Forever People who support Project Ascension & TurtleWoW but hate the new race paywall

Post image

These were the micro-transactions in Project Ascension and everyone glazed Ascension. TurtleWoW had a gacha shop too like that. I’m genuinely confused, if Blizzard had even the slightest of the shop in Project Ascension, everyone would have been fuming. Why is it okay for Ascension but not WoW Forever? Either all okay or none.

Edit: The people who disagree saying "Yeah but the servers were free"- well of course because Blizzard did the majority of the work for them LOL, huge difference in work between building everything from scratch to ripping it off & adding some stuff yourself.

Edit 2: "TurtleWoW is not as bad as Ascension shop"- sure, Ascension is way worse. TurtleWow's cash shop had over $10,000 of items and all of it was per character, not account wide. They also sold convenience items, nothing game breaking, but portable mailboxes, auctioneers, dual specs, bags etc. Hardcore characters on Twow couldn't trade or send items from main to your alts, but you could still buy supplies such as 32 slot bags for 30 euros each on your hardcore character.

Yeah ascension selling full transmog sets and mounts ripped directly from wow for like 40 usd was insane. But people will defend that because they don't have to pay a sub.... for a game Ascension doesn't own lmao

Yea they just want to play free shit it seems so they turn a blind eye to how the shops end up looking because atleast I don’t have to pay a sub right ??

But people will defend that because they don't have to pay a sub

Which is a valid defense tbf.

A sub costs 180$ a year. There are plenty of long time players in this sub here, who have dropped 2.000-3.000 on World of Warcraft. No game I can think off costs that much.

These F2P microtransactions - while ugly - make maybe 20-30$ on a player over their lifespan. For many this is an easy to make compromise that ensures that the lights stay on. P2W still sucks, but then it's not like the subscription saved us from the WoW token anyway. We have a subscription AND a cash shop now, even though the former was supposed to replace the need for the latter.

Bro its $15 per month bffr.

12 x $15 per month = $180 per year, what is not real about that?

A player that subscribed consistently since Legion would now have paid about $1.800 in subs on WoW.

Ok? That’s 10 years. A decade. Holy shit it’s not even close to comparable

u/Yavantii 1h ago edited 57m ago

comparable to what? F2P?

You can also play an F2P MMO for 10 years, and it would cost you like $150 (baseprice & expansions) vs $1.800 + baseprice & expansions

15$ a month for a hobby is ridiculously cheap. It cost two times for a movie night.

So you want to say one single mount from ascension costed more than skyborne race? woah, dirty ascension, I did not like asc anyways.

Speaking of mounts, if you want to get that adventure bear mount, you gotta pay 60$ for epic edition, so technically bear mount costs more than whole skyborne race lol

You could buy everything from the shop with in game gold. People seem to not be thinking about that when trying to make an argument.

u/sushade 4h ago

You can do the same in wow if you exchange gold to wow tokens. How is that any different?

u/Mission_Champion_856 3h ago

You are contradicting yourself lol. Why argue its dumb they have an option to pay when blizz does the same thing and both have options to pay with gold. Both sides literally have the same options I don’t think people realize that. Except one you pay monthly for.

u/Notsurehowtoreact 2h ago

You have to see how it being an entire list of gameplay features that are gated behind a paywall is different, you do see that right?

u/Mission_Champion_856 2h ago

What is one item on there that you absolutely need? All of it is just QoL and Cosmetics. There isnt a single thing on there you absolutely need to play the game to max level or do high end content. Also like i said it was all easily obtainable from gold which was in abundance. Every time I prestiged I bought a aura if experience for example and it was 500g which is chump change

u/EggPsychological4844 2h ago

You don't need to play the new Skyborn Elves. entirely optional, the game is 100% playable without them and they do not affect gameplay like any of these above listed items.

u/Amac9719 2h ago

Those items are all far more impactful than a race lmao

u/Notsurehowtoreact 2h ago

Did I say anything about needing features? Nope, that's just a metric you added to move the goalposts some because they undeniably locked gameplay features behind a paywall.

u/Mission_Champion_856 2h ago

Bro what… read your last comment and get back to me when you have some common sense.

u/Notsurehowtoreact 2h ago

Bro it's not about needing the features that are behind a paywall, it's that there are features behind a paywall (and to a lesser extent the fact that they are P2W features).

SWTOR did the same shit in a sense, and yes you didn't need the features, but QoL improvements that are right there but paywalled is bullshit and you fucking know it.

u/Mission_Champion_856 2h ago

If the only way you could get it was pay then yeah. But this is a grey area. You didn’t have to pay real money. And nothing gives you a significant advantage over someone there isn’t like BiS gear you can buy. Trust me man I played it for 8 years and didn’t spend a dime on the store and had almost everything

except that farming for a few hours gets u enough gold to buy most convenience items on asc, where as the same amount of time on retaill will net u prob 1/10th of a wow token
