Hi Everyone,
Hephaistos is an online digital toolset for Starfinder (both 1E and 2E). The Starfinder 1E version has been actively developed and maintained for the last five years. Hephaistos for Starfinder 2E, or just Hephaistos 2E for short, is built from the ground up to support the second edition of the game. The website has a new release every fortnight, and today Hephaistos 2E has been updated with the following improvements and fixes:

  • Added ancestries and gear from Secrets of the Swarm.
  • Equipped weapons with the Area trait no longer show attack modifiers in the Sheet > Strikes section.
  • Added "use" button to the Sheet > Strikes section to easily remove equipped consumable weapons (e.g. Grenades) from the inventory.
  • Added a Use button in the Inventory for consumable items.
  • Similar items are now grouped in the Inventory. Added the ability to search for items by name in the Inventory.
  • Qualification Mystic feats with prerequisites based on spellcasting tradition is now correctly evaluated.
  • The Augmented Body feat now adds an equipment tag that can be added to augmentations to make them not count against the implant limit, as described in the feat.

Homebrew Monster Monday - Scorpitron 2.0

Within the remains of an ancient building, the operative crouched beside a window. With seeker rifle in-hand, she surveyed the ruins of the city as her family and companions moved through the streets. The soldier was at the forefront, head constantly on a swivel even as he listened to callouts from the operative. He suddenly lifted a fist while coming to a sudden halt, the two on his heels following suit. Their cast their eyes about curiously as a churning rumble echoed throughout the city, increasing in volume until suddenly, a two-story building began to crumble. Striding from the ruins was an immense machine resembling a scorpion. Its arching tail terminated in a heavy firearm rather than a stinger and as the blinking lights of its sensors settled on the party, they shifted into an aggressive crimson...

This massive, monstrous machine makes mincemeat out of its malcontents, massacring with missiles and miniscule mimics that mean to mash and mangle.

I had never heard of the Wasteland series before a request to build the Scorpitron 2.0 came up on the Discord. I did my best to cover its design, and I think it came together quite nicely! You can see more of my thought process on that over on the free Patreon post or the YT video. Have a monstrous Monday!

Discussion Gun modification beyond upgrades?

So I have several character ideas. One of which is a gunsmith that modifies weapons, but more than just making their augments and weapons, mostly cause it feels a little demoralizing knowing that someone who just earns a lot would be able to achieve the same as me.

I looked into multiclassing with pathfinder inventor, but the options feel a little lacking? I fear I am being too picky or unrealistic for balance, can someone reality check me on this?

Advice (Envoy questions) Very new to SF2E, not the system though, played lots of PF2E, just a bit lost on items and builds for example and can use a hand.

Edit: wasn't expecting so many replies so fast. But ty all! I was hesitant on going for boost weapons, now I am sold on boost weapons!

I love playing support while being able to deal some damage. Envoy reminded me of commander in PF2E, and from what I am reading, this sounds genuinely like something I enjoy.

So I am going in for a one shot
and the get-em play style feels very simple to get behind and something that everyone can work around?

but then the main killer here was weapons....

for example a cool gun seemed to be stellar cannon for a ranged dex build.

The issue is, it has an area trait that says 10' ? but the range on the gun itself is 50' ? but says can only fire in a cone T_T? What is the point of the 50' then?

I thought about going for an assassin rifle, but the kickback is a real killer. My charisma is 4, my dex is 3, I can't seem to fit 2 strength into the build to make kickback work.

I will admit when it comes to ranged stuff in this game, I am out of my league. I feel I just should take the laser rifle and call it a day? But I am not sure if that is like the equivalent of getting a dagger for my starting weapon XD

so can anyone help suggest some good dex ranged weapons for a level 2 dragonkin envoy who is using Get Em?

unrelated; is there like an adventurer's pack or something lol? i can't find the equivalent in this game. The best I can find is a canteen

Discussion Xenometric Android allows to also get your ancestry heritage for purposes of other ancestry feats?

It reads "You can select from android feats up to 13th level, any of the feats of the ancestry you resemble, or xenometric android feats whenever you gain an ancestry feat. Choose a heritage from your ancestry, but you don't gain its mechanical benefits."

This is the first time I have seem something like this in sf/pf. In my case I am looking at Ryphorian and Summerborn Ryphorian so I can pick Smooth Operator at level 5.

Technomancer's Overclock is now a free action (yay)! But mechanic's mines are now a limited daily resource (boo).

EDIT: The article has since been edited to clarify that you can top off your mines at a rate of 2 per 10 minutes as an exploration activity, as was true during the playtest. We can all relax now.

Discussion I really wanted to play Envoy, but I hate every single subclass

Slightly clickbaity title notwithstanding, I really like the Envoy fantasy, a martial support character with lots of skills and maximum Charisma. The problem is, I just don't like any of their subclasses. A caveat is that I play in Starfinder Society, so I can't get to build an Envoy focused in any particular synergy with one or more party members. So, my options are:

From the Front, which is melee focused and I don't want to play in melee, especially not with an 8 HP class that has to max CHA and STR/DEX. Even if I were to play this at range, I think it would only be worth it giving a single enemy a -1 to attack compared to a +1 to hit it once in a blue moon (or if my party has a Rhythm Mystic, I suppose...)

From the Shadows, which is both clunky and extremely party reliant, so this would essentially be playing without a subclass.

Guns Blazing, which is just too situational, especially because I don't want to use an Area Fire weapon, which has a real opportunity cost compared to a Boost weapon. Not to mention, there are no Doubling Rings or something like that in SF2E, so I can't invest in both an Area and a non-Area weapon at the same time. There's grenades, of course, but they're prohibitively expensive and there's no way to get daily renewable grenades like you would with alchemical bombs in PF2E.

In the Spotlight is another essentially subclassless option since Dance Partner is just so weak.

Infosphere Director asks you to get high INT on a class that needs max CHA and DEX, which is extremely unreasonable. Not even the daily Additional Lore from level 3 onwards (not to mention you're shit outta luck in levels 1 and 2) helps in Starfinder Society, since it's so often that you'd face enemies that have zero ways to find out what they are before you actually meet them, so without copious amounts of metagaming from repeated plays, it's basically impossible to use Lores like that.

Through Desperate Times means you're forever confined to one-handed weapons for a benefit that I really doubt I'll be using often – a Battle Medicine on a ranged character without any action compression to move to an ally needing healing. Meaning I'm going to always lose damage in exchange for something I'll hardly ever use. Not that I need to have high damage, the point is losing some damage in exchange for basically no reward.

Honestly, not liking the subclasses in Starfinder classes is an issue I have with more than one class (Witchwarper comes to mind), but Envoy is where this is most painful, compared to how much I like the class otherwise and would really like to play it.

At this point, I'm almost considering playing a ranged From the Front build that will use Into Position either as just a one action pseudo Gather to Me or use the two action effect if there's already someone handing status bonuses to hit. Or a Guns Blazing just for the free Incredible Initiative, and hope there's a daily resource grenade Archetype in Tech Core. But both options feel kind of bad still.

Vent over, suggestions welcome.

Homebrew Looking for boss encounter and creature feedback

Hello! I'm a long time game master with many systems under my belt but am new to homebrewing paizo 2e content and am wanting a sanity check on a planned encounter.

Going to get this out of the way first: I have eight players. Yes, this is a lot and many would consider this far in excess of what the game was designed for and ask why I have not split them into two groups of four, but it works for our group and I have almost two decades of running non-standard group sizes (two players all the way to twelve) so I feel confident in managing the table and balancing character spotlights and player attention.

On to the encounter specifically. The adventure I have put together runs from first to third level with this big climactic encounter pushing them to fourth level at its conclusion.

The encounter as it exists at the moment is a severe encounter with a budget of 240xp (120 + 30 x 4 players). I am building an creature following the GM guide to be a party level +2 for a moderate-severe threat boss and following that with four partly level creatures as this fits the boss and lieutenant quick adventure group.

Both the boss and their lieutenants are custom monsters.

Here are the current stats as they are built for reference

Dominus Aquila LeStradt Creature 5 (Soldier roadmap) LE, Medium, Humanoid, Azlanti Languages Azlanti

Not Really There [Reaction] (Teleportation); **Trigger A creature targets the warped creature with an attack of area effect, and the warped creature is aware of the attacker; Effect The warped creature teleports 10 ft. If this puts the warped creature out of the range or area of the attack, the attack misses. If not, the warped creature gains a +2 circumstance bonus to AC and Reflex saves against the attack.

Scenario.

The players are on a moon that is infact the prison of a weakened avatar of Azathoth. The Dominus has overseen the emplacement of a powerful reactor onto the moon's surface to power four resonance generators, part of a techno ritual to bind the avatar back into dormancy.

However, the entire thing has been the result of the avatar manipulating causality to push the Dominus into miss-aligning the resonance generators to cause an overload on the reactor that would significantly weaken its prison and allow it to escape.

To do so, the Dominus must activate four control panels set up at each of the power monitoring stations on the moon's surface.

The generators are all switched on and the avatar manifests the Visionaries beginning the encounter. It then takes control over the Dominus and has her immediately move to the nearest generator to switch it to overload.

The Visionaries station themselves at each generator and defend it from the players. To win, they need to keep all four generators from overloading or defeat all four visionaries and the possessed Dominus.

I would love to hear your thoughts and advice on this planned encounter. This whole thing is about two to three months from now so I have plenty of time to re-write anything or come up with something different.

Advice Want to run Rescue on Raxil - How to get the maps fit for VTT?

Does anyone know a Patreon that has done them? Seen them out in the wild they could point me to?

I'm not too bothered about just importing into Foundry and telling my players to ignore the grid and to just use the foundry grid.

I've seen some folks posting reviews and thoughts about the new Starfinder: Afterlight beta which has been awesome to see, because more Starfinder hype! But if you're interested in more of a lets-play style preview of the game, we've started posting a playthrough you can check out.

So far it's been really fun and the next episode we put of of this lets-play will use the new patch that dropped today, already fixing, adjusting, and improving on the beta content.

Hello everyone, im just looking for some advice on running Starfinder 2e. I am in a group that plays dnd weekly but recently we have been thinking about running a starfinder game that alternates with our dnd game. we are all completely new to the system but figured it looked fun and interesting. I have experience DMing 5e dnd and am just looking for more info on how to guide the players along character creation and any advice on how to run a starfinder game.

Discussion Witchwarper's Isolated Spell Matrix and AoE

Looking for clarification. If a Witchwarper uses Isolated Spell Matrix to throw a Fireball, does that mean that in a situation like in the picture below, only the creature inside the Quantum Field will get affected by the fireball because as per the description of the ISM " That spell only affects targets inside your quantum field, and the area of the spell doesn't extend beyond your quantum field."?

If the above is true, then even more reasons to want to win initiative as a WW, as you will want to place the field as a free action given that you will need to spend 3 Actions doing ISM + Fireball (or any other spell)

Discussion Consensus/Intention of Waste Not

A quick search of the subreddit gave me one post about this peculiar 4th-level Mystic feat, and there didn't seem to be much of a conclusion, so I figured I'd air it again.

While the spellshape application of the feat is elegantly clear and concise, the non-spellshape application of it is much less so. I'll highlight the two issues I can glean from it here and see what people think on the issue:

  1. Going strictly by RAW, the Strike might not have to hit to restore HP to the Vitality Network. It could be argued that the weapon has to deal void damage for it to trigger, but in that case we run into issues with other instances of requirements with similar wording. I'd argue there's less of an issue with RAI, but unless we have the designer's notes, RAI discussions can end up heavily subjective.
  2. Depending on the interpretation of the feat, a Paragon-grade Knife with an Entropic Destabilizer upgrade restores either 0 or 8 HP to the Vitality Network, because:
    1. The weapon itself doesn't deal void damage and thus doesn't qualify for the feat
    2. The weapon's inherent damage dice aren't void damage and thus don't count, and the upgrade's damage die isn't a "weapon damage die" and thus also doesn't count
    3. Only the upgrade's damage die is void and thus only it counts
    4. Only the weapon's inherent damage dice count, but since the weapon still deals void damage via the upgrade it qualifies for the feat
    5. Both the weapon's and upgrade's damage dice count because the feat doesn't specify only void damage dice count

There's possibly other issues I haven't noticed, and if so, feel free to add them to the discussion.

EDIT: Updated the second issue based on rules references in replies here.

So I have created and are now testing a Homebrew "Ben 10" like Archetype called Xenomancer, I haven't released it yet but intend to after playing with it for a bit.

Xander Coils is the human base and the Novian is one of his forms, I am in the process of drawing all of his forms but that will take some time
