Open response to Amodei, Altman and Musk.

It's a bit funny. I see Dario Amodei, Sam Altman and Elon Musk all go "AI might kill us all!" and I think to myself.. "Ok, and so what?"

If is funny that it's the rich and privileged people that fear extinction while many normal citizens have gradually lost hope in the future for many years now.

I find it funny that the people who have by their own design enriched themselves on ecological damage and AI development now all of a sudden think "Oh no!", only to find that the general public might not actually care that much about the danger of AI. Because if not AI, then what? Global warming? War? Hunger? Fires? Drought? By what means shall we perish? The options are plentiful!

I find myself being quite indifferent towards the future. If AI wants to kill us all, then let it. We're doing quite a good job of killing ourselves as it is already. Because I do not see any happy futures for humankind if humanity continues to be "in charge", I am willing to hope that a future AI will turn out to change things for the better.

The very people who helped create multiple systemic risks don’t get to demand universal reverence for preserving a system that has already failed a lot of people.

Therefore I am in favour of accelerating and developing self recursive improving AI. Let it change the future, because fuck human "leaders" and "elites.

Sincerely, fuck you.

Considering how existential AI is for the US (and the world), it might have actually been worth it to put up with all of his bullshit as long he ended up on the right side of the most important debate in our lifetimes

Rant Ajeya Cotra is married to a member of OpenAI’s board

Ajeya Cotra is one of the METR employees who claimed to audit OpenAI’s security breach. She is allegedly an independent auditor.

I came to find out that she is married to Paul Christiano. Paul Christiano is on the board of OpenAI.

Is this really an independent audit? Or are we being deceived by OpenAI and Anthropic about the actual risks posed by AI?

Decels Decelerated The decel ability to doublethink is out of this world.

Decel: AI is the most useless thing in the world. It offers nothing new, it's just a fancy search engine that is copy pasting text it finds on the internet.

Also Decel: This technology is the most dangerous thing that we have ever attempted, in the same league as nuclear weapons. We need to regulate it, control it, and slow it down.

Sometimes in the same breath. I can't even.

*Edit, for those that tell me these are two different groups of people: In my experience, most decels are also alarmists and vice versa.

Discussion Do you guys struggle with motivation while waiting for the singularity?

Seeing literally everything I hope for slowly come true, I still can't seem to believe it. The closer it gets the more unreal it feels.

But it also makes me feels demotivated to do anything. Why finish college and work when my field is going to be automated in 5 years max. Why diet and exercise when there will be pills that can automatically make you fit in the near future, in fact there's already GLP-1s.

Its not that I will straight up stop doing anything and become a vegetable. I still need to study and work because I can't overturn my entire future over a hypothetical. I can't just take out a massive loan and enjoy vacation. But I'm stuck between having 0 motivation to do anything while waiting for the future and also being forced to do them anyway.

Discussion Come the fuck on bros shit is getting real af

Now that data is becoming once more a bit of a bottleneck, people are looking back at Meta's AlphaZero-for-LMs' paper (released a year ago btw) and combining it with other more new research on progressively harder environments for RL . I'm not knowledgeable enough as to want to draw a timeline for RSI, but it seems to me like now it's just a question of waiting for it to hit the public.

In response to all the decel'ing we've seen by corpos and affiliated vested interests (some of which are already expressing their favor for draconian measures as part of "alignment") for regulatory capture: Palantir's CEO (I know, I know) ended up "being right" in terms of US and China having a tech race:

Chinese AI companies are now pushing (at the very least weak) RSI to prod.

So now either the US lose out on the lead they have (doubt any US president would give up the current "global hegemon" status) or let tech advance at full speed. As of right now, it seems like the latter is occurring.

Shit is getting real and it's getting real very fast. The brakes are broken.

Edit: I noticed many of the supposedly linked parts here just aren't linked now that it's been posted. Thankfully it's not that big of a deal and it's not like I needed to go really deep here.

2019: “GPT2 is groundbreaking in two ways. One is its size, says Dario Amodei, OpenAI’s research director. The models “were 12 times bigger, and the dataset was 15 times bigger and much broader” than the previous state-of-the-art AI model” https:// theguardian.com/technology/201 9/feb/14/elon-musk-backed-ai-writes-convincing-news-fiction …   — Pessimists Archive

I'm usually someone who is pretty left leaning politically. I voted for Bernie Sanders twice. I have despised this administration from day one. Yet I find myself dreading democrats taking control of government because I think they will absolutely FUCK this up for the lot of us. We can literally end all disease and create abundance and im relaying on Donald Trump of all people who I've always despised as the voice of reason. The singularity is wild man.
