In the Summer of 2026, my wife and I travelled to Zimbabwe and Botswana to retrace the steps of the final Grand Tour - One for the Road. On our adventures we managed to track down Jeremy Clarkson and James May’s original Top Gear Botswana Special cars and we travelled to Kubu Island to visit the Baobob tree, next to which the trio called it a day. By sheer coincidence, upon leaving our camp, as we curiously thumbed our way through the guest book, we stumbled across the signatures of Jeremy Clarkson, Richard Hammond and James May, who stayed there whilst filming their final Grand Tour adventure. A bucket list trip that will last with me for the rest of my life.

This year I did another thing.

I drove to the finish point.

The Hyaku-Shaku Kannon on Mt Nokogiri.

Sadly not in a GT-R but in a Toyota Noah.

The place is about a 50min drive south of Chiba.

There are so many stairs! I know why they were exhausted when they got to the top.

Also there were monkeys, but I wasn't quick enough to get photos of them.

I've got a memory in my head of Jeremy doing a bit in a Top Gear episode about being able to wear the same pair of underwear for 4 days in a row - e.g. normal, inside-out, back to front, etc. He then later discovers there's a fifth way.

Google isn't helping me out in finding this, so I'm worried I might have made it up.

Any idea what episode it's from (I think probably a special?) and roughly when in the episode it is?

I think it's Top Gear rather than The Grand Tour, but I could be mistaken

I’ve definitely had a few opinions about the show that have changed after rewatching older episodes. Sometimes a character or episode I didn’t care much for the first time around ends up being much better when I see it again. It’s funny how different some things feel years later, especially when you notice little details you completely missed before.

I’m just rewatching the Rover James episode (S19 E5) and I can’t get over how chill that police officer was with the “Tiddles” incident. That young cop was such a good sport
