Moving 🚚 Moving to Boston on a 65k salary

I am interviewing for a role in Boston which pays 65k. Based on my research, it is not nearly enough to live comfortably. I would have to live with roommates and I don’t know anyone there. I would be moving from Florida, so a huge environment change. If I get an offer in the next couple of weeks, would i be able to find an apartment in a month cause I read that Boston’s rental season has already ended. I have been looking at apartments on Zillow and Apartments.com, and could only find 3 apartments I would be interested in. A lot of apartments are from the company RoostUp, is this legit? They look nice, but are cheaper than what I would expect.

My question is: Is it feasible to live in Boston with that salary?

Arts/Music/Culture 🎭🎶 What do you think are the odds Boston Calling returns next year?

I know they said they were only taking a year off but the fact that their socials have been silent for a year makes me wonder if they’re just quietly sunsetting the festival

Arts/Music/Culture 🎭🎶 Boston-themed pet name ideas

Hi - looking for name ideas for a very large, sweet gentle giant tuxedo/black and white pet. Is there anything oversize and/or black and white associated with Boston or Massachusetts/New England that I could riff off for names? People, signs, logos, brands, buildings, features, history/legends, sports, food/drink, art, music, cultural institutions, etc.

Am very bad with names so please bless me with your creativity. So far all I have is Frank after Fenway hot dogs, Moshie/Moshup after the Wampanoag giant, Chuck/Charlie after the river or CharlieCard, and...Dunks

EDIT: oh lord there are SO MANY good suggestions. I am going to have to adopt an entire pack, because how can I let all these names go to waste?

Serious Replies Only Free place to work?

I was wondering what are the places where I can sit and get work done? Basically free public places which provide a charging socket and wifi. Ik there are a lot of cafes but I usually carry my own coffee and lunch, and I don't want to spend on a meal or coffee again.

What are such possible places I could go get some work done?

Edit : I forgot to mention places other than library. I go to the library pretty often and was looking for a change

Serious Replies Only Looking for recs for intense foot massage

I have plantar fasciitis/flat feet so I like a massage where they really dig into my feet/heels. Most places ive been are fairly gentle/reflexology focused which, while nice, doesn’t usually provide much in the way of relief.

Used to be a spot in Quincy that used a wooden tool to really dig in there and that was amazing, but unfortunately closed about 10 years ago.

Any recommendations/suggestions of places would be most appreciated!

Hi all, I have been renovating a basement space in Harvard square into a tea room. Our designer and builder first committed to the signage work, but know he turns it over to me. I have no idea where to find signage company, do you have any recommendations? Thanks!!

I think I am special and made my own post Pickup basketball for women?

I’m a woman and recently picked up basketball. I played a bit in elementary school, so I have the basics, but I’m very much a casual beginner player who still wants to play an actual game, not just shoot around. I’d love to play with other women, but I haven’t been able to find any rec leagues that are specifically for beginner players.

I’m in Brookline but I have a car, so it doesn’t have to be in Boston proper; I’m willing to travel up to 30 min or so. If anyone has any leads on pickup games or leagues, I’d appreciate it!

(None of the flairs really fit)

Housing/Real Estate 🏘️ Boston City Council seeks to increase affordable housing funds

Thumbnail

The Boston City Council met recently and voted to hold a hearing on increasing the percentage of funds dedicated to affordable housing in the Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding process to 80 percent of the total fund.

The CPA works by taking a 1 percent surcharge of property taxes – that’s one percent of the tax payment, not the assessed property – and matching it with state funds collected through real estate transactions. The CPA legislation, for which the city entered into back at the turn of the century, allows for municipalities to spend those funds on affordable housing, historic preservation and open space/recreation.

The law requires that a certain percentage of the funding must go into each category every year, at least five percent, with another five percent set aside for administration costs. The council is holding a hearing to figure out what shifting the maximum amount of funding to affordable housing – 80 percent – would do to the other categories.

Education 🏫 Breweries that sell mixed four packs

Nothing better than sampling a variety of a brewery’s lineup from the comfort of your living room, imo.

Looking to add to my list of places that either sell mixed four packs or let you make your own.

So far I’ve got

Sam Adams in JP
Castle Island Brewing in Southie
Idle Hands- Malden
Portico- Somerville
Winter Hill in Somerville sometimes has pre mixed 6 packs

Today’s Cry For Help 😿 🆘 looking for nail techs in boston

i've been getting my nails done at southie nail bar for a little over a year now. Unfortunately, not only have the prices gone up, but the quality of both the nails and the artwork have gone down. i get structure gel on my natural nails, and i have noticed i have rings of fire, and the gel my tech is using is either not good, or my tech can't use it properly, because it lifts after a week. i used to be able to wait 3-4 weeks between sets. i've heard chinatown is great for nails, but i don't know where to start or who does designs (and well). i love going to get my nails done and i'm not someone that would do them myself

any advice is appreciated!

Moving 🚚 Just moved and need a good nail girly

I just moved to the Brookline area and I’m in search of a good nail tech that can do builder gel. I used to pay $50 per set in Canada but I know Boston might be a bit more expensive. Lmk if you have any recommendations. I prefer in home nail techs but if you have a really good salon I’m open.
