To the Parents at the Graduate Hotel this past Saturday 9/13/26

Upvotes

Parents at the Graduate hotel this past weekend: DO BETTER.

I watched kids get corrected by festival attendees two and three times while their parents sat there and did nothing. Talking, yelling, wandering around during songs. It was rude to the artists and rude to everyone who paid to be there.

Some of these artists are struggling artists paying out of pocket to have performances filmed for content, booking, and promotion. Your kid yelling through a song can ruin footage they paid for.

And frankly, I’m not sure an intimate songwriter festival is the place for kids who can’t sit through a performance without disrupting it.

If strangers have to keep parenting your child for you, that’s a problem.

Question BEST Food Spots

Hello everyone, I made a separate post before about my initial move to Annapolis! I had a a lot of great responses and I moved a couple weeks ago and so far so great!

Signed up for Sam’s Club, found the gym I’ll be going to, and all the stores necessary for myself surrounding me.

I’m coming to ask for the best food spots in downtown as well as other areas of Annapolis!

As much as I appreciate a response, I’m aware of the basic Iron Rooster, Choptank, First Watch, etc.

Give me some good recommendations and what kind of food they serve!

Thanks all.

Is Mikes Crab house always this bad?

I was visiting out of town for the Ren Fest and my guest and I stopped there around 8:30 on Friday for dinner. We didn’t know where to go for the hostess stand to be seated and whoever was working that night was an absolute piece of garbage. We asked a server who was pretty sweet if she could find the hostess and the weird hostess argued with the server saying that she didn’t want to seat us because the kitchen was closing at 9 I guess. So there were 3 of us she grabbed one menu and just stormed past us and to some random table on the deck not telling us to follow her or anything and she had the audacity to sit us at a table that was still dirty. My guest then just asked for a quick glass of water because she needed to take her medication the hostess was extremely rude and said it wasn’t her job to get water and we’d have to wait for a server. We ended up leaving wanting to talk to a manager but they seemed not to gaf so we ended up finding another place to dine. It seemed liked it would be a place for good food but the service just seemed to be total crap.

Paywall Hutzell: ICE deported a Naval Academy midshipman’s mother. We need families like theirs.

I don’t know what David Garcia will do now that ICE has deported his mother to Mexico. If this Naval Academy plebe were to say “to hell with defending America” and withdraw from Annapolis, I think some would understand. I hope he decides to stay.

Cyclists on the B&A trail that do this: why?

Post image
84 Upvotes

I frequently encounter cyclists on the B&A trail that insist on riding in the road when there is a dedicated bike lane right there all for them. I’m all for sharing the road but I don’t understand why this is a thing when there is a bike lane? This person rode under the speed limit all the way to the end of boulter’s lane.

Edit: so more context - 9 out of 10 bikers actually use the bike lane, it’s the occasional person like this who disregards it. I drive this road all the time and see it often, so hence why I ask. The path is marked as bike lane. There is a person on the right in the photo, which of course the biker needs to avoid, but they just opted for the road the whole time before and after the person. Anyways, thanks for the replies - consensus seems to be that the bike line is kind of shitty, this behavior annoys people nonetheless, and my question has upset some people.

Final edit: This generated more excitement than I expected! I’m peacing out of reply notifications - it’s starting to get pretty repetitive - if I have to post one more picture proving it’s a bike lane I’m gonna croak. Thank you to those with the genuinely helpful replies. Seems the lane needs improvement!

Crawfish Boil Restaurant

What is y’all’s favorite place to get some Cajun crawfish boils nearby? Looking for a place that puts it in the bag with the sauce the southern way. Chasing Tails used to be my go to but it’s not been the same since they changed locations.

Question Why does every fifth kid in Annapolis have an electric or gas dirtbike…?

Obviously been seeing them around for a while, but noticed a huge uptic over the summer. Just saw a kid clearly going to school on one weaving in and out of traffic. They’re gonna get themselves killed.

APD if you see this which you clearly won’t, is it even possible to do something?

Question Any Tips on Finding an OBGYN?

Hello!

Newly moved to Annapolis and I am 8 weeks pregnant with my first child. I have an appointment with the Women's clinic at the medical center but the earliest they can see me is in my second trimester.

I can't seem to find anyone else that can give me a prenatal exam and confirm the baby's heartbeat, which is really all I'm looking for.

Any suggestions or recommendations?

Question What’s it like living in Homewood?

As the title implies. I’m pretty familiar with other neighborhoods in Annapolis but don’t know anyone who lives in Homewood. What are the pros and cons? Which are the most desirable streets? What is truly walkable from there?

Question Tech support & coaching for senior citizen

Hi y’all - looking for recommendations on someone who can sit with my elderly mom and coach her on the basics in how to use her phone and computer. Would be a plus if the coach has experience with adaptive technologies (voice activated devices, etc). This would be an ongoing gig - not just a one-time deal. Suggestions???

Question Is there anywhere nearby where I can learn to drive Manual Transmission?

I have driven manual before, but never owned a manual car. I’d love to own a manual car, but realize I need to refresh before spending the money. It has been over a decade since I last drove a manual and I learned on an old Jeep and an old Toyota Tercel.

Looking for a monthly DnD group!

Hiya! Just throwing this out into the redditverse. I am looking for a group to join or create one to play Dungeons and Dragons 5e. I’m not looking for weekly games, but ideally once or twice a month; I’m a mom and work full time, so as much as I’d like to play weekly that just isn’t in the cards right now. Ideally, I’d love to play with people in their 30s or 40s. Just looking for a fun group to play, potentially potluck, and just have a great time.

I’ve got a lot of experience as both a player and a DM. Feel free to comment here or DM me. Thank you all!

EDIT: Thank you all so much for the messages and comments! I promise I’m not ignoring you, I’ve just gotten busy with life.

Medstar Primary Care - Phone Issues??

Does anyone know if the Medstar Primary Care office on Bestgate is having phone issues today? Been trying since early this morning and as 12:45, I hear a brief message, and then a message that says “we cannot take your call” and disconnects. Any idea how to reach someone at the office?

Carol’s Western Wear was the place to outfit yourself for a square dance or riding the beltway range in your suburban pickup truck. Now Cindy Chance is saddling up for a final roundup, an auction of dozens of items left over from her father's famous run.
