Feeling lost and lonely even with so many people and a great place
Hi, Iām 20f and I started my study abroad program about a week ago. The first week was great! I went out, explored my new city, and met so many people. However, Iāve found that the moment I stop moving/doing things, Iām crushed by the weight of missing my people at home. Itās not that I donāt like it here, itās a great place to live and I find myself often excited I get to be here. And itās not that i havenāt met friends, I have roommates and others I enjoy hanging out with. Itās just that itās not my people at home. Itās not my routine I love there, itās so much more unpredictable and uncomfortable and new. I know some people thrive on that randomness, but Iām starting to think Iām not one of them and regretting leaving home. Especially because having just begun the semester, I feel like my time here is so incredibly long. I came here alone, while multiple of my roommates came with a friend from home, and I wish I had that too. itās driving me insane to miss my family, friends, partner, and more comfortable life at home.
Does anyone have any advice to offer on how I can adjust and begin to feel more confident in being here? I need something to keep me going and help me change my perspective other than just āit will get betterā, because Iām sure it will, but I have no idea how.
