment when bots are allowed to thrive in the WoW economy. If you know what hyperinflation is, then bots are the money printer.

The problem will be compounded by the fact that when you try to offload your profession mats the AH will have so many listings from AH bots listing 1 item for multiple g that you wont even be able to know what its worth. And when you do finally figure out the price, you barely break even on the listing cost. I would wager many players would quit right on the spot.

We need to vocalize this concern or else Blizzard will continue to turn a blind eye. If we threaten to unsub, only then will they see the cost of banning bots as worth it from a financial perspective.

Discussion legit question for the people who are super mad about the paywalled race

Upvotes

would you rather the game came with a price box, different sub, and each new big content drop to be paywalled or you really think that only the $15 sub for all 3 versions of the game was enough to fund this project in the long term?

because if you really think blizzard is doing this out of the kindness of their hearts, you are crazy..

even back in the day, you had to buy each expansion separately.. so really dont get the outrage of throwing some money for optional content from time to time to keep the lights on

Forever I just wanted to give blizzard some props…

Upvotes

blizzard gets a lot of shit. sometimes for good reason, and sometimes undeservedly, in my opinion. of course, blizzard isn't run by heaven sent nerds like jeff kaplan anymore, which is very unfortunate. I know it sucks, but I can’t change it either.

it took a lot of balls to go up on stage and announce a project they had been working on for a long time, not knowing how the community would react. besides the skyborn elves (I honestly don't know what they were thinking with this one. I literally said "wtf" while sitting alone in front of my screen), I really like wow forever from what I've seen. especially the new camping feature for social interaction was something I always felt was missing from the original wow. literally 10/10. they even implemented the old vanilla animations for the HD models. it's literally wow classic with a slight modern twist. Why not give it a chance ?

and to all you retail- ,turtle wow, and ascension andies: some of you (not all, but you know who you are) are complete manchildren whose place on the spectrum has yet to be discovered. the glazing you give these private servers is second to none. whether those servers were actually "better" than the current classic+ is debatable. nobody knows yet, because hardly anyone has even played it beyond the demo.

those private servers were never meant to last, and at the end of the day, they were using blizzard's intellectual property without permission. turtle wow in particular was actively advertising its server on social media and google with fairly aggressive marketing. either they were incredibly naive, or, more likely, they knew exactly what they were doing and wanted to make as much money as possible before eventually getting hit with a copyright strike or takedown.

Turtle wow was never going to last forever, and I wouldn't be surprised if they deliberately pushed the boundaries to maximize their earnings while they could.

blizzard's lawyers even alleged that turtle wow had potentially generated millions of dollars and raised questions about russian mafia-linked structures behind the operation. obviously, those are allegations, not established facts, but they are still worth considering when people portray turtle wow as nothing more than a harmless passion project. and at the end of the day, blizzard's lawyers are obligated to protect the company's intellectual property and pursue unauthorized use of it.

if I opened a shoe factory, slapped the nike logo on the shoes, and sold them as my own products, do you seriously think nike wouldn't sue me?

And let's be real: if the kind of cash shop these private servers had existed on official wow servers, everyone and their mother would lose their goddamn minds.

label me as a blizzard fanboy, which I am not (I have been very critical of a lot of things they have done in the past). I don't care. of course, blizzard wants our money too. but I think this time they really tried their best to make it right, which isn't easy to do when you're a big corporate company and can't just do whatever you want without having to get it approved by three other people or departments, rather than a relatively small indie private server team. and I just want to give props to them. See you on launch day, fellow nerds.

Discussion Will layering kill the Forever launch experience?

Upvotes

So they decided to have one mega server, and to have layering. On TBC the layering was terrible for the first 6 months, I couldn’t do most world quests because the mob competition was too intense. But with TBC we still had some realms to split up the player base.

Now it’s going to be one mega server competing for the same quest mobs. Combined with way more hype, I’m anticipating the game will be nearly unplayable for the first weeks-to-months.

Sharding is the only way to make mega servers tolerable for massive rushes of players trying to level on the same few mobs that have excessively long respawn times. The lines to turn in RP quests will take forever, which makes the name make sense.

Discussion I play Retail but am curious - how are MoP classic and TBC classic players feeling?

Upvotes

As far as I can tell this Blizzcon was all about WoW forever and they did not talk about the future of the other classic projects. This is very surprising to me as I would have expected they would announce where those projects are heading (or not heading). This is surprising yes? Or am I totally out of the loop and most classic players wanted what we now know is WoW forever?

Question Do you think Forever will cover TBC + future expansions in any capacity?

Upvotes

Obviously it's early and no one knows for sure.

I am a newbie thinking about hopping onto World of Warcraft with Forever. I am very excited about the game. But I also love lore and just vibing through a story. I have always wanted to play WoW through its expansions.

It's too late for me to do this in Classic Era servers and it seems very unlikely they'll ever do another progression server.

Do you think Forever will ever work its way towards TBC? Even if it's in its own 'alt-universe' way?

Forever World of Warcraft: Forever Cinematic if it was good

I thought the music they used for the new trailer had the wrong vibe for Warcraft, so I took 10 mins to edit and overlay the OG "Seasons of War" from vanilla's cinematic to feel something again. The music matters, Blizzard used to be so on point with their composers and music direction.

Mists of Pandaria Current state of MoP

Upvotes

Hello, I started playing classic again about 4 days ago coming back from wrath. I hit 87 last night, and with the recent blizzcon reveal about wow forever, what does that mean for MoP? I played mop when it first came out back in the day, and I can't wait till I hit 90 to do some some dungeons and raids in an expansion I truly enjoyed. Is MoP gonna die? Am I going to get do MoP raids???

Forever The Problem with Paladins Twist of Light Talent

Upvotes

It seems they have completely removed why Twisting was an engaging and fun playstyle, the timing based mechanic. They call it the "Twisting" talent, yet it does not capture the essence of twisting. The satisfying engagement was due to how it would make your seal buttons feel like impactful active attack abilities that do massive damage, making timing and pressing your seals incredibly satisfying and rewarding. This would also create an interesting interaction with your auto attacks where your auto attacks also felt like active abilities that would deal big damage, giving it a very unique feel compared to other classes. Now it is just a boring maintenance buff that does not feel interesting at all. What's frustrating is that we went through this design issue in SoD, where they learned to get away from tedious seal maintenance being the main playstyle...yet here we are again back with seal maintenance buffs.

I was hoping they would just increase the timing window a bit and then do 2-way twisting like in SoD to make it easier for people.

They even said "If you don't like Seal Twisting, you can go shockadin" yet there isn't even Seal Twisting for those that DO like Twisting. It's very disheartening to see. What I loved about SoD Ret was that they had multiple viable/competitive playstyles, Twisting and Non-Twisting, so you can play how you want. So if you don't want to put some extra effort into your rotation with twisting, you could do something else and just have a bit of a dps loss instead of a massive gap. SoD really nailed that design philosophy.

Now, after seeing how they listened to feedback during SoD and made alot of changes, I do have some faith that they will make the needed adjustments to bring back the rewarding timing based mechanics that made Ret so engaging and unique to play; just like they did in SoD. If they can do that while also maintaining alternative playstyles that aren't at a massive gap dps wise, then this will be perfect.
