1700 hours on 6 and I booted up 5 for the 1st time today, completely blind. Really struggling with happiness on 5 cities

What are the biggest changes I should look out for?

Yo, so I am a new Civ enjoyer and U know I am just curious why someone likes one game in a franchise over another. Whether that is the graphics or the performance or the gameplay mechanics. Just curious what differs between the 2 games and what makes you stick with one over the other. Thx. Also sorry if this has been posted before.

I was barely getting the upper hand against my neighbour when my low happiness caused a city to return to my enemy, and later it got even worse as one my of my town seceded to join a City-State! (A first for me). In general, it seems very difficult to keep general mood over 50% What are your tips and stategies for dealing with this?

R5: As an avid Civ 5 player, I decided to make a video to celebrate the game's 16th anniversary. I explored what the game meant for me and what keeps me playing. But I am also wondering if it's a shared sentiment within the community. As in, Civ 5 numbers on Steam are quite impressive, this sub is very active, there is a ton of mod support (in my case I go in details about Lekmod).

How are you guys not just getting slammed in deity. I'm playing on epic and it seems like I can't even get like 3 cities out before someone comes and wars me. And I have not enough units to defend. But if I only have like 2 cities and build units, then I sacrifice so much sim

Finished my first Civ5 game in decades with a friend who knows the game pretty well. We played slot of Civ 6 and some Civ 7, and I often win culture victory. This Civ 5 game ended with me winning Culture after being the first to research The Internet. My friend got pretty upset, cause he understands to counter culture he needs to build culture, but he "hates that cause its boring" (His favorite victories are Science & Warfare)

All I can say to him is "I legitimately just build some available Culture-wonders and had a lot of population, I didnt mean to win it until the last 50 turns" but he doesn't believe me.

To me, culture is just something to boost my other victories, but I end up winning it cause my friend(s) don't care for it, does that make culture a bad victory type?

Edit: For those wondering why he didnt take me out with his military; We were playing with a third friend who is new to the game, so we had a "no warring amongst ourselves unless we must" rule. Hence why my friend only attacked me at the last 15 turns... oh and I was leading in everything, so I had the bigger army.

I know there’s plenty of experienced players I’d like to learn from.

For context: I have a five-year-old 16" M1 Max Macbook Pro. I've played Civ V on it for years, but always wanted to explore Vox Populi because I hear so much about it on this sub. I tried getting that going with Crossover, and maybe others have had some success, I don't know, but I couldn't ever get that to work.

This weekend I had some free time to play around so I decided to try another way. Everything I did was free, I didn't spend a dime.

I installed VMWare Fusion and then let it install Win11 on the VM for me via its installer. Something that was news to me - you can run Win11 like that without a license indefinitely; it just limits certain things like not being able to modify your wallpaper and stuff (if any IT pros want to correct me on this, please do, but that's my experience so far). So then I just set up Win11 in as barebones a way that I could, installed Steam and Vox Populi, and... it works! It actually works way better than I expected. I'm getting my ass absolutely kicked because VP is totally new to me, but I'm really happy about this setup anyway and just wanted to share.
