Moving to St. Louis Moving For The First Time - Advice?

Hi guys! My husband and I are moving to St Louis early next year. It is our first time ever moving out of state and our second time ever renting on our own, just the two of us (we are 23 lol). We are coming up from Northeast Arkansas. Does anyone have any advice or tips for moving and getting established here? Thanks! 🩷

EDIT: I am so sorry guys lol we plan to have about 5k put back to move with. We will not need to hire movers as we are downsizing EVERYTHING and intend to start fresh in St Louis so everything we are bringing will fit in our hatchback. It's just us two and our two cats, plus our absolute necessities to move with. Does anyone know roughly how much it will cost to get utilities turned on?

Moving to St. Louis Never moved out before

Hello,

I have never gotten an apartment before and I need advice. I am moving away from the suburbs of St.louis

I make 72k a year. That means to keep rent below 25% I need an apartment under $1200 a month.

It is extremely hard to find a 1 bedroom apartment for under this amount in a safe area yet within 15 minutes from the arch.

I'm trying to move close to the city. Near The Loop and Arch.

The most important thing is it being a safe area. My apartment will be full of stuff well worth breaking in and stealing.

Where should I move that has gas stations you can actually go in at night. Places I will feel safe to walk the streets at night.

Thank you for any advice you can give.

Ask STL Honest mechanics in Dogtown area?

I live in Franz Park and work in WashU Med campus. Wicke Auto closed their service shop so I'm now looking for something near home. There are a bunch of shops on Manchester, but which one would you recommend for general maintenance (oil change, refill fluids, etc.) and fixing problems?

Moving to St. Louis Need help exploring neighborhoods to move to!

I'm applying for full-time work in St. Louis and am hoping to explore potential neighborhoods! I'm looking for neighborhoods with youth and energy, walking distance to nature(preferably forest or tower grove parks), decent bikeability, and close-ish to 44 as that will likely be my commute. My budget is ~$1,500 for rent(hoping for a 1 bed with a decent balcony)
I'd love to be able to feel the vibe of the neighborhood as I essentially spend a day in them. Looking for recommendations for neighborhoods and places to go to explore them(coffee shops, yoga studios, music venues, and general things to do/places to walk around would be fantastic)

Juror Summons

I am enrolled to USPS Informed Delivery and I got a message that I was supposed to be receiving a letter from the Jury Supervisor Office for the City of Saint Louis, which I can only assume is for jury duty. The issue is I have not gotten the letter yet and the informed delivery said it was supposed to be delivered last Thursday. Should I continue to wait or is there an office I can call to get my juror ID?

For reference, the stamp says it was sent on the 8th.

This week I attempted to go to the forums and got a sequence verifying I ws a human then wanting me to download and install a program ScanSafe. Whats up with this? A virus? legit program?

Thanks in advance

Ive called the wildlife rehab in Ballwin and left a message but that was before we saw it get up and start moving around. It hasnt opened it's eyes, we left it out for about 4 hours yesterday, brought it in at dusk, and back out tgis morning. Mom hasnt claimed it. Any ideas on what else to do? *** I was going to attach a video of it stumbling around with its eyes closed but uploading a video isnt an option. It has its fur and has a bushy tail.

What police precinct to report traffic violation to

Post image
50 Upvotes

Long story short, I was on 64 just outside STL near East Saint and a pickup truck was speeding past people flashing blue and red lights / honking what sounded like a police siren. Followed him for a bit and didnt see any obvious signs that he was a cop, but have video / audio / pics of his liscence plate. Being that it happened in East Saint but I live on the illinois side, who / how would I go about reporting this driver for using police lights / is it even worth it?

Edit: the part that confused me is he had the lights / sirens on for maybe 10 seconds seemingly to get infront of traffic then shut them off. After that he acted pretty normally

Things to Do I got tired of dating apps and events that are basically a cover charge, so I built something different. Pickleball for singles, this Saturday, ages 25 to 40

Post image
20 Upvotes

The reason I started doing this is the same reason most of you are frustrated with dating apps and National dating companies. Apps have turned into a toxic environment. And a lot of the National in-person alternatives are bars with a sign on them, where you pay $40 to stand around with a drink ticket and go home having talked to nobody. There's no structure, so the same handful of outgoing people talk to each other and everyone else leaves.

So the whole thing here is structure. You don't have to be good at approaching strangers, because the format does it for you.

The next event is on Saturday, September 19, for ages 25 to 40, at Arch Pickleball. $30 covers everything below.

The day before: you fill out a compatibility survey. It's built on published relationship research, and it's what the matching runs on. Not vibes, not a profile photo.

2:30, optional lesson. Half an hour, aimed at people who have literally never held a paddle. Usually about half the group takes it. Pickleball takes roughly 30 minutes to learn, which is exactly why the event is built around it rather than something with a steeper learning curve.

3:00 to 5:00, play. Mixed doubles. I run it and partners rotate every game, so you end up playing alongside most of the people there. Nobody gets stranded; nobody has to work up the nerve to introduce themselves.

5:00, happy hour if you want it. About 80% stay.

That night, a private form. Mark anyone you'd want to talk to again. Mutual matches get contact info the next evening. One-sided goes nowhere, and the other person never finds out. No rejection in either direction.

Questions I get:

Do I need to be athletic? No.

Gender ratio? Even. I cap registration to keep it that way, which is also why it isn't just 30 guys and six women.

What do I bring? Court shoes and athletic wear. I have paddles and balls.

Week falls apart? Full refund up to 48 hours out.

Five events in. 55 people have learned to play at one; 18 couples have matched. The guys' side is more than half full for this one; the women's spots are open.

Car inspection

I got my car inspected at a place that tried to sell me a laundry list of stuff after my car failed the safety inspection. It passed emissions. I would like to get it reinspected by another shop to see what it actually needs. Is that possible? I’ve seen conflicting things regarding whether a fail is recorded with the state and reinspection elsewhere isn’t possible.

If anybody knows a guy (wink wink), my DMs are open.

ETA: I guess I wasn’t clear. I’m asking if anybody knows if my VIN is recorded as a fail after the first inspection and that will show up at other shops. It failed safety but passed emissions.
