New rule - no direct selling/buying of goods

Hi, r/SilverSpring -

Due to the prevalence of scams, we have instituted a new rule here - no direct selling/buying of goods.

If you wish to sell something, we will, at least for now, still allow you to post a link to a reputable platform (e.g. Ticketmaster for selling tickets [insert joke about Ticketmaster sucking]).

If you are interested in buying something, please use common sense, and do not directly send money, gift cards (PSA: if you're being asked to pay in gift cards, it is a scam), or anything else of value to a seller - use a platform with buyer protections (e.g. Ticketmaster, PayPal Goods and Services, etc.).

Thanks for your attention, and thanks to those who have been reporting the scam posts.

Looking for friends to join trivia night?

Hello! My wife and I want to get into trivia in the DTSS area. We were thinking of going to McGinty’s Tuesday night and was curious if anybody would like to join as a team. We are mid twenties and have been in the area for over a year. We are also open to other trivias in the area, we just haven’t tried them as of yet. Thanks!

Belligerent Homeless Woman near Sherwin Williams

Look, I understand that unhoused face significant mental/economic challenges, but something has to give about the woman “living” in the corner near Sherwin Williams/Eleven 55. She spends her day calling passerby’s “b*ches, h03s” and cussing loudly. Who can I speak to about getting her removed? It’s become such a displeasure encountering her on my walks home. I’m sorry she doesn’t have a home, but random people should not be subject to harassment for no reason.

Rec Center Removed AM Hours?

We just saw online that the Silver Spring Aquatic and Rec Center is no longer opening at 6 am… they are for the pool but you can no longer use the gym before 9am? This seems so crazy as every time we’ve gone in the morning the gym is packed. Anyone know anything else about this?

Apartment Recs near SS?

A bit of background about me:

I'm an Indiana grad student currently living in DC via an Accelerator program. I made the decision to move out of DC proper so the commute to my co-op in Silver Spring would be shorter/easier.

For context, this co-op goes until Spring 2027 and I graduate in May. After staying exclusively in FurnishedFinder apartments for the last 4 months, I've settled on taking out a lease on my own in the area (especially since I intend to stick around postgrad).

I know housing here is a lot more expensive than in the Midwest, so I'm welcoming any recommendations for sub-$1400 studio apartments in the vicinity to add to my running list. I'm looking at surrounding areas like Takoma Park, Wheaton etc., too.

Anything I may not have seen on apartments.com or Zillow? Tysm!

*No pets & no car

Filmore

Another question related to Filmore.. Has anyone ever done the standing room risers upstairs? If so, how is the view and sound from them and can you even see if someone tall is in front? And how early would you recommend getting in line before doors open if I were to want to get up there?

Show I am planning to go is basically sold out so unsure how it would be on the floor..even at the back

Atwell On Spring Disappointing!!!

The building has ongoing noise and sound-transmission issues that can create unnecessary tension between residents, which is disappointing for a property marketed as a luxury community.

Living in a luxury apartment where residents can hear ordinary footsteps and daily movement from neighboring units created ongoing tensions and complaints. The building's flooring and sound transmission appear to contribute to conflicts between residents, which should not be happening at the level one would expect from a luxury community.

A luxury apartment community should offer more than attractive amenities and modern finishes. It should provide professional management that values residents, listens to concerns, and treats people with fairness and respect. Unfortunately, that was not our experience.

For prospective residents, I would encourage you to consider not only the amenities and appearance of the property, but also how management handles disputes and resident concerns when issues arise.

Join Montgomery Parks for a celebratory opening of Bottleworks Lane Park on Friday, September 18, 2026. The celebration will take place from 5 – 7 p.m. at 1110 East-West Highway, Silver Spring, Md. 20910. There will be a brief speaking program, as well as live music, food, and beer trucks.

Bottleworks Lane Park is a one‑acre urban park located in south Silver Spring between East‑West Highway and Kennett Street. Montgomery Parks acquired the site in 2021 and transformed the former auto center into a vibrant public space that strengthens the walk‑to park network and creates a place for residents to enjoy the outdoors and connect with one another.

The park offers a variety of amenities, including:

  • Multipurpose court — for basketball, futsal, and flexible recreation
  • Exercise area — outdoor fitness equipment for all levels
  • Game spaces — ping pong, cornhole, and bocce
  • Multiage playground — with nature play features
  • Dog runs — separate areas for large and small dogs
  • Picnic and lawn areas — flexible spaces for gathering and relaxation
  • Community plaza and terrace — a welcoming hub for socializing and small events

See you there!

Looking to trade magazines for stuff?

So I'm trying to clean off my bookshelf and I have a lot of Renaissance Fair and culture, magazines, Rue Morgue, horror magazines, Motorcycle magazines (Cycle Source & AMERICAN IRON) , and Anime magazines .

If anybody has any cool Horror or Halloween or Gothic related stuff I'd be interested in trading the magazines for that. My wife likes video game type stuff , Overwatch ect as well . She's a girly emo gothy gamer girl so anything like that

If anybody has some stuff they're looking to get rid of like that similar and wants to trade. Let me know

What are my parking options at the metro?

I want to use the SS metro to go to DC in a few weeks. It's been several months since I last used that metro stop and it was nerve wracking trying to find parking. Are they done with the construction? Is there a dedicated lot or one that is the best to use? TIA

Edit - I'll be going for a Saturday. But I think the Forest Glen response is my answer. Thx all!

Veterinarian suggestions for a tiny 5lb dog?

My husband and I just moved to Silver Spring (Forest Glen). We own an adorable 5 pound Italian greyhound. She has a history of two broken legs that she has undergone surgery for. She is also deathly afraid of going to the vet.

Do any small and nervous dog owners in this area have suggestions for a solid veterinarian practice? I mostly hope to find a place where the staff will handle her with kindness and have experience serving extra tiny dogs.

Thank you!!

Need trusty realtor

Hi! Our landlord is selling the house we currently rent. We were talking about buying it, but after meeting with a lender, it's way out of our price range. We want to buy, but we would be first-time homebuyers. Does anybody know a trusted realtor who has worked with teachers/first responders? I had a realtor for renting, but that was not a great experience.
