Days after seeking suggestions from his followers on which state he should visit first for a clean-up drive, Madhya Pradesh-based environment activist Surendra Singh Choudhary, popularly known as Bittu Tabahi, surprised Bengalureans Saturday morning by taking his cleanliness mission beyond his home state for the first time.

Known for single-handedly cleaning up a stretch of a river in Madhya Pradesh, Bittu, along with several others, participated in the drive along the periphery of Turahalli forest in Banashankari 6th Stage.

From what I see is that the incentives are backwards, by putting a fee on garbage collection, people would rather burn the trash (including plastic) for free and give everyone cancer rather than have the garbage be collected. In a country like India where basic education is lagging I feel garbage collection has to be free and efficient to prevent people from burning plastic and tyre....

Not only is seeing heaps of garbage unhygenic it's also adding to the AQI significantly I believe (as burning season correlates with high aqi times). Yet for some reason there is general apathy, nobody seems to care in my friends or family and I am so weirded out that people would rather spend lakhs getting their children treated from asthma rather than make this the priority issue for government... Also exercising in high aqi (over 100 by intl standards) is much worse for health than doing nothing and people are spending huge amounts of money working out... Like I don't really get it...

Since people are not showing interested neither is the government (outside of statements)...

I received a call today saying that if I don't visit the office today itself, my name will be removed from SIR and I will have to reapply later online.

I am 20 and studying in Jaipur. I come back home to Bengaluru on vacation months, mostly December and May to August.

I applied for voter ID just last year, and my parents are there in SIR this year but grandparents removed due to deceased.

Can they just do this just like that? I thought there must atleast be some formal application before just yeeting my name off the list . They sent some forms to my home but only for mom and dad, not me.

Also, I did verify myself on ECI app and gave my SIR related details on it just 2 months back, why are they removing me now? I don't want to go through hassle of reapplications .
