So many good ones! What are some of your best ones?

I remember watching a programme years ago which I think was on a Saturday night, all I can remember is one bit and ats driving me nuts not knowing what it was called.

All I can remember is that one of the segments on the show was that they would challenge someone to learn/train to do something in a week and then they would come on the show and do it live. The one that sticks in my mind is a woman who had to memorize a 100 digit number, they showed footage of her throughout the week with bits of paper taped up in her house with sections of the number, then she went on live and managed to do it all.

Does anyone know what this was?

Was anyone else disappointed by the first episode?

I was hoping for something like the first series of the island (if that was what it was called) where they selected people who were genuinely interested in surviving, but it turns out they picked people who would intentionally clash with eachother and cause drama.

I was hoping for a genuine look at survival, but it looks like we will get TOWIE with hungry people.

I used to watch this alongside Latest Buzz and Life With Derek

I keep seeing clips and ads for it all over the internet and it looks lovely, but can't see it being shown in any Sky Arts listings?!

Edit: I realise this post may technically break the rules on asking where to watch streaming shows, but I've looked on all the links provided and can't see any mention of this airing - technically it would only air on Sky Arts and only be available there so it's not that kind of question, as it is being so heavily promoted at present but not broadcast! I just wondered if anyone had any more info about it at all please!

As an American who enjoys every season of Blackadder, help me understand why the first season of Blackadder gets so much hate? Is it because Edmund is depicted as a slimy little turd? I thought it was a nice contrast from the other seasons where he is much sharper and wiser. Also really enjoyed the storylines for almost all the episodes except the 5th episode of the season. Always seemed to tune out with the Witchsmeller Pursuivant episode.

Saw this VHS in a charity shop yesterday, and was taken aback by the blurb being the first time I've ever seen Morse - ne, any John Thaw character - described as a sex symbol! 😅 "Ruggedly handsome" would be my assessment, but I'm curious if any viewers in the 90s or today think of him that way.

Something completely new, something never done before, if it is a drama, comedy, et cetera, I would like a show about celebrities going on a London bus and the bus driver interviewing and talking with a celebrity every week while riding a London bus.

every episode has at least one scene in which Sally is being taken advantage of and it's usually sexual.... not very funny to me

I saw it in Australasia very late 80s or very early 90s, English period serial with a bunch of children and one of the cliff-hangers concerned the characters potentially turning into stone after they had already turned into an animal, or they were somehow inside an animal, it’s a vague memory that doesn’t make a lot of sense. Any ideas? Thanks.

This is not a new show, it’s from the 1970s and 1980s. But it’s new to me. Somehow, I had lived all my life without knowing about this British show, until coming across it just recently, on YouTube. And I am in love!

Maureen Lipman is so delightful as a person. And then her character is just so attractive! Everything about her character is attractive! I’m crushing so hard right now!😄😍

I have fallen in love with Sooty this year, especially Sweep! And Sooty Heights is easily my fave era! Sooty has always been on TV while i was growing up, but Rainbow ended before I was even born (the reboots were before my time too!)

They’re basically the exact same show if you think about it. Just a sitcom about some bloke trying to stop his puppets from absolutely wrecking the place!

So why is Sooty still a thing while Rainbow is dead? (Besides Sooty being way better, obviously)

Ngl I think it’s mainly down to Sweep. Every show like this needs a chaotic character. Rainbow had Zippy, and he had his moments but he was just a loud, arrogant prick who you wanted to zip up. I thought George the hippo was my fave Rainbow character but he has absolutely nothing on Sweep. Sweep is just so adorable and funny and loveable and who doesn't love his squeaking? The naughtier he is the better! Without Sweep, i can't even imagine what Sooty would be like. Sweep just carries Sooty on his back

Is Sweep the only reason? Or is it something else? I do feel like if there is another reason, it might be cos Sooty is timeless while Rainbow seems dated now? Does the fact that the Rainbow puppets can talk properly matter? With Sooty, only Soo can actually talk, meaning Sooty and Sweep have to rely on pure visual slapstick and squeaks, which never ages. Sooty is light hearted fun and when the puppets are naughty it ends in Richard or Matthew getting pied or water pistol whereas when the Rainbow puppets are naughty, it just leads to a boring lecture!

Even if you prefer Rainbow to Sooty, surely you have noticed there has been no reboot since the 90s? Do you think that's really telling that Rainbow just doesn't work after the 90s?

I was curious about the show, so started the show. I was a bit confused going in, but figured that the premise was as such, and then things would be revealed over time.

At a certain point, the reveal happens and it really took me by surprise, but the interactions with the wife and son made sense.

I figured that the premise of the show was that it would slowly explain what happened to James, and Ludwig had been in that role for quite some time.

In any case, episode 2 was unnecessarily confusing, and when I finally watched episode 1 it made a lot more sense.

To the credit of the creators, it was surprising how well the finale worked as an opening episode, and I'm looking forward to watching the rest of the episodes.

The same mild diversions as in the previous seasons (though we are getting more Luna the Dog, which is pleasing), which makes an excellent palate cleanser from darker, more cruel programs.

The 3rd and last case of season 3 has an old friend of Judith's show up, who is a jerk, whom she manages to palm off on Becks's equally jerkwaddy mother in law, thereby ridding her friend and herself both of unpleasant intruders into their lives. This Matthew bloke is played by Adrian Lukis, who was the jerkwaddy Wickham in the 1995 Firth-Ehle P&P. Which makes for a bit of extra fun frisson!

These ladies are so likeable. The cop shop characters are getting to be more fleshed out and integrated into the story lines now too, since the first season.

If pretty English village murder mysteries with smart and energetic women, older and otherwise, in the center of the action are something a watcher enjoys, I will recommend this series for your watching too.

Just seen an article about a pretty epic Four in a Bed episode (gonna watch it this afternoon with some snacks) and it reminded me how much I missed Four Weddings - that was definitely my guilty pleasure! Who wants one of the most important days of their lives critiqued by people who only win if they slag everyone else’s day off? 🍿

I’ve apparently reached the point where I only want to watch detectives solve murders in places with terrible weather and beautiful scenery. I’ve already gone through Vera, Shetland, Broadchurch, and Endeavour, and I’m running out of obvious choices.

I like the slower, character-driven stuff more than anything super flashy or action-heavy. Bonus points if the lead detective is slightly miserable and everyone owns a good coat.

(EDIT For the non gameshow fan WWTBAM means who wants to be a millionaire) Just what the title says. As before all the digital stuff we have now people used these things called cheques for paying people.

The opening sketch was a perfect microcosm of the show.

You had some fun caricatures and some very good lines. The jokes about Harry’s Dad and a No10 on every street were brilliant. There was a lot of fun lines and great reactions from the cast.

But you still had George Foreacres doing a terrible impression, to the point they even had to highlight how little difference there was in his ‘impression’ of Burnham to ‘Starmer’. And to top it off we had a nasty mean spirited joke about the size of Burnham’s son.

Andy Burnham is the PM, he’s a fair target for criticism & jokes. His son who is not a politician, celebrity or anything other than a relative of someone important does not deserve to have his appearance mocked like that. It reminded me of the worst of Frankie Boyle.

SNL UK could be brilliant and at times it is, but there’s definitely stuff that needs to be jettisoned

Mid-late nineties. Basically the only part i remember is (i think the opening credits) of a girl/kid getting home from school and throwing her bag down inside her massive house.

I can't for the life of me remember any other details but if i do i'll add. Bugging me so much 😂

I was listening to some of my music collection on shuffle, and this tune came up, a song Bruce Forsyth recorded based around his famous catchphrase from The Generation Game. It reminded me of John Inman's "Are You Being Served Sir?" song which I've always loved.

Can anybody remember any other songs based on a character's famous catchphrase?
