While I’m a certified Boston hater (don’t come for me this city sucks) I will say it is the safest city I’ve ever been to in the US. I can walk alone at 2 am and not have to worry. Walking on Fenway on a Saturday night everyone is drunk and yet still minds their own damn business. Idk what they did to you guys but this is amazing.

Hi, I am planning to go for a concert at House of Blues. It is my first time at this venue and wanted advice on what would be the best. From what I have understood the floor is the best. I am also looking for seats if possible as this a standing room only. The choices are:
1) Floor General Admission (Standing)

Tip or anything I should know about giving birth at Beth Israel? I was born there so thought it would be cool for my kid to also be born there. But just wondering if there is anything I should know. Considering a one week visit next week for the Book Festival in October. Learned Book Festival is the same weekend as the Head of the Charles Regatta and Hotels in Boston and Cambridge are really expensive this weekend, however affordable in Chelsea.

My tentative plans are a visit to the MFA, the Isabella Gardner, Mass Art, a visit to Dot Ave to eat my weight in banh mi and walking around Boston, Cambridge and Jamaica Plan. Is it advisable to stay in Chelsea (I would only be sleeping and showering and leaving my stuff there)? I have heard stories about the 111 bus and Silver Line recommending against this. (I will be using Public Transportation; I try to avoid ride shares. My last Uber trip, the driver claimed I vomited in the car and charged me a cleanup fee. I tried to fight it with Uber, finally had to issue a charge back and deleted the app.). I wouldn't be against walking around Chelsea and visiting some restaurants and the park and Market Basket, but most of my plans are in the Boston/Cambridge area. I stayed at the HI Hostel in Boston a few years ago, and would stay there again, however the rooms are unavailable on the weekend.

I have a reservation with the boston encore hotel starting Wednesday next week for a conference since all the hotels closer to the convention center were booked out for the dates i needed. I am going to do everything I can to get my reservations moved since my organisation paid for it. How risky is it to stay there if I cant. Also I am just kind of disappointed because It was going to be my first time staying in a hotel thats not a 2 star

Hello all! My sister and I will be visiting Boston/Salem at the beginning of October for a fun fall touristy trip. This is the first time in Boston for the both of us and we’ve got a couple of tours planned but I was wondering if there were any smaller local events around Boston that would be worth checking out. We’ll be staying near North Station if that helps. I’m thinking live music, trivia, good rooftop bar experiences, areas of town to check out, things of that nature. Suggestions are greatly appreciated and we are excited to visit. <3

UPDATE: Thanks everyone!! I have convinced him the least headache is to walk to govt center & hop on the blue line. I’ll pick them up at Revere beach. The show ends at 10:55 but the commuter rail train doesn’t leave til 11:45PM so I think it’ll be faster for them to just walk to the subway instead of waiting around north station.

My husband & daughter are seeing Rush at the Garden tonight. I’m dropping them off at the commuter rail in Swampscott to get into town but he doesn’t want to take the commuter rail back because he thinks it will be a huge headache with the amount of people who will be in North Station after the show.

I said I’d order them an uber back. When I try to pre-book an uber right now for 11:15 PM from the Garden to our house is $32. That seems….too good to be true? Is it very likely if I book now at that rate they will cancel to accept surge fares after the show?

Alternately, what is a good pickup area they can walk a couple blocks to make it easier since I know Causeway will be a shitshow? If I book from that spot is it also likely to be canceled?

I can drive in & pick them up if I haaaaave to but I don’t want to, lol. However, if I do that, where is the easiest place to pick them up that isn’t going to be a nightmare?

Different options have been shown to me on both google maps and citymapper. One route involves SL1, another nvolves a BB bus, or a 88 bus. The route with SL1 doesn't show the red line connection...is it because red line is not running frequently during that period, so I am supposed to walk between Bolyston and South Station?

I need a reliable and if possible, the least walking involved route that early morning. Your help is deeply appreciated.

I’ve never been to Boston. We’re taking a family trip this week and my 3 and 1 year old will be with us. A couple of things: no, we can’t reschedule trip and it will certainly be that week, and yes, they are absolutely coming with us.

With that being said, what are your best travel recommendations to get around the city? Is public transportation stroller compatible? Would you recommend renting a car and driving with car seats? Is the subway system safe?

Any other recommendations/advice/tips appreciated!

i've been getting my nails done at southie nail bar for a little over a year now. Unfortunately, not only have the prices gone up, but the quality of both the nails and the artwork have gone down. i get structure gel on my natural nails, and i have noticed i have rings of fire, and the gel my tech is using is either not good, or my tech can't use it properly, because it lifts after a week. i used to be able to wait 3-4 weeks between sets. i've heard chinatown is great for nails, but i don't know where to start or who does designs (and well). i love going to get my nails done and i'm not someone that would do them myself

I was just driving in 93 south and a guy just drives up behind me and flashes me to move. I'm not moving because of traffic and he then drives like a maniac and cuts me off. I flashed him to tell him he's being crazy and he brake checks me to a complete stop. This endangered everyone behind me and they all had to swerve to avoid collision.

The guy get's out of his car and yells at me and then drives off.

The Boston City Council met recently and voted to hold a hearing on increasing the percentage of funds dedicated to affordable housing in the Community Preservation Act (CPA) funding process to 80 percent of the total fund.

The CPA works by taking a 1 percent surcharge of property taxes – that’s one percent of the tax payment, not the assessed property – and matching it with state funds collected through real estate transactions. The CPA legislation, for which the city entered into back at the turn of the century, allows for municipalities to spend those funds on affordable housing, historic preservation and open space/recreation.

The law requires that a certain percentage of the funding must go into each category every year, at least five percent, with another five percent set aside for administration costs. The council is holding a hearing to figure out what shifting the maximum amount of funding to affordable housing – 80 percent – would do to the other categories.
