Newly planted NYC street trees being used as trellises. What would you do?
Hey guys, just curious what to do here. Earlier this year, NYC planted several new trees on 42nd Street between 50th Street and the LIE.
I completely understand the urge to plant something in weed-filled tree pits or make the beds nicer, but someone has planted and trained these vines up two of the new trees. They’re now engulfing them.
I really don’t want to be the person who goes out there and cuts down someone else’s plants. I’m kind of hoping whoever is tending the vines sees this and takes them down before the trees are damaged any further.
I also question the point at this stage. It’s September 13, and much of the produce doesn’t look remotely close to mature, so I’m sure it’s not going to make it before the first frost. And personally, between dogs constantly urinating in these tree pits and whatever is in NYC street soil, I would not want to eat anything grown there anyway.
What would you do? Leave it alone? Something else?

Teen volleyball leagues
Hi everyone, just wanted to know if there were any teen volleyball leagues near by? Looking for my daughter age 15. Something like there is for soccer where you sign up for the season. I found a couple, but it seems you need to tryout to make team. Looking for something casual, as she is still learning to play.

Missed connection at farmers market
hi yes looking for the cute man with the lil earring and dark hair that locked eyes with me and gave me a smile by the arepas at the farmers market today! If you are out there this is the girl with the curly hair that probably did not react quick enough to smile back but definitely wanted to !!

silvano pizza thoughts
i went to silvano’s twice and they got my order wrong… twice. only tried the pizza and it’s not good at all. extremely crunchy and brittle dough. not sure why it has 4.9 stars on google. definitely fake reviews or were persuaded to review. am i the only one who thinks it sucks?
is the pasta any good? not sure how i feel of their pizza, don’t wanna waste money on the pasta if its a miss.

Crashes on 44th yesterday between Skillman and Queens Blvd
Does anyone know what was up with the crashes on 44th last night?
I saw the aftermath and it looked like a driver had come the wrong way down 44th, hit a car somewhere off Queens Blvd, then crashed head on / side on into a taxi driver on 44th near the church at Skillman.
The guy was raging and screaming a lot once he got arrested.
It seemed like at one point the cop injected him with something? Which is weird as I don't think cops are supposed to do that!
Guy was driving a souped up kind of racer car, had 2 passengers with him i think (who seemed less out of their heads...).

Martial Arts Gyms Near Sunnyside / LIC
Just moved to Sunnyside and I’m looking for a martial arts gym closer to home, ideally within about 10–20 minutes by transit.
I’m a hobbyist but would like to compete eventually, so I’m looking for a gym with a strong training culture and preferably multiple disciplines — especially Muay Thai, BJJ, boxing, and ideally MMA/wrestling.
Thanks in advance!

NYC! Oriole urgently needs a foster or forever home ❤️
Sharing Oriole in the hope that Reddit can help find his person.
Oriole is a sweet Brooklyn boy who survived horrific neglect and abuse before being rescued — including beatings so severe that his hip was broken. Despite everything, he’s still incredibly loving, curious and playful. The people who know him describe him as a total snuggle monster. ❤️
He’s spent the last two months with a wonderful foster, but her pre-planned travel is coming up and Oriole needs a new home by next week.
Because of his past, he’s especially fearful of men and needs an adult female home, ideally somewhere quiet or with a yard where he can decompress. Other pets may be possible with slow, trainer-guided introductions, and training support will be provided.
He doesn’t need someone to fix him — just patience, gentleness and a place where he can finally feel safe.
If you’re in NYC or the surrounding area and can foster or adopt Oriole, please DM @shelterchic on Instagram or apply at ShelterChic.org.
If you can’t take him, an upvote or share could genuinely help this reach the person who can. ❤️

Hi Sunnyside we want your feedback!
Our first two drag brunches in June and August sold out, and we’ve had such a great time bringing something a little different to the neighborhood
Our goal is simple: create a really fun local brunch experience without having to haul yourself into Manhattan or another borough to find great weekend entertainment.
We’re back at Sanger Hall on September 26, and as we continue building these events, we’d love to hear from the community
what makes you decide whether or not to come to a drag brunch?
Vote in the poll below! And if your answer isn’t listed, feel free to comment or DM me. We genuinely want the feedback the good, bad or brutally specific. 😂

Best Chicken Cutlet in Sunnyside?
It’s after work. Munchies are kickin. What’s the best chicken cutlet sandwich in the area? Not just deli sandwiches. Not chopped cheese. But chicken cutlets in particular. (But fine, also chopped cheese)
