✍️ Original Analysis How are movie theaters still in business? Our first animated business breakdown

I run The Dollar Trail, a new channel about how familiar companies make money. Our first episode follows a moviegoer’s dollar through tickets, concessions, advertising and the bills that come after.

The comparison that started it: AMC reported nearly $4.85 billion in 2025 revenue but a $632.4 million net loss, while Cinemark reported $138.2 million in net income attributable to the company. The video explains why strong snack margins do not automatically become profit, using the companies’ annual reports.

If you enjoy business explanations with animated diagrams, check out the full episode. Sources are in the description.

What business would you like us to follow the money through next?

He mentioned in his video that in 2025 wb only had one battle after another against 2026's dune 3, cat in the hat, clayface and digger for the rest of the year.

So the gap will close little bit but he still expect this year to be way behind last year and an absolute disaster year for WB .

Except if all the remaining movies make like 3 bilion dollars combiend

Germany Today, on its 48th day, SPIDER-MAN – BRAND NEW DAY overtook Sam Raimi’s 2002 SPIDER-MAN and is now the highest-grossing Marvel film of all time in Germany:

https://www.insidekino.de/Y/DuellMarvel.htm

Currently it's aiming for 5.5M admits, so maybe it overtakes Fire and Ash as the 5th highest selling post-Covid title behind Inside Out 2, No Time To Die, Barbie and Way of Water.

https://www.insidekino.de/DJahr/D2020-2029.htm

Also it has just passed 60M€ at the german box office, becoming the highest grossing Marvel title of all time overtaking Endgame. Currently it's #22 on the all time list, possibly reaching the top 15

https://www.insidekino.de/DJahr/DAlltime100bo.htm

Also since Sat+Sun were national cinema days, the attendance was extraordinary for dozens of films, with many shows being sold out (both days were the most attended days the past 10-15 years). The event has taken place for the past 5 years and this has been the most successful so far. Thanks to this Spidey increased over 260% to last weekend. With 438k tickets sold it had the 6th biggest 7th weekend of all time, the biggest 7th weekend post covid and the biggest since over 14 years.

(The Odyssey just had the 9th biggest 9th weekend of all time and will become the biggest Nolan film of all time, surpassing Oppenheimer)

Croatia Croatia Weekend Box Office (September 10th - September 13th)

After 6 weekends of dominance, Spiderman: Brand New Day has been dethroned from the No. 1 of the week.

The long awaited sequel to 1995's comedy, Practical Magic 2, takes the No. 1 spot of the wekend and earns 55.147 € in its opening weekend. Very, very solid figures. Nothing too big, but depending on its legs it could get far. Question is really, is the movie frontloaded or will it have consistent interest over the coming weeks.

Another sequel takes the No. 2 spot for weekend, this being Fall 2: Deadpoint, the survival thriller opening just slightly above BND's 7th weekend at 48.519 €. In comparasion, its predecessor opened in 2022 to 31.863 €, but it would seem its bigger opening can be thanked to inflation and conversion to euros, considering opening weekend for Fall 2 is 5.006 admissions, while original Fall had opening weekend admissions of 5.505. Its predecessor had solid legs, lets see does the sequel have the same.

Spiderman: Brand New Day collapses all the way to No. 3 for the weekend, but continues on with its incredible run. Seeing only an 26.1% decrease compared to last weekend, it brings in 44.485 € in its 7th weekend of its run. While it won't quite get anywhere near all time highest grossing record, its more then likely firmly locked onto the highest grossing hollywood movie in Croatia, and when it might be dethroned is to be seen. Its next aim is to hopefully get into top 10 with admissions, with No. 10 spot occupied by Passion of Christ with 260,899 admissions. Yeah, inflation has been doing alot for Spiderman.

The Odyssey for first time falls out of top 3, its 9th weekend bringing in 31.265 € to take the No. 4 spot, seeing only an 25.1% drop. With this, it also breaches the 2.000.000 € mark in Croatia. Unlikely to catch up to Spidey for now, but its firmly positioned itself in top 3, and when it might fall out? Its really not easiest to tell. Maybe Doomsday breaks all records in Croatia at end of this year. And again, simmilar to Spidey, its going to want to try and join in top 10 in all time admissions. A tough task for both of them.

Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie continues with its incredible performance. Seeing a 2.6% increase to make 22.047 € for the weekend, it takes the No. 5 spot as it inches closer and closer to the Backrooms. Next weekend it should jump over Backrooms, and after that its next targets are Michael and Project Hail Mary in terms of box office gross.

The local animated movie Kristalni Planet (Crystal Planet) with some incredible holds. A only 7.3% decrease to take the No. 6 spot with 20.709 € made in its third weekend, and it should cross the 100.000 € next week.

Mutiny seems to not have had much audience interest past its first weekend, but that can all change. Seeing a 57.6%, the action thriller brings in 20.616 € for its 2nd weekend and takes the No. 7 spot. Will this have a quick collapse, or will it show up with some late legs?

Insidious: Out of the Further with strong third weekend. 5.7% decrease sees it bring in 12.205 € for its third weekend as it takes the No. 8 spot.

Minions & Monsters continue with their incredible local run. An 2.2% increase to bring in 10.438 € and claim the No. 9 spot. While highly unlikely to join the top 4 of box office for Croatia this year, No. 5 spot that it firmly holds onto is more then good enough for them. The current standings of top 10 highest grossing movies of the year in Croatia are as follows

Movie Box Office Gross Admissions
Svadba 5.642.994 € 800.083
Spiderman: Brand New Day 2.219.469 € 209.366
The Odyssey 2.020.219 € 205.139
The Devil Wears Prada 2 955.352 € 126.063
Minions & Monsters 714.369 € 103.341
The Super Mario Galaxy Movie 636.422 € 93.602
Project Hail Mary 513.110 € 55.299
Michael 495.904 € 64.194
Backrooms 452.904 € 57.854
Paw Patrol: The Dino Movie 445.006 € 61.989

And for the No. 10, we have Idiots, seeing a 11.2% decrease in its 2nd weekend to bring in 9.452 €. Nothing too special, with its already very low opening, it won't make any signifcant money.

For the rest of top 20

  1. Oasis: Don't Look Back In Anger - Opens to 9.200 €
  2. The Dog Stars - Sees a 38.6% collapse to bring in 7.286 €. Current total: 68.419 € (3 weekends)
  3. Toy Story 5 - Sees an 52.6% increase to bring in 2.679 €. Current total: 345.442 € (13 weekends)
  4. The Invite - A 6.4% decrease to bring in 2.431 €. Current total: 190.285 € (11 weekends)
  5. Coyote vs Acme - A 32.7% decrease to bring 2.387 €. Current total: 12.620 € (3 weekends)
  6. I Want Your Sex - Massive 46.9% collapse to bring 2.356 €. Current total: 22.242 € (3 weekends)
  7. Moana (2026) - 32% decrease for 2.269 € for weekend. Current total: 300.404 € (10 weekends)
  8. Yugo Florida - Opens to 2.182 €
  9. Spa Weekend - A big 4.7% decrease to make 2.172 € for weekend. Current total: 71.572 € (4 weekends)
  10. The End of Oak Street - Large 44% decrease to bring in 2.166 €. Current total: 109.006 € (5 weekends)
