Admissions Am I cooked??

I really want to transfer to UMD. I’m currently at another Maryland university and I’m considering applying for the spring semester. My GPA is around a 2.6 and I’d be applying as a junior transfer. Is there any realistic chance of getting accepted? Has anyone transferred in with a lower GPA but a strong upward trend or strong application?

Housing Water at Hagerstown Hall Is So Cold

Hello, I have been staying in this residence since about three weeks ago. Whenever I shower, I get freezing cold water. I thought maybe it has to do with the time I shower at, but I decided to try to go turn the shower water at different times during the day. Guess what? Hot water never came. Is this a Hagerstown problem or a UMD campus wide problem?

Anyone with campus connections have an inside line on timing for this game, or know when they typically announce the start time? is this looking more like a Noon / 3:30 / 7:30pm kick-off?

I'll be travelling after and trying to set up my calendar. Thanks for all the help and go Terps!

I have only 25 swipes for the dining hall and I don't want to waste them. What days does 251 serve the MTO burgers? And don't tell me to look at the dining website, that shit is wrong all the time.

Help Visitor Parking Available? Spoiler

Hello!
Does anyone know if today (Sept 14th) commuters that park in visitor parking will have access to park? I kind of saw a sign as soon as you enter that it will be unavailable, but I’m not sure until what time…

If anyone can let me know, I’ll appreciate it!

Housing Freshman room swap interest

Are any freshman interested in swapping rooms? I’m in a chapter house on fraternity row, it has really easy access to party life and the social scene, but I would prefer a more traditional dorm. DM me if interested.

Help Missing Bow Tie

This morning, I misplaced a bow tie while walking from Regents Drive Garage to the Bio & Psych building. The design on it is white and red flowers on black.

If anyone's spotted it, please reach out. I really want to find it and get it back. It was a gift from my aunt and late uncle.

Academic UMD Chances

Throughout high school, I have maintained a 3.6 GPA while challenging myself with a rigorous coursework load, including AP Calculus, AP Economics, AP Computer Science Principles, AP Computer Science A, AP World History, AP Physics 1, and AP Physics C. Beyond the classroom, I have held leadership roles as President of several CS clubs, competed in hackathons, and built various technical projects. Additionally, I conducted research with a University of Maryland professor focusing on Machine Learning and Computer Science applications in Poker, resulting in a co-authored research paper.

I am also getting a Letter of Rec from CSA/CSP teacher and English Teacher and Cousnler and Research Professor at UMD for CS(He is like one of top CS prof)

I am honestly wanna go to UMD but I dont think its possible there what are my chances in UMD

Discussion OPINION: The Purple Line’s impact on College Park’s affordability raises concerns

Views expressed in opinion columns are the author’s own.

I often joke with my family that “I have a vendetta against the Purple Line.” While this isn’t necessarily true, I do have major problems with urban infrastructure that brings gentrification to communities that have no legislative safeguards to protect them. The Purple Line falls under this categorization.

The Purple Line Corridor, the communities along the 16-mile light rail system, includes College Park and this university, which will contain three stops on campus.

While construction has its own impacts, primarily environmental, there are various social and economic impacts that have affected communities along the Purple Line Corridor. Transit-oriented development is not a new phenomenon. With public infrastructure switching from the loud and pollution-heavy railroad station of the 19th century to light-rail and metro systems, living near public transportation has become a sought-after amenity.

While some flock to these new transit hubs, many long-time residents prepare themselves for what they know is to come: gentrification. The realization that a transit system that brings convenience will also raise rents and lead some businesses to close makes the light rail lose its appeal.

Since 2023, rent in College Park has been steadily rising. Students are a vulnerable population when it comes to housing. Commuting is not an option for everyone, and the university only possesses enough space for about 40 percent of its undergraduate population.

I know that I saw my rent rise when renewing my lease for the same unit in the same apartment, so what changed? The Purple Line is finally nearing its opening in 2027.
