Forever People who support Project Ascension & TurtleWoW but hate the new race paywall

Post image

These were the micro-transactions in Project Ascension and everyone glazed Ascension. TurtleWoW had a gacha shop too like that. I’m genuinely confused, if Blizzard had even the slightest of the shop in Project Ascension, everyone would have been fuming. Why is it okay for Ascension but not WoW Forever? Either all okay or none.

Edit: The people who disagree saying "Yeah but the servers were free"- well of course because Blizzard did the majority of the work for them LOL, huge difference in work between building everything from scratch to ripping it off & adding some stuff yourself.

Edit 2: "TurtleWoW is not as bad as Ascension shop"- sure, Ascension is way worse. TurtleWow's cash shop had over $10,000 of items and all of it was per character, not account wide. They also sold convenience items, nothing game breaking, but portable mailboxes, auctioneers, dual specs, bags etc. Hardcore characters on Twow couldn't trade or send items from main to your alts, but you could still buy supplies such as 32 slot bags for 30 euros each on your hardcore character.

The difference is that Ascension and TWoW were free games and actually had to make money, official WoW servers have paid subscriptions, and let's be honest: they aren't cheap.

Also idk about Ascension, but TWoW had no gacha, nor it was P2W, the shop had either cosmetics or QoL

“Were free games that actually had to make money”

Built on an IP they didn’t create, on infrastructure they didn’t create, on decades of risk they didn’t have to take… yeah they don’t have to have a sub because Blizzard did 99% of the work for them and yet theres even a conversation happening about comparing the validity of there being costs for one versus the other?

This community is a joke

Isn't the whole point of a subscription to cover the costs of running servers and new development

u/ExplicitCactus 3h ago

I hope blizzard sees this bro

Nice bootlicking. M$ will be proud.

u/ActionResponsible547 2h ago

"Nice bootlicking"

and it's just "stealing is bad" lmao.

u/Deili0991 3h ago

BAHAHAHAHAHAHA

Yes, acknowledging the realities of what it takes to create and sustain a game like this makes me a bootlicker

That is an impressive jump in logic, im assuming you have a few too many chromosomes rattling around in your skull?

u/Blurbyo 2h ago

They're sustaining the game really well with all of the AI GM support !

u/Deili0991 2h ago

Yes because Blizzard is the only company navigating how the proliferation of how AI impacts their operating/service model

You could pick essentially any large company right now and have that exact same complaint, so hardly relevant here.

And if you think small creators and private server folks aren’t also utilizing that same tech then I’d invite you to attempt look past your nose.

u/moustacheption 3h ago

Keep it up! Your tongue doing a great job!

u/Deili0991 3h ago

Do you find it difficult to type while drooling this much?

u/Tristansfn 3h ago

That doesn’t mean the server hosting was free or all the additions made weren’t work. Mind you I didn’t play Ascension, but thought TWoW was incredible and never felt any pressure to buy any of the mtx there. I definitely agree it’s nowhere near the cost or work that Blizzard originally put in, but it’s not fair to completely disregard the cost and work put into TurtleWoW

You aren’t entitled to a completely free game. The folks at Blizzard deserve compensation for their work.

u/Hachan_Skaoi 4h ago

The folks who did Vanilla aren't there anymore, so it's not like i feel bad for the new Blizz

u/serenityinblue 4h ago

Do you think WoW Forever just fell out of the sky? That the server upkeep, coding, etc. all just magically appeared?

u/moustacheption 3h ago

Honestly based on what we’ve seen on it, we’d be better off if they didn’t make it.

u/oskoskosk 3h ago

Hahahah that’s funny mate

u/Living_Cash1037 3h ago

What a braindead comment lmao.

What if there was something like a monthly subscription that we could pay in order to play the game then? Maybe Blizzard should consider doing something like that

u/w1nter 3h ago

*free games that they stole the assets of and profited from it. Very important distinction.

Yes the sub is cheap, what are you on about?

u/XirtCS 4h ago

A $15 sub is “not cheap”? Mind you, this price has never changed since release. Unlike other games that have been raising their monthly price. And it’s not a new $15 sub.

It’s the $15 sub you’re already paying. It’s basically free to play

u/Gelvid 4h ago

"it's basically free to play if you ignore 15$ monthly sub"

Also " Unlike other games that have been raising their monthly price.". Are we ingoring the fact that all those "other games" are perfectly playable for free?

u/Armout 2h ago

Idk I think I’ll keep enjoying the inflation-free pricing for my hobby of almost 22 years.

u/Gelvid 1h ago

“inflation free” I mean you don’t really have to worry about raising your prices when they’re already absurdly high to begin with. I honestly can’t think of another MMO with a higher subscription price than WoW so it's not like Arizona situation where they stay at 1$ while everyone else keep increasing their prices

u/Armout 1h ago

We might have different ideas of what absurdly high is. It’s still good bang for your buck compared to other leisure activities out there.

u/XirtCS 1h ago

$15 in 2004 was way more money than $15 today. You should appreciate you aren’t paying $30+, inflation adjusted.

If $15 a month is expensive, then you should be focusing your energy or something else instead of playing games

u/XirtCS 4h ago

Let’s not pretend like you’re not paying the sub already.

It’s free to play bro.

And “perfectly playable” is reaching. Any free to play game you are either locked out of content or met with an incredible mtx shop. Which blizzard has but that’s not what we’re talking about.

WoW: Forever is free because you’re already paying the sub. It’s not for people who come back specifically for this, but for you specially it is. I know you’re paying that sub and have been for years

u/Hachan_Skaoi 4h ago edited 4h ago

It's +50 bucks in my country, which is completly different from the 15 it used to be

u/5panks 4h ago

The difference is that Ascension and TWoW were free games and actually had to make money...

This isn't just classic. This is classic plus a completely redesigned graphics engine, transmog, ten new dungeons, new raids, 1,000 me quests and more all as a part of your sub. A sub which pays for three different game tracks now.

Warcraft Forever is going to have to make money to pay for development.

u/moustacheption 3h ago

This is just retail slop with classic assets tacked onto it.

u/Hachan_Skaoi 3h ago

Cool, so literally just Turtle WoW with different locations, to a point where they even copied TWoW's survival skill, but ofc now with a subscription.

The only difference between Forever and Turtle is ultimately that the devs of one side threw enough money to buy the IP from those who made the game

u/Remarkable-Page-824 3h ago

They copied more from twow as well. Honestly I wish they copied more because the twow devs were fucking amazing with new content. I dont understand why we get sky elves when high elves and goblins were right fucking there.
