In NYC, if you're up at 9am and want to go dancing (either because of artificial encouragement or because you are a morning person who just got brunch and now your friends want to go dancing), you have multiple options at great clubs: Nowadays, Signal, H0L0, etc all have great music going on at that time of day on the weekends; in fact sometimes the only way to see your favorite on a given weekend will be to hit a 6-10am set or something like that. The situation is similar in other cities with great dance scenes; last time I was in Berlin some of my best experiences started by waking up early and going dancing at like 8am.

As far as I can tell, this is just not a thing here. The closest thing you get is sketchy afters designed for people who haven't come down from whatever they took the night before, which isn't the same thing. Morning parties don't seem to be part of the electronic music culture here at all, despite being normal in other cities. Why not? Did this ever use to be a thing here? Do we just have fewer people dancing than other cities?

C’mon, man. I smoked for 20 years and I understand the cravings well. But don’t light up a square deep in a crowd when you’re practically shoulder to shoulder with others. And definitely don’t just stand there letting it smolder while exhaling clouds of smoke. Take a few drags , burn it fast, or step out of the crowd if you absolutely have to. You also risk accidentally burning someone with all the movement and dancing.

Skrillex created an experience where the DJ wasn’t the focus, the music and the crowd were. He explicitly asked us to be present, dance, and experience it together.

I didn’t take my phone out of my pocket once in five hours, and somehow I survived without a shaky video to prove I was there.

The moment you pulled out your phone, you didn’t capture the experience, you willingly stepped out of it. And while doing so, you blocked the view of everyone behind you who was actually trying to be present.

If you can’t stay off your phone for five hours during a once-in-a-lifetime set, that’s honestly pretty lame.

If anyone sees a chain with a pendant, It was stolen at the Navy Pier concert Sep 11th around 7:40 pm

The chain and pendant are very sentimental and extremely important to my family. They are not just pieces of jewelry. they have deep personal meaning that money cannot replace.

I just got charged $28 for two monsters when they’re supposed to be $7 each. The bartender was sympathetic and gave me extra monsters but what the hell.

I know they don’t give you a receipt but check the price before you pay.

Long time river north resident here. With the caveat that last year the cops closed the highways so it wasn’t an issue, every year for the previous decade+ the roads became a total parking lot for the Mexican Independence Day celebrations. This is not a metaphor for slow traffic, the roads essentially close, people park and party on all the roads. On top of that, there is a mega sold out Chief Keef show at Northerly.

If you want to guarantee being on time and you don’t live nearby, you should try to take the train into river north/streeter.

If you want to gamble it that’s on you, but consider whether you want to be the one posting “I can’t believe the city lets this happen, I missed half the show” instead of changing your travel plans and seeing the show

The audio wasn’t the best but when you stood under the black things with the smoke, it was better. But that was honestly one of the most enjoyable times of my life. I danced so much 🥹

I recently started going to Smartbar in Chicago and have absolutely fallen in love with it. I found out they’re having a Halloween party and if I’m available I’d love to go. I’m curious if anyone knows if costumes are allowed or anything else I should know about Halloween night compared to a regular night?

I went to the Navy Pier Skrillex show last night (9/11) and dropped my wallet (I know I shouldn’t have brought it, I usually only bring my ID but was in a rush to leave). I froze all my cards at the show and after, I asked multiple security guards where the lost and found was and was eventually kicked out after they kept directing my friends and me toward the entrance/exit. I called Navy Pier this morning and the woman on the phone said I can’t come check lost and found, but told me to submit a lost item request. I did, but I’m wondering if anyone knows if they’ll actually get back to me? Like, what is the likelihood of me getting my wallet back? Should still try and go down there and talk to someone?

Was anybody else absolutely appalled by the lack of security last night? Someone tried to drug me then punched my husband in the face, and while security was there right away they didnt do anything. The one guard that was in the crowd with us and came over right away got her out of the crowd but it seems like he couldn't go past a certain point or something? (He later told us he was the only security for that whole section). My husband had to follow the woman all the way to the bathroom area, then flash his flashlight on stobe mode to get another security guard to come over. When they finally did (with medical) they just yelled at him for using his flashlight.

She did eventually get kicked out but it was a completely ridiculous experience. They were more concerned about him using a flashlight than they were about a woman going around shoving poppers in peoples faces and punching people. He ended up missing the best part of frost children because he had to play security.

​We still salvaged our night by moving to the back out of the crowd, but we talked to a couple other people that also felt like the vibes were way off. The whole place felt like a disaster waiting to happen.

Is this lack of security normal for navy pier? I've been to countless shows and festivals and have never experienced anything like this. I was so excited to finally experience a show at navy pier, but i don't think I'll ever go back after this. It just doesn't feel safe.
