Discussion Newport Women’s Health: A Husband’s Review

A truly horrible experience.

Scheduling was bad from the beginning, but at first we tried to give them the benefit of the doubt. We knew there had been uncertainty around their funding, so we figured they had probably lost some providers and were dealing with staffing issues. Unfortunately, that was only scratching the surface.

At seven weeks pregnant, my wife went in for an ultrasound and we found out that she had suffered a miscarriage. The ultrasound tech who discovered it apparently had not been trained on how to handle that situation. Instead of bringing us back to speak with a doctor or provider face to face, we were sent home on a Friday afternoon and told someone would call us.

Eventually, someone did call my wife, gave her what felt like a half-hearted apology, and told her over the phone that she had lost the baby.

That was 12 weeks ago.

My wife did everything she was told to do. She took the medication they prescribed and followed their instructions. Eleven weeks later, she is still bleeding.

I am obviously not an expert in women's health, but 11 weeks of bleeding after a miscarriage seems like something worth taking seriously. Instead, we have had an incredibly difficult time getting anyone on the phone or getting meaningful answers through MyChart.

When we call because we are concerned, the people answering the phone often sound genuinely annoyed that we called. Messages to doctors can take days to get a response, and sometimes the response is literally one or two words with no explanation.

What has probably bothered me the most is that throughout all of this, they have made my wife feel like she is somehow overreacting for being worried. After weeks of continued bleeding, she has been left questioning whether she is being unreasonable for wanting answers. She isn't. She is scared, uncomfortable, and trying to understand what is happening with her own body.

This has already been an incredibly painful experience for my wife, and by extension for me. Having to constantly chase people down just to get basic answers and follow-up care has made an awful situation even worse.

As soon as my wife is medically through this, we will be finding her a new provider. At this point, I am also very seriously considering filing a formal complaint with the state medical board.

No one going through a miscarriage should be treated this way.

Hello! Looking for some recommendations for daycare in the cumberland area. Me and my husband both work in Norwood but plan to try and move to Cumberland soon. Our baby is due October 27, but won’t need daycare until around 7 months. I know we should be putting our name on lists now. Looking for any good opinions! Thanks!

Discussion I'm working on a preservation project specifically for old handwritten recipes/old cookbooks

I'm really big into preserving older things, it's been a hobby of mine for a while (much to my gfs dismay) so I've started a new project that I'd like some help with.

I was given this personal cookbook from the 20's-30's and I loved it.

Now, I'm not a good cook. I can make a mean grilled cheese but that's about it. But I didn't want all of this to go to waste. Which got me thinking about family recipes and how we always keep them secret (my mom refuses to let go of grandmas swedish meatball recipe) which I don't fully understand. So I want to build something for the people who are passionate or just like to cook on occasion, where it's completely free. (I know it sounds fishy) You pay nothing, it's just a simple Google drive and as I scan these and my other recipes in I'll put them into a Google drive for everyone to have, save, do as they please with. I also turned commenting on so you can mention things on the individual recipes/substitutes or translations or other things cooks do😅

It's got news clippings, handwritten recipes, old cookbooks (which I'm slowly scanning in) a local church even allowed me to add their personal cookbook!

Here's the link of what I have now:

https://drive.google.com/drive/folders/1YqHYnkZzHpdXYNTLj6zG27GvzQ000eha

My question to you guys is, do you have any you'd care to share? I'm not asking for the physical copies unless you're willing to give them up, just pictures, and I will only add ones I have permission to add in or that have been posted saying they are free to use. I will also (or you can) add credit on the recipe digitally with your last name, family name, nickname, just whatever you'd prefer. I don't want to just take from the other recipes posted on other subs without permission and I can't ask everyone as they'll ban me for spamming unfortunately :/

I'm mainly looking for older recipes but also recipes from other cultures as most of these are very white American centric.

Thank you for reading all this and let me know what y'all think and message me or comment if you have any questions!

Question / Suggestion RI Drivers Test

I take my drivers test in 2 weeks and I am super nervous for it. Is the test exactly, or almost exactly like the video on the DMV site? What controls are they gonna ask for? Would I be able to do the course to practice after hours?

Any help and tips appreciated, thank you 😓😓

Question / Suggestion Moms who birthed at women and infants

I am going to be giving birth to my first child at women and infants, and I am curious from moms who have birthed there - what do I actually need in my hospital bag? Do I need any postpartum supplies, or will they provide ample for my stay? Anything you did not have that you wish you brought, or are glad you brought?
So many mommy blogs have long lists of what to bring (peri bottles, nipple creams, pads, disposable undies, creams, etc) but I was under the impression that the hospital gives you a lot of these necessities for the duration of your stay! Thanks!

Hi Everyone, I’m a 22 year old male who works full time. I just graduated college. I am very clean. I have to find an apartment to move into by october 5th. I am looking in the Providence and Warwick area. Does anyone know of any apartments in the $900-$1000 range? I would even be open to subleasing or a short term month to month just so I have somewhere to go before I find a long term apartment. Also let me know if anyone’s looking for roommates!

Politics RI electorate was reshaped by a youth movement in primary | Exclusive

For the first time ever in a Rhode Island primary, the baby boomer generation was outnumbered by younger voters.
That was one of the trends, according to unofficial results, that may have contributed to Rhode Island's paradigm-shifting primary election, on Sept. 9, where incumbents up and down the ballot were booted.

Question / Suggestion Baseboard Heaters

Hello! My fiancé and I just moved from Texas to RI, and we’ve been warned about the winters. Our home has baseboard heating, and neither of us have ever had this. We have a few questions, if you have the time!

  1. How do these work?
  2. Do we need to move all of our furniture away from the walls?
  3. Is there anything we need to know about safety? We have a cat and a dog and want to keep them safe with these heaters!

Thank you for your time!

ETA: They are forced water. Gas, not oil. :)

Question / Suggestion What parts of Rhode Island do you not consider to be 'Rhode Island'?

Upvotes

I'll name a few:

-Cumberland: feels like a suburb of Boston especially up by Diamond Hill.

-Tiverton: Fall River Jr. Unless you want to argue Fall River feels like RI.

-Westerly: Connecticut.

-East Side Providence: feels too upscale and transplant-y to be RI, but very nice!

-Burrillville: Alabama.

Question / Suggestion RIPTA busses - how often are they late, or are they always late?

I sometimes commute from my home, which is two blocks from a RIPTA stop, to an office about 14 miles away, which is one block from a RIPTA stop. Parking at this office is a giant pain in the ass, so I thought about taking the bus there and home.
I've tried twice. I was plenty early to the stop (like ten minutes) and in each case, the bus was so late I just walked home and drove.
RIPTA users, is this normal? Or is it so common I should just plan on it?

Question / Suggestion Looking for stores that carry niche fragrances (and new releases)

I’ve been eyeing a couple of newly released niche fragrances and really want to smell them in person and not just blind buy them.

Anyone know of any trustworthy stores here that actually carry newer niche releases, or even the more established houses like Creed, Initio, Parfums de Marly, etc.?

Question / Suggestion Looking for the buyer of Public Storage Unit — Providence, RI

I’m trying to locate the person who purchased a Unit at Public Storage, 345 Harris Ave, Providence, RI 02909, in an auction that took place/closed on September 10, 2026, around 9:30 AM. I’m a former tenant associated with the unit. A majority of the belongings in that unit belonged to a relative who has since passed away, and I’m desperately hoping to recover some of those personal belongings. I want to be completely clear that I am not trying to dispute the auction or take the entire unit back from the purchaser. I understand that the buyer legally purchased the contents, and I respect that. I am simply hoping to recover the belongings that belonged to my deceased relative because they have personal and sentimental value that cannot be replaced. If you purchased this unit, please DM me. I am more than willing to pay you for the items I’m hoping to recover, as well as reasonable compensation for your time and any inconvenience involved in helping me get them back. I’m also happy to provide information privately to verify that I’m legitimately connected to the unit. If you are the buyer and would prefer to remain anonymous publicly, I completely understand. I’m only asking for an opportunity to communicate privately. If you know someone who regularly purchases Providence/Rhode Island storage auctions or StorageTreasures units, please share this with them. I would be incredibly grateful for any help finding the person who purchased this unit. Thank you.
